I tried “practicing” getting a BG today, since I’ll be there in one week, and I am so relieved to see the initial BG’s last more than a minute!

Off topic, I’ve seen people mentioning that they can see bus status in the app. This is my first time back in two years, so that’s new to me. I can’t find where to see that in the app. Where is that?

It’s under the “My Resort” part of the app, but the icon only shows up on your check in through check out date.

I would caveat that while it’s useful, it can be a little wonky with early AM bus times. When things are pretty dynamic - buses being put in service on the fly, etc - it seems to not always be 100% reliable.

So one of you got there at 5:20 and got group 42 and one if you got there (in) at 6:58 and got group 50. But I get that the folks that got there at 6:58 will have long lines for the other rides, and those that got there super early will be at the front for those other rides...

It doesn’t matter when you get in (as long as it’s by park opening). It’s about your internet connection and how quick your fingers are. Which is why I believe it should be first come first serve.

I got to the park today using the bus. Was at the Contemporary/ BLT bus stop at 6am and had to wait till 6:28 for a bus. I had no bags so could use the no bag line. I stuck to the right after I got through security and was tapped in by 6:50 with plenty of time to find a good spot before 7.

Good morning everyone! I‘m planning a trip next month and have a few questions. I’ll be there the first week of February.

I keep reading that there’s now no need to arrive super early for RotR now but I also want to try to rope drop Slinky Dog first thing. I won’t have FPs at the Studios that day so I’ll still need to get an early start to stay near the front of the rush to Toy Story Land just like back in the pre-RotR days, right?

My phone is pretty old, is this going to be a problem? I haven’t upgraded from an IPhone 5S because it fits in my pocket and I don’t want a bigger one! I have AT&T. Should I use that or WiFi? I’m hopeless with technology.

Thanks!

My daughter and I are planning to get to the park about an hour early just to provide some stress relief in case we get delayed somehow. But it’s good to know that the backup just before opening isn’t that great.

Im sure it's been answered but the search function gave me a bunch of results but no real answer...how do you know the boarding groups are open? Is there an announcement? At like 6:58 do you just open MDX and and start repeatedly hitting "Find Out More"until you see the "Join Boarding Group" button turn orange and if it isn't orange but back and try again? Is there an announcement?

We arent rope dropping Slinky Dog or Smugglers run on our ROTR day and will walk down sunset blvd to rock n roller coaster once our boarding groups are secured but wasn't sure exactly when to start looking for the boarding group.

They announce, but it’s after it opens.

You click “Find our more” then click on “My Status”, then swipe down to refresh.

It seems like one of the big downsides of this boarding group process is that with the word out to be at Hollywood Studios for park open, the rides all have long waits early in the morning. That’s very annoying for the way most of us are used to handling visiting the parks.

If you look at the posted waits right now at 8:00 at DHS, they’re very very bad.

When I was there on Dec 30, I had a countdown timer going on my phone. About 3 seconds before open, they played a musical "chime" and announced boarding groyps were open. The moment I heard the chime, I opened the app and followed the steps. Got BG21. I actually would have preferred BG30-40 as we chose to do Smugglers Run and Aliens Swirling Saucers first. So we took our time returning after our BG was called.

Yes. Lines are horrible in the morning now. I went to HS about 10am on Jan 1 and absolutely no SDFPs available - not even for Little Mermaid or Muppets!!! Ended up just strolling around and shopping a bit as we could only stay until 11am.

On Dec 26 I did the 6am open to get BGs and that went smoothly. Then did Aliens and TSM with short waits at 6am. After that, lines exploded everywhere. 30min wait for ToT at 6:30am! Plus nothing to do for non-coaster peeps like my friend so we just spent 45mins strolling aimlessly. Not quite enough time to walk all the way back to wait in line for Aliens/TSM again.

The parks are still really busy right now though. I was at magic yesterday and nothing was below 20 all day.

I’ve got friends in town right now and they are very slow moving. We’re doing dhs today and I see there’s backup groups available. Our first fp is 835-935 and they’re planning to catch the end of the window. I’m sooooo hoping the backup groups stay open but I’m not holding my breath. They’re ho hum about the ride but I know itd blow them away.

Reports from people onsite seem to indicate that it doesn’t take anywhere close to 30 minutes to get to a Mickey head if you arrive at 6:30.
My family arrived 6:25am got through turnstiles at 6:48am on Friday Jan 3. No bags. That is 23 minutes. If you have that one person ahead of you having problems scanning their band it can be much longer.

Oh. My. Gosh.

This just got better and better with each gif. I love this so much, no way could I just react and keep scrolling. 😍

Aaaw shucks thanks :)
I believe it was a combination of late night delirium, thread obsession, and panic since tomorrow is our day!

I happened to be up early-ish today and backup boarding groups were still open. Here’s a tip for everyone: as I practiced, I took screen shots of each page. Now I’ll be able to see them even after boarding groups close if I need a reminder of what a particular part of the process looked like.

Well, still not the 20-30 minutes of the past but even the 13 minutes for regular BGs to fill up *should* allow for even some minor tech issues to get worked out and still get one. Still not ideal but MUCH better than the 90secs of recent days
I would caution that the Monday/Tuesday even Wednesday after NYE week is relatively 'dead' compared to other peak times at Disney. Starting Thursday of marathon weekend it gets much busier again.

Wondering would it be best once you tap into the park, to go elsewhere out of GE to get a better signal?
