Wow, lots of upset folks on this thread, and can’t blame you. It seems important enough, one of you may want to start the Jambo pool topic as its own thread. You’ll probably get even more responses, especially concerning alternate reservations.

Through the years all of the resorts’ have had pool closures of varying lengths. AKL’s last one was in early 2010, I believe. They announced it mid October 2009, and work was supposed to run from 1/4-1/29. It actually went longer and Uzima pool did not re-open until 2/11/10. The hot tub was closed during that refurb, btw.
Disney’s modus operandi in these situations is to give a couple of months notice. Sometimes they offer access to another resort’s pool - I remember during the Poly pool refurb they offered use of the GF pool, sometimes they just say another pool or pools in the case of CBR at that resort will be open. I don’t think it’s a good way to do business, but it is hardly unique to this pool closure at AKL. If it runs from Sept. until Dec. that sounds like a pretty massive refurb - I shudder to think what they are up to - probably another of those redesigns, sigh.
Ironically we almost always book savanna view, but I thought I’d save some points this trip and I booked standard view DVC back in Jan. and early Feb. thinking pool view wouldn’t be the end of the world - now of course it’s way too late to change. I hope they are done by the time we get there in late Nov..

Thanks for the info! Here's wishful thinking on my part, but if that refurb took a little over a month, and this refurb is scheduled from 9/4/18 - winter 2018, maybe instead of a redesign, they're just over reaching and they'll finish it up early! One can dream I guess.

I'm honestly more irritated that I haven't gotten an email yet we will be there the second week of Novemeber. The pool being closed for us isn't a huge deal. We are staying at Kidani on rented vacation points so moving wouldn't be an option (nor would we want to). This will be our first stay at AKL and that for us is the most exciting! It is a bit of a bummer that Kidani's pool will probably be really crowded but I guess it will be just something to deal with at the time. I feel for everyone whose plans are now in upheaval because of this!

I'm so sorry for everyone who will be affected by the pool closure. We are not pool people- or I should say I WASN'T a pool person until we did a 2 night, resort-only stay at AKL last summer. Thinking about the wonderful pool/bar afternoon we had weighed on my decision to stay at AKL this summer, instead of ASMu with free dining. We will be there 8/22-8/28, so hopefully will be safe from the construction IF Disney doesn't decide to start early... but I would be mightily upset if I found the Jambo pool closed during my vacation. Crap, they give $10 a night to value hotel for declining housekeeping; that's the least they could do for the Jambo pool closure, considering the cost of staying at AKL!!! I'm really sorry for everyone's messed-up plans.

I'm more concerned about the hot tub closing than anything. We'll be there at the end of October and I have arthritis in my hips: a hot tub at night is a must after a Disney park day.

You probably won't get an email because you are staying at Kidani and Jambo is the one impacted by the closure.. We are staying at Jambo Nov. 6-10 and though we are not pool people we enjoy the pool bar. Safe us a seat at the bar!!

That actually makes a lot of sense. They should send to Kidani just to warn people haha. We enjoy the pool bar as well, always plenty of seats

There is the steam room in the gym that is nice.

This is exactly the point I made to the Disney cast members when I rang. It’s not JUST about the pool being closed. It’s the impact it has on guests and ultimately the rest of your trip. So in your case, now not being able to utilise the hot tub you’d paid for inclusive of the hotel will not result in you being in pain after a heavy Park day, meaning probably a reduced nights sleep, with the aftermath then rolling into subsequent days. I very much spoke for many people when I rang, my main upset was the lack of consideration for how their customers were going to be affected. So shocking by Disney. We need to reboot the #nopixiedust on Twitter and get people talking!

Unbelievable I have been combing the WDW site since we booked free dining at Old Key West for the week after Thanksgiving looking for AKL and just got into Jambo house today. I look up this thread to read the latest news and the pool is going to be closed? This is an ENORMOUS deal as we have a 4 year old and always take a day off from the parks midweek and do the pool all day. And they are not offering us the chance to pool hop to another resort? This is unacceptable. For 6 grand I need a working pool and hot tub and not the Kindani which will now be effectively double booked with people. I am going to complain and do so loudly. I strongly suggest someone start a thread about this and lets work as a group to see what can be done. As I'm new I can't start said thread....

That’s a thread for this exact issue but in another forum! So frustrating. Sadly no complaints have been acknowledged yet, we just keep getting met with the same response!

I just read through the last 10 or so pages of that thread and it is looking bleak. I hadn't even considered the eyesore factor yet. Has anyone had any luck with getting a pass to another resorts pool? This costs them ZERO dollars why would they draw a line in the sand on pool hopping for God's sake?
