I love credit cards so much!

DH and I got the CSR last year when first launched. I plan on having us both keep them as I look at the fee as the $195 since the travel credit and I also like the increased insurance for car rentals (no idea why sharing that part...I think I am justifying keeping both). At any rate, this is a stupid question. If you are keeping the card is there any reason to use the travel credit now that it has reset before the end of the year? If I use it now it won’t reset again in January right?

I cannot really come up with a good reason to keep both. Maybe somebody else can? If you both want to carry one just pay the $75 for an AU and save $120... I'd downgrade one to a freedom or something...you can transfer points between spouses so having 2 separate accounts just seems like wasted money to me.

Does anybody else see this differently and if so, why?

DH has CSR & CSP. I need to pc one of them. In the past year, earned 20k points from CSR. Not much on CSP since CSR was a bigger focus. Planning to use travel credit as soon as it resets this month. While I like CSR, the $450 is kinda tough right now. Already have 2018 vacations planned/paid for (travel credit will be the last bit to pay) so next thing I'd use UR for would be in 2019. If I pc CSR to FU, and keep CSP, I can pc back to CSR in 2019 right?

Current DP says you can do so. but i honestly think its a really bad loophole for people to abuse so im not sure how long that would last. If you have a CFU or CF, already, perhaps go to a CS? Im sure PC between the same family line would be easier.

I agree with you. We downgraded my husband's card to a Freedom. We travel together anyway and just use my CSR to pay. The only thing we lose out on is the occasional 3% on restaurants when he is out by himself. Its not enough of a loss to justify an extra $195/year though - or even the $75 for an AU card.

I would secure message Chase and ask. If they say you can you can keep that message if they don’t let you do it in a year.

@kmc8826 i also would only keep one card. If keeping the card, there is no rush to use the travel credit. You have a year basically.

Okay again I am being dumb no doubt. I agree it makes sense to cancel it...but does anyone know if I wait and cancel it in March (after I organically use the travel credit on car rentals) will I get refunded any partial fee? Or is it best to cancel as soon as possible? No travel until end of January but I guess I could buy a Delta gift card now.

We are keeping dh’s csr and I just requested a replacement card for him and I’ll use that one. I carry and use his cip and no one ever says anything.

So if you request a replacement card, they don't deactivate the old one?

I haven't decided on our 2 CSRs. The bonus points from the Chase pay deals at Walmart and Best Buy shrink the difference(7250 points...worth approx 120-130 on SW). Also, isn't the fee $450...less the $300 travel credit = $150? You guys always help me with my fuzzy math...I seem to always miss something!

Yeah your math sounds right. I just went with what the OP said lol. Like any true long time churner I actually have no CSR because I was over 5/24 when it was introduced, haha.

For Google Express - I ordered enough items from Target to push me over $50 to trigger the amex offer. Well, Target could not fulfill a couple of the items so my total was only $40. No amex credit. Then I didn't like one of the Target items...but you can't just return to the store...they want you to pay to ship it back to them. Such a pain.

This is bad news because I also have a Target item to return. My Target is actually pretty good about returns - I once had a Target.com order that they couldn't find in their system and they let me return the item for a gift card. I'm hoping that will be the case with this item too.

I also did this after @wendow posted about it awhile back. No issues. I paid the AF on mine on Nov 1st and plan to use my 2018 credit then downgrade to a freedom. Like others, most of our dining and travel spending is done together so we can't justify two cards.

Hold on now. Some of the long time churners that were LOL/24 when the CSR came out, like me and DH, were able to get it. There were two ways, a targeted in branch offer or becoming a CPC. I had read a number of DPs on Reddit and the comments section of various bloggers and there were people at 20/24 with a targeted in branch offer and got approved. We went the CPC route since neither of us had a targeted in branch offer for the CSR which is no longer an option.

Yeah I know some found ways around it, glad you guys did! We were never targeted unfortunately. I just kinda like to think of pre-CSR churners and post-CSR churners, not that either one is better - it's just an interesting demarcation point in the history of the hobby.

Yes, it is an interesting point. I wish I had been doing this when the mint was still an option for MS. I'm glad too but I don't foresee another card on the horizon that would cause quite the same stir.

I was on the google express website today and their policy for Target appears to be updated since I ordered. Maybe lots of people complained?? They say they now have 'free returns' and you can print a prepaid label so they still want you to ship the return back but they cover the shipping.

Your math is right :) I consider the AF on the CSR to be $150.

Tonight I"m going to apply for the Chase Marriott and at the same time Chase Freedom Unlimited. Is there a special way to do this that won't trigger a rejection? Two separate browsers at the same time? I am currently at 4/24.

Thanks!
