Big FP+ News: Starting 2/19 New DHS Tiers, MFSR FP+ Added, READ POST #1

For what it's worth, I was just playing around with the Touring Plans app, looking at FP availability. 60+4 still seems to be the target to get a SDD FP. So, adding MFSR to FP doesn't yet appear to have taken any pressure off SDD.

Guessing that may change a little bit going forward.

I would try to rope drop Smuggler's Run-most people have been doing this after getting their RotR boarding passes. But now, lots of people who did snag MFSR FP's will head to TSL for Slinky Dog.
Think that is the strategy we will use. Might even be that at rope drop the queues for MFSR might be shorter than they have been, because not as many people will be heading there if they have a FP for later.

This announcement was perfect for my end of Feb/March trip. SDD was already gone at 60 days out, but I was able to snag MFSR today. Once MMRR opens, what's the best rope drop plan... MFSR, SDD or MMRR?

I am glad you had a better experience changing things for your March trip than I did-our HS day is March 4 (opening of MMRR), and I kept getting the error screen on my iPhone MDX app and laptop MDX-it took me 30 minutes to modify mine from TSMM and two throw aways to TSMM, MFSR and a split between ToT and RnRC, which we had been counting on as fourth FP's.

I think a great deal of it was I was on really early after the announcement. I had no glitches at all. But, I went back an hour or so later to tweak some times and it was a mess.

So people were upset when HS changed tiers back in August/Sept (whenever it was), now that they've pretty much gone back to it (and now even putting the other 2 TSL rides in tier 2), people are upset again.

With only two Tier 1 options, will they increase the availability? Otherwise many won't get any tier 1.

I don't think most people are upset. I think the majority sees this latest change as positive. It might be worse for offsite guests, but it's definitely an improvement for onsite IMO.

It's tough for people staying offsite, that's for sure, and how it will effect crowds is an unknown, but I'm considering cancelling my CL FP's as a bunch of tier 1s are clearly not required for HS.

Let's face it, Animal Kingdom only has one real Tier 1 (no offense, Navi), and look how bad that is for FOP FP, still one of the hardest FPs to acquire. My assumption is this move was anticipating adding MMRR to the mix in the near future...

I'm bummed the tier changes won't be in place for my visit on Feb 5th :( I'm planning a later afternoon hop over to HS and will standby line for Smuggler's Run.
Our day is February 5th also, but we’ll be doing DHS all day. I do kind of wish this was for our dates, but oh well. I’m not sure what we’ll do between our BG, Ogas, Sci Fi, Savi’s, ST, and RNRC, because we really aren’t willing to wait in much line at all and from what I hear all of the rides are swamped all morning at least from all of the people there to get their BG.

Definitely an improvement for on site, long reservations. I really enjoyed the last Tiers iteration as I was able to get same day fp for anything even SDD, now that won't be the case. But that's alright. It just sucks, for me :)
They won't increase number of fp per attractions, so either attraction will be really hard to get at 30 days out

Honestly, I haven't seen an excessive amount of complaining- I expected much worse. There's no doubt that the changes make it tougher for local and off site guests. Then again, on site guests have been taking a hit for quite a while with the boarding passes and tiering at HS. It's nice to see the advantages to on site return just a little although I understand the disadvantage to off site guests.

Exactly as stated above. At some point Disney is going to have to go back to giving something of value to on-site guests. Whether people like it or not, on-site guests pay a good bit more for their stay and should be somewhat rewarded as such. That might not be a popular opinion, but if Disney is going to keep building and expect people to fill those Resorts, there needs to be some ancillary benefits.

Can anyone help me see how this change isn't terrible for off site guests? Currently at 30 days out there is no fps for SDD (obviously), MFSR, TSM, RnRC, or ToT and limited saucer times. Before this change I would of had a shot at the last few on the list for my March trip.

I guess when I have my 3 tier 2 fps I can refresh like crazy for anything and everything, including the tier ones.
I think the unfortunate thing it's a timing issue. Everyone under the sun just changed their fastpases yesterday. So unfortunately guests who's 30 day window opens for the next couple of weeks are going to be kind of screwed. I think it will get better as we move from the calendar weeks of mad scramble and app crashing, but right now it just sucks.

I’m interested to see the split between SDD and MFSR going forward. I do think people panic picked MFSR yesterday because it was available. It’s probably not ever going to be good at 30 days but I’m guessing that you won’t have to be 60+4 for SDD in the future. Both of them might be available closer to 60.

Im interested too. I’m curious if removing the other options from tier 1 negates any benefit there would have been by adding MFSR. I know it’s high capacity, but until MMRR/ROTR are added to tier 1 (whenever that happens) overall tier 1 capacity must have been decreased, right?

Question, so since all the Tier 1's will be gone when we pick FP's.... if I pick up 3 tier 2's.... when I search and re-fresh, will tier 1's show up to change to? Or not?

Sure. If you have 3 tier 2’s, all rides will show up if available. Keep checking!!

Yes. and you can change one of the tier 2s to a tier 1 before your park day. i would refresh the night before or the day off for the best results. before that is highly unlikely, although still possible.
