Time to rant...

Funny how the only comments are on waits for buses. No one mentions when they walk up and have no wait on a bus. Are you all saying that you've never had no wait on a bus, ever? That you've never had the luck to walk up the same time a bus to the park you are going to did? I know we sure have. Have we waited? Sure. Have we waited more than 20 min? Maybe a hand full of times. Way less than we've waited less than 20 min.

Driving would suck way more. That would mean no beer for DH. Because he won't drink even 1 beer all day and drive. Period. Not an hour later and not 5 hours later. It's how he is. Not to mention construction and traffic around Disney is not very relaxing or fun to deal with while on vacation. We deal with both of those every day at home. Who wants to have to drive around in that on vacation? I know we don't. We will utilize Uber when the bus doesn't suit us, like going Resort to Resort or if we walk up and think the bus wait time doesn't fit our needs. But those are not the norms. It's a nice fall back though. And no trams, which I think are worse than any bus ever. I think back to when we used to drive, before we started to fly to Disney and I tell you what I hated the most, the parking lot trams. Give me a 40 min wait on a bus over a tram.

At our last stay at the Poly, we waited 40 minutes for a bus to HS.

The wait to come back to the resort, 40 minutes.

We decided then that we were done with on site stays. Spent way too much on that room.

Just got back from our off site stay. Spent a third of the price, and had 10 times the fun.

It was worth the savings to just drive ourselves and control our own destiny.

I now see the bus transportation as a downside to staying onsite, vs a perk.

The buses aren't a perk. They're a necessity. Everything is very spread out.

I went to a huge state school where the different areas were all spread out and I had to ride buses all day between classes and then back to my dorm. It's kind of like that. Not a perk!

Same here. Our good/reasonable/expected bus waits over the years far outnumber our bad/unreasonable ones.

After my last bus experience I will never take one again. Not only was the wait crazy long the bus was absolutely freezing! This was from Disney Springs to AK. The only day we took busses. We took two more that day. Waits bad but not terrible. However all busses were so cold I was almost crying and it took hours before I could shake the chill.
I HATE the temp on the buses. It's always freezing. I always bring a light hoodie because I get cold in the buses, rides, restaurants. Last time we sat in the back of the bus and it was all warm and toasty. The seats were even warm. Whatever machinery is under there warmed it up. Loved it.

After our recent trip a couple weeks ago we are either going to make sure we are at a resort that minimizes the need for a bus or rent a car. For whatever reason, the waits at Beach Club were awful, a couple times there was no posted expected arrival time on the monitor for 20-30 minutes for a bus to MK. The worst part is you wait for 30-45 minutes for a bus, and then right when it arrives, without fail there's always a big group that shows up at the bus stop and jumps on first since everyone else has been sitting and waiting.

You can stay onsite and rent a car. Won't lessen the price though. But if it's about the money that's a different issue.

So how long was the travel time to and from the parks to your resort?

I had this experience on my last trip, though I do not remember it from previous ones. It was okay when the bus was packed at the end of the night, but when it was not so crowded it was really unpleasantly cold.

That's ridiculous. But how do you know who got there first if you're sitting? How do you keep the order? I'd rather stand and wait and ensure my place in line. Pop has the corrals and I prefer that.

Since we are complaining, I hate when there's standing room only and a family with a stroller and babies gets on. Then my husband feels compelled to give up his seat because he's watching them try to balance and hold a baby. My husband has a bad ankle and the standing still on it is torture for him sometimes. (It doesn't hurt as much walking as it does just standing there putting weight on it.) We wait for a bus to sit if his ankle is acting up. But there's no way he's going to stay seated while a mom stands up with a baby. I say wait for the next bus if you have babies. It's not fair to the other people who got seats first.

EDITED TO ADD:
Okay, I get that this isn’t a popular opinion here. No offense meant. We agreed to disagree. LOL.

1- If a bus pulled up same time I got there id consider that hitting the lottery... Ive waited over 30 mins for a bus way more than one has showed up when I did... and its not even close...
2- You never have to wait more than 5 mins for a tram... so I find it hard to imagine you would rather wait 40 mins than 5. If thats the case then we have different vacation priorities as yours is not getting in the park as quickly as possible.

I wonder how the new gondola system will be. I just know I'd hate to get stuck on one of those.

I'm can't see it eliminating a need for buses though.

Wait... so you want the family with a baby to wait another 20+ mins just so you dont have to stand for the ride... Lol

I complain about wait times, but 10 times out of 10 I am standing up for a baby and a parent if I am physically able to at all.

I dont like the full buses any more than the next person, but I know how much I hate getting left behind...

It took an hour and 45 minutes for us to see a bus to pop at MK back in September. I was livid, this was before fireworks even started. I went straight to the front desk and demanded a late checkout for the next day. a manager was very apologetic and granted a 1 pm checkout. I hope you complained, they can't fix a problem unless you let them know.

I'll still do the buses because I don't want to drive. No matter how long it took, I would prefer not to drive. But if I had to wait 40 minutes for a bus every time, I would not like it. Fortunately I have waited that long very few times.

I can't say I've ever heard a call for people with babies to wait for another bus so someone doesn't have to offer their seat and it's not fair. I think fairness doesn't really enter into it for the person who offers their seat. I'm guessing the PP's husband isn't thinking about how unfair it is when he offers his seat to someone he believes needs it more than he does.

The longest i ever waited for a bus was probably about 45 min.. happened once.. in the 100s of times i have taken the bus. It was a middle of the day, run back to the resort to change shoes occurrence. We have good luck with buses but we do drive to the parks when we know we are staying till close.. riding the buses back to the resort after the park closes is a bad idea.. just sayin..

Yes, pretty much. (Although we rarely wait 20 minutes.) If someone knows it's standing room only and chooses to get on anyway, then they should stand. We would wait for another bus if my husband feels he needs to sit because of his ankle.

I hate standing on buses. All the turns etc and trying to balance or hold on where there isn't always a great place to hold on. The straps don't support you. You pretty much swing around on them. I'm short. LOL. So yes, I prefer to sit if I can.
