NBA at Walt Disney World

Some players may be able to request larger beds if there is a physical need. But I don't think we'll see massive changes to hundreds of guest rooms or walls knocked-down.

Also don't forget, Coronado Springs does have connecting rooms. It's entirely possible that in some cases two connecting rooms could be occupied as a single unit by one player or staff member if needed.

My two cents but I don't think you're giving NBA players enough credit if you think they're going to insist on major modifications to guest rooms. Everyone involved knows this is a difficult, unusual set of circumstances. This is the only path to finishing the season. While is bound to be some grumbling along the way, most will do their best to make it work.
Yes, Most of these guys were staying at the Holiday Inn Express on road trips in college. I'm sure they remember how to manage.

And quite a few suites, too.

NBA teams typically work with high-end hotels because of the quality of service, amenities, security, etc. Some elite players have clauses in their contracts dictating certain room requirements. But I think you're selling people short if you think they are prima donnas who are unwilling to live under lesser conditions in the midst of a play-stopping pandemic.

There will be plenty of new facilities added to convention space. They'll get workout equipment, practice courts, video tape rooms, media rooms, gaming lounges, etc. They'll have 24 hour food service and other amenities the hotels do not normally provide. I never said they were prima donnas, nor do I believe they are. I follow the NBA very closely (and have met a few of the players on the Warriors and the Nets - they were SO nice!) and find that a vast, vast majority of the players are incredibly down to earth, really nice people. Yes, they are coming to work and play out the rest of the season and we are super excited. My comments were only to point out that I think WDW has the capability of doing a really good job of making their bubble more comfortable, a lot of fun and very entertaining. I'm not expecting a lot of grumbling from the players either. I assume the vast majority of them are just happy to be able to finish the season.

With the exception of the bedding (which is contractually obligated for a lot of players), I didn't say that Disney absolutely WOULD make such changes, just that they were within the realm of possibility if they were requested. Hotels make furniture-swap changes like that for VIP guests on a fairly frequent basis, particularly when the VIP is anticipating an extended stay. Adding an extra connecting door to a few rooms so that 3-4 rooms can be chained into a single suite is also not all that very far out there in such a situation; it's not the permanent structural equivalent of actually tearing down a wall.

I don't think that most players are prima donnas, but I suspect that there may be one of two, as is normal with any highly-paid profession. It *is* an unusual situation, and I'm sure that most will be willing to forego some luxuries under the circumstances, but I don't think that a bed that is comfortable enough for quality sleep is going to be one of them -- not for professional athletes. The average height in the NBA at large is 6'7", but the average height of centers is 6'11". No wonder many of them put hotel bed length in their contracts.

and I thought my 6’3” son was tall... he’s a shrimp apparently! Wow! Yes they definitely need the beds they need!

Personally, it doesn’t sound like a great atmosphere to be in. No visitors, including family, or leaving the compound for 7 weeks. Then a 10-day quarantine is needed to come into the bubble.
More restrictive than the shelter in place that many complain about right now.

At least both sides came to agreement that testing for recreational drugs like marijuana will not happen during this time.

perhaps more restrictive than many shelter at home states, but also far better than a lot of essential workers currently and their salaries are much higher. My husband works for a utility company (essential) and can’t currently travel by plane or to any restricted area without a 14 day quarantine without pay! if he is exposed in another scenario he has to take 14 days off with pay. My sister (works in a COVID iCU) has much more extreme restrictions and her pay is lower and my daughter works in an industry almost entirely shut down (entertainment/tv/filmmaking). Her job continues from home and hopefully will expand soon.

it’s a crazy time! But they get pay commensurate to the inconvenience of staying at a Disney hotel for a couple of months!

It wouldn’t have been much different had it been in Vegas.

But if the alternative is you lose 1-2M dollars?

No it won't be fun but that is what is needed to get your salary if you are an NBA player.

Thee is a lot I'd put up with for 1-2M dollars

Of course, I didn’t say I wouldn’t do it. Just stating an opinion.

I agree the situation will suck.

Though look at what people on survivor TV show are willing to do for $1M.

Money in this situation is the driving factor for Disney, NBA, NBA Owners, and players. I think everybody would rather play games in their home arenas will full fans and go to bed in their own beds but that isn't possible right now so this is the option.

If any of these sports teams understood what it was like to make minimum wage, they wouldnt be fighting this the way they are. Its actually fairly embarassing to watch.

Until we know exactly what is troubling individual players, it's difficult to comment. By the time they resume, players will be coming off 4 months of unplanned family time. I don't see how many could object to a few weeks of separation in order to resume their careers.

Fringe players may have some reservations--those who know they won't suddenly start playing 30 minutes per game. Also teams who are at the bottom end of the standings.

The slightly slanted media reports about the current Florida Covid situation may be troubling some. But even if there is a legitimate rise in cases and hospitalizations, that will be occurring among those who aren't taking adequate steps to protect themselves.
