Disney announces new Ticket system for WDW

Yeah - somebody pointed out in the video it looks like tickets for their dates went down. IF that is true and ticket prices are LOWER for some dates...I will GLADLY eat my words there. :) That would truly be a positive part of this change...
I'm not far from you, so I will gladly print this thread out and come video you eating it for everyone to see!! :rotfl2:

I could see something like @skier_pete suggested, but rather than 80% increase 20% decrease, I see 50% big increase, 40% small increase, 5% the same, and 5% tiny decrease.

Never mind...saw the notation on the bottom of the video!

It doesn't make sense that prices will go down for anyone.

New attractions, strong economy (for now), high WDW demand; there will be no safe refuge for anyone including AP holders who are celebrating perceived immunity. APs made sense because it was more cost effective if you went for at least X number of park days. With park day prices going up, APs will inevitably follow suit.

If I were WDW I would make the cheapest ticket option slightly less than tickets are now. Its the ONLY way to soften the shock of the Peak pricing that we will all get in 20 days.

Agreed. However, those that are local might wait until there are enough new attractions/events before purchasing another AP. I know we ping pong between WDW and Uni. just to experience something relatively "new" each year.

I think how Disney wants to proceed with ticket sales is to know exactly when ppl plan to visit and making flexible options more money because you're not exactly telling Disney when you're going. It may be a push to have frequent/last minute/flexible consumers to buy AP's instead.

I refuse to get upset over a large company figuring out ways to help its bottom dollar. People are going to go to Disney no matter what they do. So we can complain and ***** all we want on here, but the reality is, we still will go :)

And I refuse to get upset until I know more about the pricing situation. For now, I have bought my package for November a long time ago (before the price update) and I am pleased. I always plan my holidays to know when I actually plan to go so this does not bother me in the slightest.

We already started to change our Disney vacation habits, and this will just push us more in that direction. We used to be a once a year trip family, always over Thanksgiving. Most likely now we will go once in October for F&W and Halloween, once in November for thanksgiving, and once in February for presidents week. 1 AP and our current DVC contracts can cover those three trips. Then we'll take a year off, and do something similar the following year. I can see more and more people moving to this type of vacation planning until they jack the AP's and/or restrict the DVC/Gold AP even more on dates.

I don’t think most people are complaining or getting upset, rather just trying to understand how the details will work. This is a pretty big change from how it’s always been done so of course it will generate a lot of discussion.

Yeah - I don't see a lot of irrational complaining anywhere at this point. I think it's a fair criticism to say that Disney says this makes things Simpler AND in truth it seems to make things more complex...

My mother-in-law was just saying to me this weekend "I don't know how you can go to Disney so often. The planning drives me crazy!" She is the main planner for a trip that most of my wife's family is going on Thanksgiving Week (we aren't going because that week is not my cup of tea). They had purchased tickets ahead of time from UC Tourist before they even had worked out dates and everything. I can only imagine her reaction to news like this, LOL!

So if I have a down payment on a package for next year, but just got 4 day parkhoppers even though I am pretty sure I want 6 day, do I need to make that change now or can I do so anytime since I have the base tickets?

We have booked a RV site with 8 of us. I left off the tickets because I was thinking we could just go on base and buy tickets with a little bit of a discount (basically no tax-military). I was waiting until Jan 2019 before buying any tickets so we would not have to pay the difference because they expired. I am wondering now, if we should add our tickets on there. We are booking for Dec 12-22 in 2019. I think that will definitely be peek season for tickets! What would ya'll do?

I will say this...it is RARE you get any warning about ticket increases. While much of your trip is in the dead zone right before christmas (the week before christmas is usually one of the slower of the holiday season) you also have the Star Wars factor in there and the end of your trips falls in the Christmas week. I would say this - it is unlikely ticket prices will be lower.

It does bring to mind how will outside sellers sell tickets with these variable price structures. Will you still be able to buy your discount tickets through Undercover tourist? Or will they only be able to sell the "anytime" tickets.

I also think that while many people are assuming the ticket prices will be humungous, I am not sure that is really going to be the case here. We will have to wait and see.
