Chase does give 115 days to meet that MSR ;) and AMEX will delay reporting that card a couple of months most likely.

Does anyone have the new bonus tracker in Chase? DH has it on his CIU. I do not have on my CIP. On DH's page, it says acct opened on 3/3/19 and have until 6/3/19 to earn bonus. That isn't 115 days, it is 3 months. Not sure if a change or just something off on the tracker.

For my CIP, I SMed to confirm the terms since I don't have the tracker. SM said I had 3 months to make MSR but didn't specify the date like they normally did in past SMs like this. In the past they stated a date which was 115 days.

DH told me tonight that his new promotion means he’ll be traveling more. Still has to use the company credit card, but at least he can get some points for his stays and miles for flying!

I didn’t chime in on the significant other traveling talk the other night. DH and I are used to it. We were long distance for the first 6 years of our relationship, and then he worked several jobs involving lots of travel.

To quote one of my favorite books: “Sometimes I’m happy when he’s gone, but I’m always happy when he returns.” :lovestruc

I didn't chime in either, but my response would have not been like the others. :goodvibes
DH has always traveled a couple nights a week, so that is our normal. If he is home too many nights in a row I usually ask him if he has any travel coming up. :wave2: What can I say, I like my alone time.

Interesting...thanks for sharing this! Something to pay attention to for sure!

Yup, whenever you talk about your husband’s work travel I think how similar it sounds to DH’s old schedule. He used to have platinum marriott status from his stays and not churning, if that tells you anything!

His old job involved fun travel, like Florida and Hawaii. His new job is more like... Kansas :rotfl:

DH might be off to Chicago next. I said hey, that a somewhere we could do a weekend. His response? No, I dont want to be there at night :confused3

Now, I know you dont earn points from stats booked through third parties, but can you at least earn night credits? I feel like I read that somewhere. His work books everything through hotels.com

Relative to Citi and AA matches - there was a discussion the other day on r/churning about whether people should stop asking for matches because it’s too blatant (ie are asking for the train to derail)...

I’m honestly not sure where I stand. I think the initial comment (aside from the abundance of profanity) has merit. However, if I stop asking for matches but everybody else continues I’ve really achieved nothing but screw myself. I’d be interested in folks thoughts here.

Definitely a tragedy of the commons problem there. Given that you know others will continue to ask for matches, and there’s no way to stop them, I think it’s in your self-interest to keep asking for matches.

I did read over that discussion, and agree to a point with those who are going to apply for the highest SUB offer they can get despite a higher MSR, because matches have always been somewhat YMMV but the recent trend has been seeing more denials. It’s a risk and you could lose out on ~20k points without another opportunity for another ~95 days (or 2/60). And who knows when the train ride will end?

Not sure what to make of this one yet. I feel like we’re missing something as they only got 3 Chase cards in the last 7 months. They did get a 2nd CIP though... I don’t want to alarm anybody, but these shutdown reports are increasing again.

EDIT: so apparently this person was 4/24, carrying as much as $120k in CC balances, was recently denied for a CIU (and struck out in recon) in Feb yet came back in April for a CIP#2, and was funding numerous bank accounts. Perhaps we see the reason now...

I won't stop asking for a match. The train will go off the rails at some point...they always do in this game...I'm going to keep on keeping on until I can't anymore ;)

I have two portals - one for personal and one for biz. Both are showing all cards closed. I was approved for cip2 of 4 April, after applying two weeks prior and passing identity check one week prior after I called in when 30 days went to 7-10 days. When I called in it was just identity verification questions which I passed and csr said she was endorsing for approval. I funded 3 bank accounts in the last few days and went to do another one today and it declined. I went to portal and it said card was closed. Called general number and csr said it was closed 8 April (even though I made charges after that which went through.) I found number to call and attempt reinstatement and will try that in Monday and get more data as to the stated reasons for shutdown.

The strange part is he says the rep told him the card was closed on 4/8, but he was still making charges after that date.

I don’t know, if I’m Chase that guy seems risky. Not so many accounts but funding 4 bank accounts? Wouldn’t that factor into bust out risk?

Also - how about this:

Feb 2019: disapproved for CIU. Failed recon. I think it was mainly the 120k balance I am carrying on my CCs (0% or 2% interest)

Carrying 120k in CC balances??? Also denied in Feb but then come back in April and try for a CIP... sometimes I don’t understand people’s strategies (or lack thereof)...

As is typical - more information is coming out now as people ask questions. Case in point: when I initially shared the story I don’t think he’d yet mentioned the bank account funding lol.

I want Amex to love me like they love you! I have 5 credit cards now and need to make room. Tell me what you are doing exactly. I get waiting at least a year before closing but then what? SM to close? Waiting for AF to post? Do you pay it and then ask for refund?

I wait for the annual fee to post and then I call asking for a retention offer. I have gotten offered nothing so I call and close. I think the big thing though is all my spend pretty much has shifted to Amex. I MS MSRs. The Gold gets my restaurant and grocery purchases and BBP for everything else. I also have been getting offers on my other cards that I will use.

I think shutdown without any good reason is very rare. Unicorn. Eventually there’s a reason you can see where the bank considers them too high risk. This guy doesn’t seem like a unicorn. I wouldn’t give him a credit card. Lol

Yes - I primarily share these to just serve as a reminder that “you are not special” (translation: nobody should believe they are exempt from shut down). Luckily we don’t have anybody here trying to do anything too crazy or stupid.

If you’re at your 5 credit card limit, I’ve seen it recommended to go ahead and apply for credit card #6 (don’t cancel a card first and have that potentially count against you). You won’t be approved and will have to call in, but you know why. The rep will ask you to close a card to open a new one. Close the one you don’t want that’s over a year old.
