Newbie question. Is CIP “gettable” if one doesn’t have a business or has a very limited small business?

The one thing I'd be concerned about in your case, since you work for Chase directly?, is if they allow moonlighting. I know some companies still have policies against running your own thing while working for them. If you open up a business card that would let the cat out of the bag I would think. If not, then it's gettable, at least historically.

As I posted a few days ago, DH was approved for the CIP earlier this week. He also holds a Chase Ink Plus from late 2014. Both using his name/SSN as busines name.

Is he ok to request the old Plus be closed or should we wait until the next AF posts and then call in? I figured he could say he prefers the bonus categories of the new CIP or something like that.

Another option is downgrade to CIC, is there a downside to that?

The Chase Ink Plus (CI+/Ink+) is the basically the older version of the Chase Ink Cash (CIC), but with an AF so it has some of the benefits of the Chase Ink Preferred (CIP).

The biggest difference is Ink+ earns 5x UR at office supply stores and internet, cable, and phone services, but up to $50k in spend/calendar year vs. capped at $25k/calendar year on the CIC.

Being such an old card, DH can close it at any time, even by SM. If you plan to take advantage of the gift card deals at OD/OM/Staples, then either keep the Ink+ or PC to a CIC. (A lot of these stores do or are increasingly asking to see ID to match the credit card, so either your DH would have to go on the gift card run or get you an employee card). If you plan to do a volume of more than $25k in the 5x categories in a calendar year, keep the Ink+ for the higher ceiling. But if $25k/yr. in office supply stores and internet, cable, and phone services purchases is plenty for you, PC to the CIC and save yourselves the AF. I think if you close the card, you won’t get any refund of the most recent AF that was paid. If you PC the card to a no fee card, Chase should issue a prorated refund.

How does going for a 2nd Citi AA biz work now? I don’t need a mailer anymore? (I never considered a second bc I wasn’t going to get the mailer) Do I have to cancel the first or can I just have two cards?
I did not cancel my first biz nor did I lower the CL. 20k on first biz and another 20k on second. I do plan to lower the CLs now though.

No need for a mailer and you don’t need to cancel the first but you can if you want to.
How many would you recommend leaving open at one time? I'm wondering if I should plan to cancel one card every other application or if they really don't care & I can just clean house once a year.

I agree but the round trips leaving in and out of 1 city is a lot cheaper than 2 separate one ways. I can do that all day on domestic but on intl
prices shoot way up. I prefer the legacy 3 for the points. Although i may look at Norwegian just for convenience sake.

I’m sure you already are aware of this, and others can probably give you better details and know more, but I know on United points flights you can stop somewhere for a few days and then continue on to complete your round trip. So if your round trip was somewhere-USA to London, you could go via Paris on the way there and stop for a few days but it would still be considered part of your USA to London leg so it would not cost extra points. Then your return trip back would be London to somewhere-USA. The key is that it has to be a return trip to get the ‘free’ stopover. I’m not sure if their cash bookings work the same way. I’m also not sure if this is still a thing, but I know it used to work this way.

Relative to Citi and AA matches - there was a discussion the other day on r/churning about whether people should stop asking for matches because it’s too blatant (ie are asking for the train to derail)...

I’m honestly not sure where I stand. I think the initial comment (aside from the abundance of profanity) has merit. However, if I stop asking for matches but everybody else continues I’ve really achieved nothing but screw myself. I’d be interested in folks thoughts here.
I was actually thinking to myself lately that the asking for matches may be a bad idea as it draws attention. That is why I went for the highest spend/SUB myself and will cont to do so. No judgement from me, though, just my personal thoughts on it.

I have three currently open in my name. Idk what the limit is.

Would you happen to know if it goes by EIN or by name? So for instance, I have AA biz from years ago via EIN, still open. Just applied for another due to recent “thing.” Do you know if the same 75 days (I think, because of EIN correct?) goes regardless of whether next app is in my name or DH name if they are both same EIN? He has never had Biz in his name. Could I do his now with his name but same EIN as mine? Or do I need to wait 75 days regardless of the name because it would be same EIN? Thanks!

I’m sorry, I have no idea. I don’t have an EIN. I’m interested in knowing this because if I could get two business cards every 95 days one with a social and one with an EIN, I’d get one lol

I don’t think they’re doing it for interest....they said some is at 2% and the explanation for why was “it’s complicated”...:scratchin
That might be my favorite part of the story
I don't think he'll earn nights from hotels .com from the hotel chain, and he's not supposed to get any elite perks for the duration of the stay either. But he should be getting the 10th night free from hotels .com if they are booked through his hotels .com account.
Unfortunately the lady that books the travel books through her hotels.com account :badpc: shes married to the owner. I hope they use the free nights at least

I guess I could fill out a missing stay request for the heck of it, worst they cam say is no, right?

Yeah... this is why I prolly won’t apply for CIP.
When I retire (which hopefully is not too far out) I will revisit CIP.

I’m really behind, as usual, so this may have been answered already. Plastiq FREQUENTLY is not up to date with their payment status descriptions. I’ve had many many instances where a payment has been deposited and it was days before they posted the payment as “deposited” or complete or whatever it says when I logged in. So I wouldn’t worry yet!

Thanks for letting me know. It is still showing as pending!

Ok, thank you anyway! I was wondering if I should just stick with him using SS and me using EIN and then that would be safest I guess. Or, I guess we could be the DP we want to see and try some other combinations ha ha!

We are lucky in that we have a decent amount of legit spend so it’s really not the end of the world if we meet a MSR that does not result in a bonus (although currently finishing off our second Cap One Spark 50K means we don’t have a lot of spare ‘spend’ for about another 4 weeks...almost there and the goal is to redeem towards Alaskan cruise when all is said and done, so hopefully should be worth it!)

I’ll update if we try different combinations...but likely by then with our luck, the whole thing will be dead (we waited what seemed like FOREVER to get to 24 months for his second CSR, only to have them change it to 48 months literally a week before he was going to apply!! Grrr)

Used our Marriott 35K free night to add on a day to our Disney HHI stay. The hotel doesn't get the best reviews, but it is on the beach and near the Disney Beach House. Our plan is to get our chairs set up and then check in so we have access to the Disney Beach House for the day. Not an amazing redemption, but it definitely covers the AF. https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/hhhgr-hilton-head-marriott-resort-and-spa

Data point on the Barclays aviator biz AA match. Barclays successfully matched me to 60,000 AA points even though I applied for the 50k bonus after one purchase 45 days before the elevated offer came out (60,000 AA miles after $1,000 spend). I see the 10,000 AA points in my account as an adjustment as the statement closed today.

In essence, I received 60,000 AA miles for the price of a pack of gum.
