Rise of the Resistance...ride discussion (spoilers)

We rode last Wednesday, Feb 5. It went down while we were in line in the morning and we got FPs to return, we used them at around 11:30 when it went up again and didn’t have any wait for the first preshow. I just now watched a full ride through by blogmickey, and have a few random thoughts on the ride.

1. we were completely rushed off of the transport ship and through the huge hangar in the Star destroyer. I took a few photos as we walked, but no one stopped for photos or even dawdled. Then we just waited in the hall for maybe 10-15 min before being put into the colored groups and into the interrogation room. I wish we could have spent some of that time in line really looking around the Star destroyer. It was amazing, and on the ride through I watched people were milling around and taking some photos. I hope next time I can notice more, I think that room and the AT-AT room were the ones that really wowed me the most.
2. When they put us on the colors on the floor prior to the interrogation room they really stressed, over and over again, to remember our color (in character). Based on some other comments I gather people were not following color when they got into the vehicles, they must be trying to stop that.
3. We rode in the opposite vehicle from the one I saw on the video, I wasn’t sure I would remember but it wasn’t that hard once I saw the POV, it came back to me. We were up front for the probe droid and went up the elevator in front of an AT AT, not beside it.
4. I completely missed seeing Finn when we rode. Is he an AA or an actor? On the video he looked real, but I’m wondering if they would have a CM there all the time or if it was just a pretty good AA.
5. I think we didn’t have the full version of the very last Kylo Ren. I might be just misremembering, but it seems to me that he just kind of turned toward us but in the video he got nearly sucked out of the ship after a hole was blasted into my the side of the ship. Is that possible? I don’t see how I would have missed or forgot that entire scene but maybe I did. Is it possible he just stood there and turned toward us? Is there a video somewhere of alternatives to that scene when it isn’t working fully?
6. There were so many details I missed, I really want to ride again just to have time to look around and see things both again and things I didn’t see at all. I just found out we might come back in April, so I hope I can ride again then.
7. while I was amazed by it and loved it, I kind of wish they had built an equally amazing thrill ride. After we rode my kids and I discussed whether we liked this or Hagrid’s best, since we just got to ride that in December and it has similar breakdown issues and is the newest ride there that is said to be amazing. My oldest son actually said he likes this Better, I can’t decide. They’re just different. I liked Hagrids for the....funness (I know that isn’t a word) of the ride, I liked this for the amazingness of the ride. I’m not sure I can choose. Based on one ride each I’m going to say I had more sheer fun on Hagrid’s, but was awed by this. Both were great though.
Finn is an AA. On the front facing he’s at the wall to the left.
The rushing through the hanger is part of the show and functional in that they need to get you out of that room before the next ship arrives.

rode twice last week. sunday and thursday. thursday was fastpass (bg 13, 1.5 hours spent in tunnels, drinks/snacks handed out, eventually evacuated off of star destroyer). both rides were side of at at. finn = aa.

we had broken last kylo scene first ride. for us both ride vehicles faced the windows the whole time while kylo ren spoke. never saw kylo or the back of the ship being blown out.

second ride both vehicles went to face windows. then kylo reveal. pulled us closer to him. explosion and lots of wind.

trackless ride with the last scene working was definitely better than the first. first ride went a lot smoother/faster getting into interrogation. also better first order cast members. we were standing in line on the star destroyer for a few minutes before interrogation on our second ride. kind of took away from the flow. i was still a little bitter we waited in line for 1.5 hours only to be evacuated that morning. longest i've waited in line for a disney ride.

one question i have. when you first get into trackless vehicle and go into maybe the first room and make a cirle around the room are there supposed to be two empty trackless vehicles and two with riders in them (or are all 4 vehicles supposed to have people in them)? both times we rode there were empty vehicles in there moving around.

If you're talking about the first room after you get in the vehicle, the other two (empty) vehicles are Imperial droids checking to see if you're legit - the droids have red "eyes" while your droid's are orange. (The audio narration tells your vehicle's droid to tell the Imperial vehicles that they're doing a prison transfer.)

I think they are supposed to be empty. You can hear Beck telling R5 to tell them (the droids piloting the empty vehicles)that it is a prisoner transfer so they'll let us by.

In The ride through I watched they were all mingling around and taking photos, and I read somewhere (I think on another site) that you can take photos in that ride vehicle that sits there. So apparently at least some people were somehow able to spend some time there, and not a ushered through in a line. I get what you are saying, but either it was different for bloggers, they were during a breakdown so they were lax on the speed, or we would have been able to go at least a little more leisurely. Next time I’ll hang back at least, and try to take more of it in. I get they don’t want hundreds of people just hanging out, because you know people would, but it appears to be inconsistent.

I’ll have to check out another video to see where Finn would have been for our vehicle so I know where to look if I get that one again next time.

The empty vehicles you see are going into the room your vehicle just exited to get another group of riders.

The first two times I rode, the line was backed up into the hangar. The second time it was so backed up we were there for the arrival of about four more transports, which ruined the immersion. The third time the hanger was empty; people did pause briefly to observe and take photos.

Just pure speculation on my part, but how are the trackless vehicles powered? I think they have batteries.

Not sure if correct but I watched a video on youtube about the ride and it said electric vehicles that utilized some kind of wireless charging (i think they said it charged at ride exit, had a separate charging area and i bet it charges at vehicle entrance area).

I think that makes sense that they are charging after exit. Now that make me wonder how many prisoner transports they have in full operation during the ride vs. in-recharge-mode.

I also wonder if some of the prisoner transports are merely running low on energy or there is an error and they have to re-charge it manually on the ride to get it back to the recharging station or take it offline, entirely. Again, pure speculation, but I think the logic makes sense. A non-working animatronic, though disappointing, probably doesn't shut down the ride for an evacuation.

They ran us through the ride with a non working AA our first time so they definitely don't close the ride everytime that happens.

When I rode this past Saturday, right after the transport ship was caught in the tractor beam, there was a little bit of filler video of the two pilots trying different things to get away before the First Order officer came on the screen to say that we were being boarded. It was the first time I'd seen that section stretched out for a bit of extra time, though it was still pretty brief. The line inside between the Stormtroopr hangar and the interrogation "sorting" filled the entire corridor, so I think they just needed a few extra moments to get people out of the way before opening our ship. Everything else worked smoothly on my ride.

I do have to say, the transport ship is one of my favorite "tricks" of the ride - everyone expects to exit on the opposite side from where we entered, assuming that we didn't actually move. It's such a cool reveal when the same door opens again and you find out that you've actually traveled somewhere else!

@MeridaAnn - I love how Bek actually looks at the correct doors when he says stand back from those doors, and people still turn to the opposite doors because oh it can't be those doors, that's how we came in...

@ninafeliz - if you got to face the AT-AT, you got what I call "the good car." Love it when the troopers see you and start lowering the guns.

My final animatronic Kylo + effects worked fully both times. I've never seen a video where he is there but without full motion/effects. I've seen B-mode video where you are facing the windows and hear his voice - I think that's his TIE Echelon ship you're looking at out the window in B-mode.

On the color assignments - I saw a video once where the CM officer, totally in character, explained that after interrogation you would be placed in prison transports and that is why you had better know your colors! In my adventure with the mixed-up family, they knew their colors, they just didn't realize oh this is how we're sitting! Wait, the kids want to sit together, Dad wants the front row, whatever.

In the Star Destroyer hangar, both rides they didn't let us dawdle around, but people had a little time to snap pictures. I wonder if they were really rushing people through when you rode because of the downtime, and they were playing catch up with trying to get guests through?

Do CM “enforce” in anyway sitting on the right color?. If I have good luck I might get a front seat (I’m quite short). I really don’t want someone taking it by mistake and then having their phones on my face blocking the view :(.

The cm that "sit you" are different than the cm who assigned the colors. It's up to each person to remember the color and sit where they're told

Haha, after the first preshow, I'm usually the last one to get on the transport because I know that generally will mean I'm close to the door that opens. When my Dad and I did it last week, we were the first group to get on. But because I know the same door opens, I told him to stay close to this side. Because of that, we ended up being the very first ones to ride for the day. It's cool seeing all the first order CMs just waiting for you in the hallway outside of the integration rooms.

It's a good thing we ended up being first as there was a delay when we sat in the car (but then went without a problem), and I guess the ride was broken down somewhere, as people reported they were evacuated while we were riding

I was in the first car of the day a few weeks ago and it was really cool! The ride had opened just a couple minutes after rope drop and the crowds were still working their way into GE - I walked up right behind a dad and his son, but no one else was even coming through the line yet, so they let the three of us go through the ride without anyone else. We could see out both windows in the transport ship without anyone blocking our views, which was super cool, and then we were totally outnumbered by the First Order once we were on their ship, which made them extra intimidating. Plus, I got to take a bunch of pictures on the ride, since there was no one in the row behind me whose view could be blocked by the camera. It was super fun!

Is ROTR losing its luster for anyone else?

I have been on it 9 times now, and experienced the different directions your vehicle may go.
The first few rides on ROTR I was easily deeming this the best attraction that Disney has ever done.

However, after about the 4th ride I started to notice that I was getting less excited about the experience the more I went on it.
Now it is starting to feel like the ride is missing something.

I still love the pre-show portions, probably my favorite part, but even that is starting to get a bit boring. I mostly enjoy seeing the other guests reaction to that portion.

Maybe it is the smoothness of the vehicle moving around.
Maybe it is the fact that most of the ride is screen based and there is not enough for me as the rider to focus on.
Maybe it is the shortness of the simulator part, which is supposed to be the most thrilling part.

I don't really feel this way about any other attraction at Disney. My wife even deemed that she likes Smugglers Run more for how interactive and different each experience may be.
I don't think I would agree with that, but with more destinations and experiences, I can see SR being better in the long run.

Am I alone in thinking this way?
