Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

Exactly, yet there aren't "peanut free" rooms at Disney. People with peanut allergies ask for a deep clean and hope for the best (and yes the smallest bits of peanuts can set off the allergy). A person with dog allergies still have 20 resorts to chose from without large worry about dog dander- a person with other allergies (peanut, bees, et al.) don't have the luxury of some many options yet we aren't over run with stories of major allergy outbreaks. Take precautions ( and stop the sky is falling hyperbole) and there won't be problems.

The majority of people with peanut allergies still have to ingest peanuts in order to react to them. Yes, some will break out from touch alone, but even then it's usually a limited reaction but it ranges widely. Peanut oils would also generally not be everywhere in a room. While it could fall on the floor it's likely more on hard surfaces which can be washed down (as we do at every hotel we stay at for our food allergic kids). I do know plenty of people who have had food allergy reactions at Disney and some to unknown sources. And while Benedryl may be great for stopping a hives rash on your arms it's not quite as helpful for coughing, sneezing, burning eyes, etc. And not without taking it continually if we are talking daily exposure. I don't know about you but being drugged up on Benedryl for the duration of vacation doesn't sound like fun.

And while you insist that we "stop the sky is falling hyperbole" you offer up that there are 20 other resorts completely ignoring again that larger families don't fit in many of those resorts and that their options for an affordable onsite resort have now been drastically reduced if they need to avoid dogs.

In addition to empathizing with those of you with allergies, phobias, and @DG25, do you know who I feel sorry for? The CMs. They are going to be hit from both sides-- with complaints about pets/owners not following the rules, and complaints from the owners who may miss a FP+, show, or ADR if they get called back to deal with their pet. They just can't win.

As for those who are listing other pet-friendly resorts, such as Stowe, etc... are these the types of resorts where guests are away from their room for up to 16 hours a day? I think not. When I visit those types of resorts, I am often hanging out enjoying the resort amenities and able to return to my room more often; or doing shorter excursions. Many people at WDW are away from the resorts most of the day, for many days of the vacation. Like I said, I hope that those people are not the ones bringing their dog.

It was this exact problem that prompted us to buy into DVC. We needed connecting rooms guaranteed due to the ages of our kids.

The cheaper deluxes (AKL, WL) for families of 4 are not cheaper for 5 at all. They are more expensive than YC, BC, BW etc.

That leaves suites at ASM ($$$) or AoA ($$$$$) or mods. We prefer CBR, but I know many families of 5 that love PoR. I don’t get why they chose POR, which has such an enthusiastic following. Why in the world not Coronado (a convention resort like YC I believe)?

Someone mentioned the kennels were across from the POR property. I wonder if that was part of it.

The hysteria over this is kind of amusing. You'd think they just announced that every guest at every Disney hotel is required to bring a dog with them going forward. All the Universal hotels allow dogs. I've stayed at several of them and never even seen a dog or heard anyone complain about a dog. Let's wait and see how this gets implemented before proclaiming the sky is falling because dogs will be allowed at like 5% of the Disney hotel rooms.

May have to do with the size of the resorts (you don't see CA allowing dogs yet). With the sheer amount of resorts at WDW (20+ at WDW vs 7 at DLP and only three at DLA) the corporation may feel it's a good place for a trial run before rolling the dog policies elsewhere. Also county laws may be different in France vs the US

Dogs are allowed in Paris hotels. It is a Disney Parks Health and Safety policy. DLP currently are not willing to endanger their customers with their current health and safety policy. WDW after 46 years don't care anymore.

Wait, WHAT?!? The BEST they can do? Excuse me Disney, you're the one that changed your policy without telling anyone. You WILL give me a dog-free room.

I know, right? I'm going to start with asking the TA and the studio about when they're informing the group, since my sampling of folks yesterday indicated that the policy change is not widely known in our travel group. I think people with more serious issues should have as much time as possible to consider their options, since when we booked this wasn't the policy!

That is probably due to the demographics (seniors) In Fl. Florida has become a major retirement state, new construction is going up like crazy! Sadly, we are losing a lot of green space. I live in a gated community and the HOA is constantly sending out letters about people not cleaning up after their dogs. There are many older dog owners here. People even "walk" their dog while driving a golf cart.
I have been wondering if this was a regional or area thing, in general. We have said for a few years now that we were surprised that WDW has not tapped into the pet-friendly market. I’m not in FL, but in my area, no one I know either really well or casually has a problem with pet-friendly hotels even if they don’t plan to bring their dogs. Until this thread, I didn’t realize that such a large portion of the population was so allergic or phobic of dogs. Cats I knew. I realize that I do not know enough ppl to be representative of the general population, but I have never known anyone in my life (and I’m almost 40) who was allergic to or phobic of dogs. I obviously knew they existed but assumed it was rare. I was generally shocked that so many ppl were outraged by this & surprised to see that so many ppl are allergic or phobic.

Yes, you are correct. The difference to me is that service dogs are an uncommon occurrence. The new policy increases the number of dogs that will be there and increases the odds of all types of incidents beyond simply aggravating allergies.

Service dogs are also not left in the room all day and are likely there to sleep and with their owners the rest of the time. Still exposure, but not as much.

Yeah see I personally think that one bites when you're limited off the bat simply because of funds and traveling party sizes. I don't expect at all for more variety of accommodations to be dirt cheap but I do still wish it was more economical. We have no idea when we will get back to WDW but if the next time we go we have a child we would love for my mom to come with us (she hasn't been to WDW for well over 25 years) so that leaves a ?? for us since it would be 3 adults and at least 1 child if we choose to stay onsite again.

Just based off the types I know (as others have mentioned too) they were selecting one from each category but as for why they chose the ones they did is beyond my understanding. My guess is they might have looked at the locations in relations to certain characteristics. I can't say with utter confidence here but I feel like the other values (All-Stars and POP) are usually fairly booked, could it be they were selecting AOA for that reason rather than selecting POP or All-Stars? I'm not sure. Another poster on another thread mentioned YC was without a DVC attached to it so they thought that might be the reason YC was chosen over another Deluxe. As for the Moderate choice it could be Dis703 mentioned as that does make sense.

Did they delete the Disney Parks Blog post? I don't see it anymore. I posted a comment (negative) this morning and wanted to see if it survived moderation. But I cannot find the post anymore.
It seems they took that blog post down. I just checked as well and it’s gone along with my comment.

I'm willing to bet that even if there are designated dog rooms at these resorts, it doesn't mean people without dogs won't be placed near them or in one after a dog leaves. There is no way WDW is taking whole blocks of rooms or buildings out of inventory on the off chance someone with a dog will book the room. This is going to turn into one of those "not guaranteed" requests or they'll make a separate "dog free" room category and charge more for it.

I was pretty sure this was the case & that Paris hadn’t changed THAT much in the last 20 years.

One of my family members has a dog...a terrier. Anytime anyone comes in the door, she jumps up and down and barks like mad. I can't tell you how much I detest going to their house wearing shorts; I always come out of there with mega scratches down both of my legs. Here's the thing...I think it's annoying. The dog's owners think it's adorable: "Oh, look, she's so excited to see you!" They actually get her all wound up anytime someone new enters: "Look who's here! Look who's here! Go say HI!"

They also walk her on a very long leash so she can say "HI" to everyone. (Or, should I say, the dog walks them). This dog also snaps at other dogs when they get anywhere near her.

These family members take this dog everywhere, and stay in hotels with her all the time.

Here's the reason I tell this story...these people think they are the best dog owners in the world and that their dog is just so well behaved.

These are the type of people I fear running into at Disney.
