AAA opinions? Mainly signed up a few years ago for DHs peace of mind when I would drive back to NE alone. This is my renewal month and I'm trying to decide if I should, being as I've never used it really, maybe a hotel discount once or twice though I've never had to show the card. On the other hand, its $89...
I considered cancelling it 3 years ago. I decided not to for some reason...1 month later my battery died in my car in a parking lot over an hour away from home. AAA came out within 30 minutes and jumped me - I’ve paid it since then, no questions hahaha.

Its not much money for decent savings programs and great service if you ever do need it. I think about it kind of like any type of insurance- you don’t wanna need it and its $$ that could go elsewhere, but you are glad you have it if it ever comes to that.

We actually just got some cool gifts at our local AAA member event yesterday matter of fact!

This was similar to my timing. My fee posted 1/1 and the statement also closed on that date. I made travel charges on 1/8 and 1/12 and I had PCed by Jan 24th. I did not write down the exact date but I remember I paid Airport parking that day with it knowing it would not code 3x but since I had some credits coming I used it anyway. I waited about a week after my travel charge and credit posted before I PCed.

Thank you! I appreciate you sharing your timeline.

I love talking about food lol. My favorite booth was the smokehouse in America. They had the “Potato, Chorizo Fondue and Green Tomato Relish” omg it was amazing. I also liked the chocolate cake there. I also liked the Szechuan Spicy Red-braised Beef Shank from Lotus House.

Didn’t really care for the Fried Green Tomatoes from Italy. It was too hot for that. SO liked the tortellini tho.
SO liked the chicken kabob from marrakesh too, but I didn’t really care for that.

The cookie butter worms n dirt from flavorful kitchen was also really good.

I wanted to try so much more food, but we got so full. A lot of the stuff is overpriced though. I usually use snack credits for these items. A lot of the substantial food was $7-9 and it was small. Like one or two things didn’t really fill me up.
Thanks for your reviews. I wanted the beef from Lotus House but was worried it would be gristly because the China booths are always hit & miss for me at these festivals.

We are really looking forward to The Smokehouse & the citrusy booth.

The price are just hilarious to us at this point. $12 funnel cake.

I just can't believe how fast this is all happening.
I remember back when you DH was interviewing for the job he didn't get and the applied and got called for several all over the USA. I told DH that see, people actually do apply for jobs where they have no connections and get them. I was making a point because he told me he can't just app to jobs in Charleston without connections and that the good jobs come from networking. Meanwhile, here you are moving, and here I am stuck in TN.:badpc: No, really, happy for you though!
Lol I think it really depends on the job sometimes. As a teacher, I've learned it's extremely hard to get anywhere without any connections. It's possible, but it's a lot harder. For Dh being a software engineer, it's a lot easier because they need software engineers almost everywhere. It helps that he's got his Masters and has been a "Scrum Master" which is like a team lead and kind of a big deal for most places when hiring.

If you can get the same road side assistance from your insurance or a credit card is it worth paying for it multiple times? I used the one offered with my insurance and it worked well. I was going to use the one from a credit card but had a card for the ins one in my wallet so I didn't have to look anything up.

Time to watch Bring it On :happytv: I also grabbed the two sisterhood of the traveling pants movies. I like the 2nd one more but it's been a bit for those too. I stop watching things on dvd when they are on tv all the time and then they stop and I have to get the dvd's out. That's why I bought Accepted, that's a fantastic movie that is totally underrated.
Is Accepted the one with the hot dog guy that says "Ask me about my weineeerrrs"?

It's the same for my dh. He's an IT Director. Should be plenty of jobs but there aren't. He oversees software engineers and all other IT roles. There are lots of positions for software engineers and network admins and DBA's...but you only need one IT Director for each company...so there just aren't many openings. It's a bummer cause it makes changing jobs, even with connections as my dh has found, really difficult.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out with the DVC issue. I decided to sleep on it & I woke up to an email from the owner saying that she had changed her mind, and would be refunding the full deposit. I am not sure what happened but I am really glad to have avoided an awkward situation.
I'm glad that worked out for you. It sounded like a weird situation.

A few weeks ? months ? ago we discussed that Chase may only be allowing 90 days instead of 115 to make MSR. I haven't seen anything since so am I safe to assume it remains status quo at 115?

We've never, ever had AAA. A couple of years ago, my dh gassed up in a small town in NM and the gas was bad. His truck didn't make it very far at all when he completely broke down. I believe he used the roadside assistance of the CSR and they covered the towing.

Yup, like @wendow and @afan already pointed out, the CSR (and Plat) come with roadside assistance, often the same companies that contract with AAA. I just canceled my membership, which I only picked up for the discounts at independent hotels that I couldn’t book on points (but also where I’ve never had to show my AAA card).

This is also something worth pointing out - I know a lot of churners who don’t carry AAA or roadside coverage with their auto insurance BECAUSE their CSR or Plat has it. BUT - you need to remember that if you cancel all of those cards. It’s becoming increasingly common in our group to cancel or downgrade your CSR (and not everybody has an AMEX Plat) so if you were counting on this benefit, make sure you address that in some fashion IF you get rid of your CSR. :)

Yep.

Hey @platamama - regarding this DP... Did either you OR your husband get the $250 stmt credit on this first statement?

I haven't actually bought the AA gift cards on either card yet, but it's on my list of things to do. I'll post an update on here about what happens when I do.

I've kept our AAA membership even though I have the CSR, probably just out of habit. But I do use it for hotel discounts, and that seems to cover the cost pretty well. I also have home/auto/umbrella insurance with AAA and I think I get an additional discount on those from having a AAA membership. They've been awesome on my hail damage claim. And I recently bought a new car, dropped the 12 yr old minivan to liability only, and the policy for all three vehicles costs only $250 more annually. I haven't really decided about what to do with the van, it's so cheap to have right now. And so far on the new car, I've gone 400 miles on 3 gallons of gas, it's crazy. I don't need fuel points anymore!

ETA: My van broke down in the middle of nowhere in WY on our way home from Yellowstone in 2016. It was 10 miles to the nearest town (pop. 900, Dubois), DH had to hike back a mile to the nearest human establishment to use a phone (our Verizon, AT&T, and TMobile all had no signal out there!) and called AAA to come tow us to town. Turns out our alternator had gone bad, and we had to stay overnight until the shop could get us a new one. That was a very memorable trip home.
