News Round Up 2020

When DH and I left the kids behind in October, I thought the 6/7 AM openings were the greatest thing ever. It bought us so much time. Totally agree it made things very relaxing.

My kids are not nappers, I think it's just going to make them jerks lol. But oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do!

We were there in September when there were 6am openings and we never went. We were able to ride the Falcon with only about an hour wait on our arrival day in the afternoon, so it didn't seem worth it. No regrets.

It’s amazing how early our kids can get up when Disney is involved!!

We were at Disney in Sept and set the alarm for 4:30 for a 6am park opening. My DD hopped out of bed like nobody’s business and we had an amazing day!! I was sure to leave a quieter evening that day and it worked well for us.

That’s gotta be a glitch, doesn’t it? They wouldn’t really have made MFSR tier one and everything else tier two? And looking at the app, that’s what it looks like (tested Feb 22, the 30 day mark). That’s just weird.

EDIT: Reading other posts, looks like it’s just that SDD is gone for tha day already, and it’s just those two rides in tier one. Which is still problemati, I think. I can’t see people with short or off-site stays getting either ride, so to be locked out of getting a tier one suggests Disney is really trying to prioritize the on-site folks staying for at least a week. I’d already begun to think that, considering the algorithm in play for hotel bookings and the very limited AP discount offerings, but wow. That sucks.

I thought they always had something in tier 1 without a height restriction. This seems a little odd. Does the system allow 3 tier 2 fastpasses if you don't want tier 1?

Smuggler's Run now offering FP+! I can't modify my 2/15 FP+, but I did a dummy check for 2/22 and got it! Too bad we're going home on the 18th. Looks like the tiers are changing.

Looks like the FP for Smugglers Run goes into effect on Feb 19th - so explains why you could pick it for 2/22 but not the 15th .... our DHS day is the 17th so no help to us

There really is no perfect answer to this. To me though this is better than it is currently. More tier two options for actual rides vs. all the rides in tier one and star tours plus shows in tier two.

I wonder why they opened up fast passes for Smugglers Run, have the wait times really been that low it can justify that. I guess we shall see how it effects the wait time starting mid February

It’s great for anyone who stays on-site for a weeklong trip...which is more and more obviously Disney’s preferred guest. For APs like us, that go for a weekend every other month or so due to work constraints (DH really can’t take a week off all at once) but always stay on-site and still spend a good amount of money on food and souvenirs, we’re pretty much getting told our time and money isn’t as valuable to Disney. The only way we’re likely to get MFSR now is going to be to stay CL or drop a ton on VIP tours. DH won’t willingly wait in a standby line longer than about 20-30 min, and there’s no way MFSR will be shorter than that for years (we rarely ride FoP for that same reason).

Yeah, I completely get why this makes a ton of people happy, I’m just not one of them. And we leave for Orlando for the weekend tonight, so starting off the weekend grumpy was not part of the plan. Guess we better ride MFSR a couple times this trip...

Brings it in line with FOP vs Na'vi River Journey at AK. At least with FOP (and I would hope the same will be true for MF:SR moving forward) you can watch the app to try to grab a dropped FP throughout the day. I and many others have had the opportunity to ride by doing that. Or, you can get in line right at the end of the night and not wait near as long as you would at any other time of day.
