Cases rising or dropping by you?

In my state, our hospitalized are almost at peak like spring- I checked our local stats site- in one day, 48 were discharged from hospital- but 39 deaths.:sad1: My state is small- these numbers are horrifying. And the 0-9 age group is rising so fast it's unbelievable. But the age groups of 20-65 are the real bad case numbers, apparently from about 70 on up,those folks are being careful and staying home.

All covid tests freak me out, so I am trying my best to avoid having to get one!!!
Well I would too :) :) but with my husband back in the office there's always a chance that he has to do quarantine (masks are required but still he's had a few almost quarantines since going back in August) and he would have to take a test after X many days and that would probably lead me to get a test as well.
I had the throat swab back in April. It was nothing - honestly.
With my allergies I think I would rather have the throat one if I couldn't do the saliva one as my nose is sensitive but the nasal one is still the predominant testing method but glad to hear the throat one wasn't too bad for you.

My child is in school all day, so we are always prepared to have to go get them.

I'll take saliva over the other options lol but I totally get the gross factor to actually spitting in a tube. Reminds me for whatever reason of the pet licking the dishes thread lol

Spitting in a tube is how you do the sample for 23andMe. It was kinda weird and I had to do it twice because there was some issue the first time.

I've had the nasal swab four times now. It's not pleasant, but it's also not that bad. Strep tests are worse, IMO (they make me gag every time).

The saliva tests are only accurate if the person has not had anything to eat or drink the hour before the test. If you even drink water it can give a false negative.

As teachers we can be tested every two weeks so that is what DH and I do. It's the nasal swab and not bad. DH's eyes water every time. For me as a swimmer I think it's just like getting a little water up your nose. Not a big deal.

Nothing is 100% accurate :)

Last weekend the Chiefs had 7 false positives!

Anywho more options the better and most are generally high enough accuracy.

Checked in with my mother earlier and she's a little shaken up after finding out that the HVAC guy that's been taking care of her furnace for several years hadn't gotten back with her for quite a while because he's lost his mother and grandfather to the virus and has an aunt who's critically ill from it and a sister who's having a rough go with it at home so far.

I rarely speak to anyone these days who doesn't have loved ones who have/had it, aren't waiting for a test or had it within the past six-ish weeks. Anecdotally comparing that to what I thought in March and April was a concerning amount of cases our area now seems to have an incredibly alarming amount of cases.

Another relatively good day in my state, but man am I getting frustrated with the reporting right now. Headline: Covid deaths highest since April 26. Third paragraph: 30 (out of 200+) of the deaths occurred in the past day. The rest were previous deaths added to the total after a review of medical records. That feels like an awful misrepresentation in this era of so many people getting most of their news from headlines on socials without clicking through to the article.

11K new cases in Ohio today, but we didn't break a record, so yay?

The governor is having a press conference but so far it's more of the same: please stay home, please wear a mask, etc.

So...my extended family got together for Thanksgiving. I FaceTime'd my mom from home and couldn't not believe it when I saw that they were all there, together. She passed the phone around so every could say hi to me, and the whole time I was just like 😖 I was led to believe that she wasn't going to go...as the phone was passed around I counted maybe 5-7 different households that were there.

Yesterday she told me she was going to get a COVID test...I wasn't sure why she was going to get one, but it turns out she was experiencing a headache and sore throat. She got the results today...want to guess what they were? 😐
Wanted to post an update about my mom. She got a message from her doctor's office and it turns out that her test result was a false positive - she doesn't have COVID-19. She still has a headache and sore throat, so it must be a cold?

Obviously I am relieved that she doesn't actually have it, but I took this opportunity to give her a piece of my mind about how Thanksgiving went, to tell her that I think she got lucky and then asked her to *please* re-think any plans she had for Christmas. We're so close to the vaccine being available (she's 65 so I'm thinking she'd be a phase 2 candidate)...just hold out for a bit longer. 🤦‍♀️

I am so glad to hear that you mom was actually negative. Hopefully she listens to what you said. Our moms are about the same age. Mine is 61. She is also a teacher so she will be in the phase 2 I think as well but might be able to get in phase one. I can't remember for sure. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I can't wait to see family again.

So glad she doesn't have Covid! How do they know if someone is a false positive? I've always wondered. You might not know either.

I don't know for sure but I think they retest them. I know that is what they did with our Governor when he tested positive with the rapid test they us. He got tested when the President came to town. He wasn't able to meet with because of testing positive. They did 2 or 3 more test over a week. This time they used the PCR tests. those all came back negative.
