Forbidden Journey Seats? [IMPORTANT]

Another question, has anyone been turned away with the modified seats, and is there any way I can position my body for a better chance of getting a yellow or green light.

Push your butt as far into the seat as you can when you first sit on it........heard a TM tell that to someone more than once.........

Only saw a woman not fit in the modified seat once. I think it had been suggested to her she probably wouldn't fit, but tried anyway.

My husband, mentioned earlier, has only tried with the modified seats. But he's bigger and taller than you.

It is what it is. Try. Wear soft clothes like silky basketball shorts or sweatpants. There's no need to freak yourself out ahead of time. My hubby has a great time at Uni despite not being able to fit FJ, Gringotts, or any of the coasters he yearns to ride. The whole place is just that good.

Update: maybe this is MY forbidden journey, I just saw a picture of Wizarding World hollywood's test seat and they don't even have a yellow light, looks like my luck is out

Hey guys! sorry this is so long, I just wanted to give as many details as possible! If anyone is reading this I just wanted to post this with hopes of maybe helping someone who might be stressed out about heading to Universal. Me and my mom headed there today together, and I've been stalking the internet with anything about FJ seat sizes for almost 2 years off and on as we prepared to eventually take a trip to Universal. We visited Disney multiple times leading up to our Universal trip and my mom never had a problem with the rides, so I don't think she ever even considered that Universal might be a different story. I was so so so worried that my mom would have a problem with the Harry Potter rides that she was so excited to ride, but luckily it worked out well! For reference, she is 5'11 and wears a size 22/24 jeans with a 2X/3X shirt with most of her weight carried in her tummy. (I am 5'9, wear a 14/16 pant with a XL shirt. I fit on everything with no problem). We got there at the opening of the park and headed straight for IOA, particularly the Dragon Challenge. We walked on and the TM sent us to row 2, which I thought was strange since I knew the modified seating was for 3 and 6. Sure enough, she could pull down the over-the-head harness, but the seatbelt couldn't quite reach and click into it, although it was only about an inch short. The TM came around and couldn't get it to click, so we were sent to Row 6. She hopped right in and pulled the harness down again. She couldn't get it to click by herself so the TM had to do it but I think this was mainly due to the awkward angle. Next we tried Forbidden Journey. We walked right on because the line was so short and i casually told her to take the seat on the outside because I knew it had the modified restraint. She pulled down the restraint and I could distinctly hear 2 clicks. Before I could tell her to push down a little bit more a really sweet TM came around and told her "just one more okay?" she barely even touched the harness to get the last click, so I'm pretty sure my mom could've gotten it herself she just didn't know she needed it. Afterwards she mentioned how she thought it was nice that they come around and make sure you're comfortable. She didn't even notice the TM had pushed on the harness. We headed over to Gringotts for the next ride and again I was nervous and I think she was too bc she asked if I thought she should try the test seat. There were so many people in line for it though we decided to take our chances since it was a short wait. We got seated in Row 6 (I'm not sure but I think the seats or restraints on this row have been modified bc we were the only ones that far back) and she pulled the lap bar down. The shin restraints didn't seem to bother her and when the TM came to check seats he told us, "we just need it a teensy bit more." I reached out and again, barely pushed on the bar and he told us she was all set. (I don't know if it was just the TM we got but he didn't help us pull the restraint down, so I think they might not be able to help on Gringott's, but again, it could have just been that TM). We headed back to IOA later that day to ride FJ and DC again. On DC we told the TM we needed modified seating bc he tried to put us in row 5, and he discreetly and quietly told us that we would have to wait an extra ride for modified seating and after we assured him we were okay with that he gestured us to Row 3. My mom hopped in her seat and I did her buckles and that was it. On FJ the TM told her to sit in an outside seat and I heard her one click. The student checking pushed down and I heard the other. He said, "Just one more okay?" and pushed just a little bit for that last one. If my mom noticed that time she didn't say anything. We had a wonderful time, and I hope this helps someone else out! :)

So nice you are sharing with us.

It will help the readers here know the modified seats are available

I know me, on FJ especially, the shoulders are too so close that the angle is awkward to pull down the restraints yourself. Also, I've found the TM very discreet about putting you in the proper row. The back row of Gringotts (and The Mummy) aren't necessarily designed to be modified seats, but because of the stadium seating, there is a bit more leg room which can help in other areas. Over my 4 day trip and probably 15 trips on Gringotts and Revenge of the Mummy, the put me in the last row 14 times. The 15ths time was a walk on and the only seat was in a middle row.

I rarely get put in the last rows on Mummy and Gringotts, but always get put in the modified seats on FJ. And as mentioned above it can be quite difficult with the design of the ride vehicle to pull down the harness effectively, or I might just be weak and need to work out more (it probably wouldn't hurt me to work out more anyway).

kendra, thank you for sharing. I am taking my daughter in 2 weeks and I am really nervous about the FJ ride! I am an 18 on the bottom and I usually wear a mens xl tshirt or womens 18 shirt. Hoping I can fit on the ride!

Reading this thread makes me feel so much better. I'm 5'9, about 240 with it mostly in my belly, and I have been dreading not being able to fit into the seats. I'm starting to go back to the gym so by the time September comes around I'll have lost a couple of inches just to be safe!

Need some thoughts we are going to Universal in October and Im hoping I can fit on all the rides. We went two yrs ago and there were ones that i couldn't get on. I am 5'4 and about 230 size 18 pant but bigger on top I am about 30 lbs smaller since the last trip and hoping to lose another 10 before we go. the harry potter one were the most disappointing to miss. What does anyone think my chances are to fit the ride.

I feel you should be ok on the ride

Congrats on the weight loss you have already accomplished. !

The first time I went to Universal to try and ride Forbidden Journey was in 2012 and I was unable to ride. As we don't really go to Universal as much as we do Disney the next time was in 2016 and I also wasn't able to ride. I've been working hard on myself over the last two years, and I am thrilled to say that this past weekend I was finally able to ride. I had to sit in one of the outer seats and the cast member had to give it one little push, but it clicked no problem and was actually pretty comfortable. Interestingly I went to ride it again the next day and the first time I tried it wouldn't click. When I told them that I had been on it just the day before, the manager took me out to the test seat and said yeah it should work, but me right back in line, and then got it closed easily that time no problem. So perhaps sometimes they are finicky. Anyways, it was a thrill to finally ride it and I could not have loved it more. The combination of the unique ride system/seats and technology, the screens, and the many live action dark ride elements quickly made it one of my favorite rides. It also made me incredibly nauseous both times. This thing wiggles you around a whole lot.
