Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

I have not read all 124 pages but I have a couple of questions of my own. How is MCO airport going to adjust to people bringing pets on airplanes? I can't recall too many areas to accommodate Fido after a long flight. Then there is the issue of transportation to the resorts. Are pets going to be allowed on Magic Express? Then there could be the discrimination angle of non-tradition "pets". Anybody for, oh, pot belly pigs, reptiles, hamsters, rabbits, etc.... Give some people and inch and they will take a mile.

I really don't think you're going to see an increase in people flying into MCO with pets and therefore not a lot of dogs on DME. It's just not a good way to travel with animals. Most people bringing a dog would be driving to WDW.

I can see not wanting to post here but to think she will be mistreated by guests seems a bit dramatic. What does she possibly think they will do to her? The only thing she has to worry about is if her dogs barks, her dog goes to the bathroom anywhere but the relief stations, if Disney puts allergic guests in rooms by her ......... and all of that will be reported to the front desk. If it's her problem aka dogs behavior she will be contacted and if it's Disney's problem aka putting non-dog guests next to her, Disney must fix it.
So then your saying that the people on this thread are just saying those things to be dramatic? I hope your right. Wouldn't want to see someone trying to follow me around or have a dog taken away because they know there's a dog in a specific room.

She might also have a problem if her dog attacks someone. If that happens, I am sure she will feel mistreated by fellow guests and Disney. Because there is no way I would allow an animal attack me or my family and not report it.

I have read through practically all this thread, I haven't seen those posts you speak of so it doesn't seem to be rampant. I would imagine someone was just venting .... and maybe overstating. Maybe .... they see a dog that poops and pees by their room, they might take a picture to show the front desk, they may watch what room they go back into so they can report an accurate room number. Do I think people will waste their own vacation following others around the resort ........ no. But when you call the front desk to say "Fido keeps pooping in front of my room" the first thing the desk will say is "What kind of dog is it and do you know which room they are staying in?" Otherwise it's all pointless.

Well, yes that is a given ........... but I think I'm thinking more in terms of what is most likely to be the ongoing every day issues with this.

I agree, and I can assure concerned dog owners that I will not follow them around the resort. If I happen to notice a violation of Disney's dog policy I'll report it, and as I have written before I would think it prudent for anyone bringing a dog to have contingency plans in case they are required by Disney to immediately leave the resort due to any violations

I

I haven't seen the size policy change but would not be surprised if it did. Same for breed restrictions.

I wonder if you and I cancel each other out LOL? We are also stockholders and DVC members ( with greyhounds lol) and are against the policy and hoping it fails.
Also dvc member and stockholder here......and one of those that hopes policy fails. Adore my two Pembroke welsh corgis but trust me between the barking if anyone walks past our house, and insane amount of shedding, no one wants any part of them on vacation.

I wonder how many people in this thread who's world is falling apart have actually stayed at a dog friendly hotel and not realized it?

Oh the horror!
Have stayed at plenty of dog friendly hotels over the years all over the world. Doesn’t change my opinion that I don’t want to vacation at resorts with other peoples dogs, or my own at WDW.

If I suddenly had a new freedom, but encountered people who were, at the same time, suddenly limited and upset by it, I'd be cautious about voicing it. ...Not because the thread belongs to any opinion more than another, but simply out of sensitivity and compassion.

Also, there have been many comments by people happy with this development not just saying how pleased they are for themselves, but criticising people who aren't happy, by accusing them of over-reacting and having no humor etc.. Anyone who genuinely understands (and isn't just speculating) what it means to be on the losing side of this development understands why it's not funny. You really can't know if another person is over-reacting if you haven't lived and aren't living their experience. So, I understand people being frustrated and upset by being dismissed/undermined that way. (ETA: There have been a couple of new such comments just while I was writing this.)

Also, funnily enough, I didn't comment on another doggy thread because I was put off by comments there about people over here being upset by difficulties they're faced with in light of this new bonus for others. I left them to it and hopped back here. On that basis, maybe there's an argument for separate threads (tables at the bar!). Just while we're talking about this, though. We can all karaoke together later! :dance3:

...In other words, attacks are firing both ways. :( This is a contentious issue, for sure.

I have a question are all Universal Hotels pet friendly? Or are there a few that aren't pet friendly?

Oh the horror!

And has been pointed out many times on this thread, WDW is different. If owners wish to spend all day tending to their pets in their WDW resort room, great.
But if they are planning to enjoy time in one of four parks it's going to take them longer than 30 minutes to return if their animal is crying, barking or scratching.
Not all pets are going to enjoy hours alone in a small, unfamiliar hotel room.

I do understand your point but she's not saying she's going to have her dog do any of those things. What I've read on this thread are people telling others to follow them with your phones (stalking) and report dogs as abandoned if you hear them bark. Both of those are scarey and unwelcoming to someone who doesn't really know you personally or what you are capable of doing.

Seriously. People need to think about the implications of what they're suggesting.

What has anyone said other than that they will indeed report dogs whose owners aren't following the rules? I have been reading the majority of this thread and haven't seen anyone making any inappropriate suggestions. Most of us opposing this don't want to be around anyone's dog while on vacation so I doubt they are going to be following anyone around. But yes if they are in places they shouldn't be or not cleaning up after their dog, not keeping their dog from barking excessively in the room, etc. I would hope people will report it. What's so dramatic about that?

...much as one side is upset and concerned for health & safety & disturbance of their family's vacation, therefore venting ........ another side is dismissive and finding humor in some of these valid concerns. This is of concern because if you can't understand the worries or potential side effects, there's a chance you will be part of the problem.

Nicely summarised.

Hopefully, Disney won't presume and will be more understanding and helpful. At the moment, there seem to be a mix of experiences in this respect.

I also agree this discussion can't go on forever! o_O ...But at least people who are negatively impacted can stop by and know they're not on their own. I have appreciated that.

Fingers crossed for the future.

The comments on this thread are some of the most disgusting, alarmist, entitled BS I've ever seen. Shame on you people.
Interesting thought. I wonder which side of the argument you on on.

Hard to imagine that you are talking about those that don't want dogs left in a resort room for hours on end. I mean, how horrible that will be for any animal. As I glance over at my precious dog, I can't imagine how sad he would be after traveling with us, to just be forgotten while we were at the parks.

So maybe you are talking about the people that think it is a good idea to have dogs left at the resort for up to 7 hours.

I have a question are all Universal Hotels pet friendly? Or are there a few that aren't pet friendly?

Funny you ask...I was just reading an Undercover Tourist article about it - it says that they are all pet friendly except Cabana Bay. It also reiterates their policy that dogs may not be left unattended in the hotel rooms.

"You should be aware, though, that you cannot leave your pets unattended in your room while you spend the day at the parks...There are kennels located on-property for $15 per pet, per day. You can't reserve a spot; the kennels operate on a first-come, first-served basis. We chatted with the kennel, and they say that they rarely fill up. Still, if you're visiting over a busy weekend or holiday, we suggest getting there right as they open at 8 a.m every day! You must also return once during the day to take your furry friend for a walk; you're welcome to leave blankets, toys or any other comforting objects with your pet to make them feel at home!"

I mention this again as it's so different from Disney's current policy of 7 hours. I know a lot of people may not choose to do that, but it's still their stated policy. I posted the question about people's experiences at Universal regarding that particular rule but haven't seen any feedback. I was going to hop to the Universal forum at some point to see if I could find out more...

ETA: I do think it is strange that they require a pet to be supervised at all times in the hotel but you can't book the kennel ahead of time? That could put someone in a pickle...

I completely disagree .... although I'm not sure which side of the issue you are referring to ..... much as one side is upset and concerned for health & safety & disturbance of their family's vacation, therefore venting ........ another side is dismissive and finding humor in some of these valid concerns. This is of concern because if you can't understand the worries or potential side effects, there's a chance you will be part of the problem.

It's kind of amazing what you just did there. You made the people against the new policy rational and thought out and the people for it dismissive, sarcastic, and uncaring. The truth is there has been all of that on all sides.

Well to be fair I did read on the other thread about a family who is planning their trip with their dogs and didn't want to post here because she's afraid of the backlash she will get. She is also concerned that her family and her pets will be mistreated by other guests while they're enjoying their vacation. I truly hope no one treats any family harshly if they choose to bring a pet.

How a family who brings a dog will be treated will most likely depend on how they and their dog behave. If they keep their dog in the room, walk to dog areas directly, stay far away from public areas and allow no barking they will be treated well. But if they linger in the lobby or other public areas, allow their dog to bark (not for 30 minutes, no barking at all!), or in anyway engage the dog with me and my girls, they will be treated harshly.

To be fair, that’s WDW’s policy. We don’t know that anyone plans to or thinks it’s a good idea to leave their pet for 7 hours. If I decided I needed to bring my dog for some reason, I would adjust my touring style so as not to do this just like anyone else who may have to adjust theirs if they had another reason to go back to the resort often.
