Will anti-vaxxers decline the coronavirus vaccine (when it's eventually available)?

I know that some people who are anti-vax will still sometimes vaccinate for some items. While some will outright reject any and all vaccines, there are others that are more "pick and choose" and get only the vaccines they think are the most important, or the ones they think are the safest.

I'm wondering what will happen with anti-vax people when we eventually have a coronavirus vaccine?

If they will reject this vaccine, I wonder if they are trying to get the virus now, so they can get sick, get over it (hopefully), and build immunity? Just curious.

I just got an evil idea. Go to anti vax sights and post that the Coronavirus vaccine causes Rickets. Rip that ban aid off and expose your kid to Corona at the earliest opportunity. Preferably right after they get out of the hospital. I'd say do it at the hospital but those doctors that are in on the conspiracy won't let you. Have a coronavirus party.

I know one rabid anti vaccine person. (well did, we had a falling out over Polio being a real thing or not). If I had to guess I’d say absolutely not. She would either believe it’s not a real thing or fall into the coronavirus party category. Given the argument we had about Polio I’m inclined to think she doesn’t believe it’s real.

You mean someone thinks that polio wasn't a "real thing"? Hunh?

O.M.G.

you can't fix stupid :sad2:

Yep, just a “glorified flu.” This set me off because my DH’s grandmother and my SIL’s mother both suffered from the effects of polio almost their entire lives. I had a “do not engage” policy with her but that kind of sent me over the edge.
OMG here too. That do-not-engage policy is a good one.

I have pondered the same question over the past weeks.

I can just hear some, "I won't get a flu shot, but, give me that coronavirus shot.". What??? :confused3
I have been wondering this, too, but from a different angle. I can't get a flu shot -- against several doctors' recommendations -- so am not sure what to do when the new vaccine for this virus comes out. And I"m sure there won't be enough time to watch everyone else get it and then wait for results and feedback. So, the risks of getting it vs. not getting it concern me. I foresee some interesting phone calls with my doctors about this.

I think there are various reasons for not taking vaccines for medical reasons. Obviously some with immune system issues can't. I think many can't because of severe reactions to the preservatives or those with egg allergies. Many vaccines are produced in chicken eggs. It may also depend on how it's produced since there are different versions of the same vaccines using different processes (egg based, cell based, bioengineered).

Wishing you well, tlr, when the vaccine is available.'s

If Covid-19 vax is grown in eggs, I am out, too. They wouldn’t even give flu shot to me when I was pregnant or in chemo. I expect this will be the same.

I don't get the flu shot because it is just a guess at what flu strains will be prevalent the coming season. A COVID-19 vaccine would, I am guessing, target COVID-19 vs a random guess of which coronavirus might be prevalent this year.

I am NOT ant-vax though.

I just read an article last night that one reason a potential vaccine for Covid-19 will take longer is because the vaccine won’t be grown in eggs.

As an aside, the article also mentioned the US’s secret stockpile of chickens & their eggs that are used annually for the flu vaccine - which, while I knew the flu vaccine used eggs, I had NO IDEA that the US has a secret stockpile of chickens & their eggs expressly for this purpose. I mean, it makes sense now that I think about it, but I’d just never given it much thought before.

Regarding a COVID-19 vaccine, yes, I know several people who will NOT get it & will probably end up posting all kinds of conspiracy theories & will say things like, ‘It’s just a cold. Why should I get a vaccine for a cold?”

I remember back in 2009, as soon as the H1N1 vaccine was available, we were in line & were some of the first in our community to be able to receive it since, at the time, we had 2 “at risk” people in our household - a little boy w/ asthma & a 3 month old baby. And I was grateful!!

I wouldn't put it past the government to make vaccinations for this virus mandatory punishable by law. They have already basically initiated a watered down version of Marshall law. As far as getting the virus now to build immunity they have said you dont build antibodies to this strain and can get it again. Bummer.

I have a few Facebook friends who are staunch anti-vaxers and strongly believe in homeopathy. I have not yet seen them express any views on a Covid-19 vaccine. I have also learned not to have conversations with these people about vaccines. They pretty much just talk in circles.
