How hard is it to get FoP FPs?

I'll be making FP selections in about 6 weeks and wondering how hard it's been lately to get FoP FPs. We only go to WDW about once every couple years so I'm really hoping I'll be able to get them. An hour is about the longest we can do standby lines. Beyond that we will usually just skip it. Does it help if I try to get FPs toward the end of our 7 day trip?

Thanks!

Definitely start by looking at dates near the end of your vacation. That's what I do and I've had no issues securing FP for FoP.

My FP booking opened Sunday. I booked FoP for day four of our trip. Today when I was checking, there were still FP available for it for that same day, although all evening times. So availability really does vary.

I wasn’t able to get a FP for it at 60 days out for our whole week, but I kept checking and I got it a couple of weeks before the trip and then modified it to the perfect time for us just a few days before we arrived!

I personally found SDD to be harder. I just booked a President Weekend trip and got FOP with no issue on +4 (all time slots available) and a late evening on our arrival day. SDD has no availability until early afternoon on +3 and it was the first FP I attempted to book at exactly 7am Eastern.

For a party of 3 for 12/5, they were all gone at 60+1 days out, but I ended up finding morning availability around 32ish days out. I was also able to get another FP for it on the day of, I think for around 2pm-ish for our party of 3, as our 5th FP of the day. For my upcoming solo trip 60+3 and 60+5 I got them on my 60 day window for 11:20am on 2/13 and 9am on 2/15.

I got a FP for four at 60+4 at the end of October and and got 2 more the evening we were in the park. We also found SDD much harder. No FP at 60+3 and was unable to get one despite trying every day until we were there.

60 + 4 worked for our party of 11 Nov 2017, we got an evening pass at 60 + 2 this Oct. Since Slinky opened things have improved.

We were successful with 60+7 for our October trip. Had our choice of time for our party of 2. I opted to book one first thing in the morning because the line was shortest then, and there was little chance of the ride going down first thing in the morning.

We were not successful with getting a FP at 60+2, so I agree that your best bet is to try for a FoP FP later in your trip and make that the first FP you book when your booking window opens at 7am.

I had a trip at the end of November, It was suppose to be a slower time. Unfortunately, my AK day had to be our first day. Of course even being on the computer right at 7am I was not able to get FOP for 60d. But i periodically checked and one popped up for my party of 3 at about 40d out. People book and change plans all the time so even if you can not get it book what and keep looking.

you best bet is to put it later in your trip if possible. You luck might also depend on the size of your party- so maybe less likely to get it if looking for a larger party.

FYI - we were able to get 2 additional FP+ day of the week after Thanksgiving. We rode it 3 times in one day.

We have had trouble when trying to get a FP the first 1-3 days of a trip. Day 4 or later is usually not too difficult.
Similar for SDD at HS.

As an annual passholder and local, I've never been able to get Fastpasses for it since it opened because we're capped at 30 days out. There is a benefit to just coming on vacation.

60+7 DID NOT work for us for November 25 to December 1 stay. And that was on the computer at 6:55am eastern and waiting to go.

Ironically we were able to pick them up day of with the refresh trick (and then FOP broke down, wahwah).

My wife and I went this past November 10-18. I booked starting with 60+4 and went in both directions from there and got nothing. To boot, there were tons of glitches happening on the MDE site when I was trying. It was especially packed throughout this week being Veterans day week, so that may have been the culprit.

We previously went October of 2017 and while I struck out with the 60 days advanced booking, I was able to get it about 2 weeks afterwards after checking multiple times a day. Booking that FP became almost like a full time job. Sometimes persistence pays off, depending on if the days that you're planning to go ends up being deemed an "off" week.

I booked mine 60 days out for our 3rd day of the trip & got a really late time about 7:30 pm.
Our trip was last week & the day we arrived at AK we hit our first FP+ & I started trying to modify my next 2 to earlier. I modified both.. including FOP to a really early time.
The moment we entered the FOP walk way ( our 3rd FP+) I started looking for another FOP & I got one by refreshing over & over.
After we rode it a 2nd time & came off the ride within 10 minutes I found our 3rd FP+ for FOP!!
We are just a party of 2 & after that 3rd ride we didn’t want to ride it again & I didn’t try for another one.
The wait times for stand by were like 150 minutes during the day we were there.
Odd thing is the River ride only came up once the entire time & it was when I was trying for our 2nd FOP.

Right on! That’s the way you do it. Of course if too many people figure it out it won’t work. But for now I just stare in awe at anyone who waits more than 30 minutes in a standby line as I walk past them with the FP I obtained 2 minutes and 15 seconds ago.

Because sometimes refresh works and sometimes it doesn’t. I was never able to get FoP to come up for a party of 2 in July (and believe, we tried). But we had tremendous success with the strategy for virtually everything else.

We did ride it 3 times. Once at rope drop, once at park closing and once with a FP I booked when they released a new batch when park hours extended about 3 weeks in advance.

The earliest pre-booked FP I was able to get was 60 + 1 days.
I have been able to get same day FP twice at 6 AM for a 9AM ride, and at noon for a 2:30 (? can't remember the exact time) ride.
And also have ridden it at park close with a 45+ minute wait.
........ An hour is about the longest we can do standby lines. Beyond that we will usually just skip it......
I highly recommend that you DON'T skip this ride if you have to wait an hour or so. It is very much worth the wait if it's only an hour. Plus it is possible to get same day FP and also ride at the end of the evening. The absolute best time DH and I had on our last trip was having Pandora virtually all to ourselves after getting off FOP after the park was closed!
