I do not, and will not, do Facebook.
I have needed to make a contact with somebody who only seemed to have Facebook contact, only ONCE... I used another person's facebook account.

Here is why....
Not only do I totally NOT need all of everyone's private social drama...
Not only do I want to maintain my own privacy....
Get this..... Facebook is tracking us, even if we do not have an account and have never used Facebook before.
So, doesn't matter.... they can be tracking me anyhow.

I have always had a problem with Facebook... Always had a problem with this....

"Thus, the survey reveals that even if you have never entered the Facebook domain, Facebook is still able to follow your browsing behavior without you knowing it, let alone, without you wanting it, thanks to these invisible pixels that Facebook has placed on more than 10,000 other sites."

The other day DH & some of his coworkers were talking about something at work (I can't remember what). DH's phone was clipped to his belt w/ all his apps (including Facebook) closed.

Whatever they were talking about showed up later as an ad on Facebook.

When people still talk about Facebook as something "new" to fear, I giggle a little, because the tech world has moved so far beyond facebook that my teen/tween kids barely even know what it is. To them, FB is like me talking about cordless telephones. Useful once when there was no better option, but not really that relevant anymore.

Same thing happened to me. I was reminiscing about my original OBGYN who stopped delivering babies between my first and second to my husband. My phone was sitting beside me. I opened it up and went to review something and "Would you like to review Dr. Soandso's office?" Came up. It creeped me out.

Pretty much any website/app does the same thing anymore (including this one). Doesn’t bother me but if t does bother you, you need to stop posting online all together.

To make it even more fun they also listen in. I was talking to my realtor while we were house hunting the other day and mentioned the only item of furniture we still need it a couch. I have never searched online for a couch or gone onto a furniture store website to look at them but within an hour of the conversation both Facebook and google were showing me ads for couches.

So don’t use any search engines or visit any web sites, because they are tracking you too.

Big Data and data scientists will find you. They already know what you like to buy and your browsing habits.

To keep the article in at least some sort of context at least when it comes to legal trouble and the article you linked, it's about the European courts not the U.S. courts.

Um, okay. Thanks for sharing?

And???

Not news. Been happening almost as long as there's been internet. Before that it was the white pages of the phone book...

If anyone wants to find me they will. Not worried abt it at all.

In fact, if they do find me they'll run the other way. I lead a boring, busy mom life.

Like just about anything, Facebook can be good or bad depending on several different things. Facebook has its uses.

And Facebook tracking is no worse than anything else that tracks you & your movements - internet surfing & browsing, the GPS on your car, every time you swipe your debit or credit card, walking down the street in view of hidden cameras, drone/satellite footage, etc. I think even grocery stores track your purchases & will tailor coupons to what you've purchased.

I just can't invest that much worry or be all that bothered by it.

But I know some people are very persnickety & paranoid about stuff like that.

My brother-in-law is like that & weird about a lot of things most of us just find common-place. He's the type that won't include a home address on their checks. Over Christmas, though, I found out that he & my sister have Amazon's Alexa in their house which I find just hilarious!

Kids and their new fangled gadgets...the world is going to he## in a hand basket...get off my lawn...glad I'm old and won't see what today's kids face in the future...
