I love credit cards so much!

Whew! Finally posting here after some time. This thread seriously moves so fast - I barely have time to read it, much less reply! I don't know how you all do it!

As of this morning, I was at 3/24, 0/12 (unless Chase business cards count?) and finally past the 24 month bonus threshold for both personal SW cards. I applied for and was instantly approved for both the SW Plus and Premier! Thanks @Lain for your step-by-step on the two-in-one-day Chase application process: I love credit cards so much! . It was nice to have that to keep my head on track.

I'd like to have one of the cards expedited, but I also am not looking to draw attention to the fact that I just applied for both. Do I have any reason to be concerned? If not, what number do I call?

On a separate note, as some of you know (@wendow), I have a brother who has special needs (Down syndrome and autism). Even more than Disney, he adores the Wiggles. They announced last week that they were touring America, but only CA and a couple cities in New England. We're in the midwest, but we decided we'd try to get tickets to see them anyway. We ended up getting front-row tickets to their San Diego show (!!!!), so I'm now planning a trip to San Diego (+ possibly a few days in Anaheim?) for early June. My parents are both somewhat open to getting cards - they can meet minimum spend easily, and they have high credit scores. They're averse to opening new cards, however, unless they can see a tangible way that the points will immediately benefit them. I've begun thinking that if they both were to open CIPs, we could use those UR points to purchase Disneyland tickets (through my CSR). Based on what I've read here, the UR Cruise/Tour department should be able to book just Disneyland tickets (without a hotel reservation), correct?

Off to DisChurners I go to try to post my support links for the first time!

Congratulations on the two new SW cards! I love that churning will let you do something really special for your brother and possibly parents too!

Oh GREAT - the "holier than thou" churners are after me again on r/churning, lol.

I shared that post where I said I put my AMEX Everyday link on Facebook and a couple friends expressed interest (I had said that here a couple days ago). Apparently I'm a bad person for attempting to give my friends unsolicited advice...Oh and apparently I'm supposed to "vet" people before telling them anything about what I do in this hobby...and also a bunch of my friends will apparently be coming back to me in 6 months blaming me for being deep in credit card debt because I posted that...Oh and to top it off, even when friends and family ask for advice, I should probably just refrain.

I just need to shrug it off but geez, apparently I'm a bad person because I might "cause" somebody else to make a poor decision. Personal responsibility people...personal responsibility...I'm not forcing anybody to sign up for that card by simply mentioning it...

Oh you mean the same folks who trip all over themselves telling newbies what cards to get while downvoting others so they can reap the karma to post and get clicks on their referral links? I’m sure those same people make sure to vet everyone who uses their links that they’ve posted to a public forum. No, I’m sure they don’t give a second thought to whether anyone who used their links gets in over their head six months down the line.

Gave you an upvote.

Oh my! How annoying. I agree with @Lain. Doubt all these people are vetting everyone using their links. Are they jealous much?

Why are finances, credit cards, etc such a taboo topic. People think they can give others advice on where to eat, what car to drive, where to vacation, even who to vote for...but try to post a helpful financial tip and you’ve crossed a line!

Thanks haha. I thought wow this is a legitimately helpful offer to somebody with CC debt. I think I’ll share it in the event it can help someone...apparently it’s easier to play the pessimistic “what if game”. How about a what if where by sharing that a friend of mine was able to payoff $5k in CC debt, alleviate stress over finances with their spouse, avoid a divorce, protect their children from the difficulties of a broken house, etc... I guess positive what ifs just don’t play as well hahaha.

Right, money is the number one thing couples fight over but no one wants to talk about it. Weird, right?? If everyone was fighting over broccoli, I'm pretty sure we'd be discussing it and trying to come up with solutions to help. But don't you dare discuss financial matters.

I found your post and upvoted it too. I have no karma (is that what they call it??) so I really have no clue what I'm doing but thought I'd try to show support :)

I've been lurking over there for a while...the what card should I get thread...I am not sure if the people helping out are just trying to get referrals and "sell" their plastic? All I see over there is double dip the CSP/CSR, SPG Biz, CIP, a few Plat AMEX suggestions. Now I am doubting whether the information is accurate or just a means for a end (referral bonuses). It's a great concept, but I am a bit leery. But what do I know? I feel like a boss when I whip out my DISCOVER IT for the cashback match. :teacher:

Hi everyone. My CIP should arrive today and I'm brainstorming ways to make MS. I have a Disney trip coming up and need to buy about $1400 worth of gift cards to cover the balance. I just want to make sure I'm not missing a savings opportunity using the CIP for this. In other words, using the CIP for this purchase only benefits me by meeting MS, there's no other way to gain rewards correct? Normally I buy gift cards at a grocery store with my Amex BCP for 6% back.....I hope that was clear, haha :)

Well, it is an interesting phenomenon. I've been paying much more attention to my own financial situation this year - DH lost his job, so our income was cut in half, and there is not much opportunity for his profession where we live, so his income isn't likely to be what it used to be anytime soon. Fortunately, we can live on my salary, but I'm paying a whole heck of a lot more attention to our money than I used to. Do I discuss this with anyone in real life? Nope. Not at all. I'm grateful for various online forums where I've been able to be open about turning into a frugal fanatic (and a churner!!!) and get advice/support.

Travel is 3x with the CIP - so it may actually be more beneficial to pay Disney directly, rather than buying gift cards (unless you can get gas points, discounted Dis Cards etc. that are non-credit card rewards that are better than 3x).

DH ordered himself new glasses from Warby Parker last night on our CIP. So a little bit closer to meeting MSR on our CIP. Never mind that I REPEATEDLY told him last month to look at their glasses and order himself a pair before 2/28 because there was an offer on my Marriott visa for Warby Parker. :sad2:

I'm thinking we should have our MSR done, or close enough to done, by the end of the month that I can apply for CSR/CSP for him. Need to pull his credit report first and make sure that the CSP is gone from where I accidentally added him as an AU when first starting out. Just to double check, are we still in good shape for using middle names/pet's names/etc. for AU cards? I figure I'll want get an AU on both cards so that I can use it to help meet the MSRs, but didn't know if there was anything in particular I needed to look out for.

Yesterday, we went to Lowes and bought 2 $50 GC on the Amex cards with $10 statement credit offers, then went to Shop Rite and eventually bought a $100 Lowes GC to get the $20 shopping voucher using the Freedom with Chase Pay for 5x. I say eventually because it took 3 people and 2 registers to get Chase Pay to work. To quote Cashier #1, "We take Chase Pay but I've literally never had anyone want to use it", and Cashier #2, "Chase Pay is not normal."
Anyway, $200 of Lowes purchases for $160 plus 500 UR. We need new ceiling fans. :)

Discover IT question: Warehouse Clubs still this quarter - Sams Club thru the Discover site is ongoing 5% bonus...so purchasing an item at Sams Club online should be ? ? ? I did notice an online purchase at Sams was categorized MERCHANDISE, not warehouse club too...anyone have any input or experience? TIA

I upvoted too. Hopefully did it right.

Oh, I’ve got this...@lain will be proud...
CIP codes 3x on gyft. Buy Walmart gift cards (3x) and take to sams for discounted Disney cards.

ETA: checkout thru PayPal on Gyft. And do it ahead...my cards seem to be delayed which is super annoying.

Learning...slowly but surely!

We are in the same boat... I decided to not buy anymore gift cards, have $500 to cover food and souvenirs, and just charge everything to our magic bands and pay it with our CIP.

We head out tonight to Cali! I’m having major anxiety over this log flight, past bedtime, with a 2 year old. :scared:

DH is taking the boys skiing at big bear lake tomorrow. We are staying in San Bernardino for 2 nights. Any way to get me and dd2 to DL for the day? They will have the rental car to get to the ski place. I didn’t plan ahead on DL because I have no idea how she will be with the time change and all the travel, but I’d like to go if I can. I also see it is supposed to rain though. Of course, I come from “rains more than Seattle nashville” and bring the rain with me to sunny Southern California.:headache:

I always need something from Lowes, so I scoop up any discounts I can! However, I don't do any ordinary spend there because I have the Lowes card and it's 5% off all the time. And sometimes they have 10% off specials - kind of ruins it!

In other news the snow is falling here. The local weather person, Sue Palka pretty much nailed it - the heavy snow started around 8am and its supposed to continue all day and evening.

I was not in the mood to get the snow blower out last night, but I see I'm going to have to get ready and drag it out shortly or it will be a lot more difficult to get it through the gate from the back yard.

I won't be working it. The neighbors will take care of business. I think I'm the only one in about 8-10 houses with a machine. Last snow was in 2015-2016 winter that really had to be shoveled. I know because of the receipt for the snow blower - Dec 2016! No big snow since then for us as my machine has never had to be used.

Daughter has a flight into BWI at 10:40pm Thursday night. Hopefully all will be clear by then.

We had some snow last night in Nashville but it has been to warm lately for it to stick thank goodness. I hate winter so I was grumbling all about it.

Do you have any other suggestions of things to do? We’re going to spend one day taking a little road trip a couple of hours north to go to the Warther Museum. But we’ll have a little time left to do something else in Cleveland.

I love the ballpark there, if you're into baseball. There's also a great little food/bar district around 4th street that we made an evening out of exploring.
