Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

I had initially changed my resort (several times) away from the Poly for the trip I returned from a week ago because I was afraid it would mar my first time staying at my dream resort, but ultimately I checked out some recent videos and decided I could live with it and changed back. Other than a kinda lopsided mattress (felt like the pillow top was sliding off) - which could happen at any resort - I absolutely loved my stay.

I almost changed my birthday trip back to it, but there is that little part of me that is just afraid they would announce in like June that they are not opening on time - I arrive the day they are due to open - and I don’t want to be stuck with whatever is left at that point since it’s for my 50th birthday! So I am at the Riviera at this point. IF we were to get confirmation that the rooms will be opening on schedule (or even early) I very well might change back.
It’s hard isn’t it. We want what we want, However can’t always get it.

That said I have never had a bad trip. Value, mod, deluxe, wait for room at checkin, not the best view etc. in the end, the magic is there at will work out.
Hope it works out for you.

I’m good with Riviera. I got to explore a bit on my recent trip and I will be happy there!

The studios at RR look nice. Similar layout to Poly but with Murphy couch bed instead of pullout couch bed. I hope the Poly switches to the Murphy couch bed on their next full renovation.

2 questions...
If I decide to try to get a lake view studio, I know they are all in Moorea. Im staying end of April. Some people have commented the construction is not affecting them at the Villas bc the DVC rooms are away from it right now. If they move the construction over to those other longhouses, is Moorea still a good building to be that it may not affect us?
Also,
Does anyone one know if the Kiki splash play area work has begun? I kno website says it should be done in March, so just hoping by end of April its back to normal. We dont think the main volcano pool will be affected by the construction do we?

The 3 DVC buildings are all on one side of the resort (closest to the TTC). None of the regular buildings are in that area. The current construction is all isolated to the non-DVC longhouses. Construction should not impact the DVC Villas, other than potentially having to walk past a building under construction when going to the GCH.

The only rooms that would be at any risk of possible noise/construction visuals would be Tokelau on the Oasis Pool side, but even that seems like a minimal concern.

The work I've seen on the three longhouses on the other side of the resort seems to have been pretty quiet/unobtrusive/contained inside the buildings, for the most part. You do see some walls/scaffolding and such around the longhouse entrances and some general comings and goings, but I haven't seen anything that seems like non-stop noise. Granted it's a little easier to keep things contained on that side of the resort.

The longhouses they'll move to next are more central to the resort and may require more walls/construction walkways vs what we've seen so far, but TBD of course.

And yes, the Kiki Tiki splash pad work is underway.

Hope that helps!

It does thank you!

Hello! Excited for my family and I to finally be staying at the Poly in just 20 days- our first on property stay. I understand that we do not have to wear our masks when in the pool but are we required to wear them when lounging in the pool chairs? There are a few in my traveling party who would like to get some sun without a mask tan line. LOL. Any insight would really help us out!!

:thanks:

For anyone that has very recently stayed at Poly, were you able to get a Rise of the Resistance boarding group at 7am from your room? I just watched a youtube video of a couple that gave an update on construction & reviewed their recent stay. They mentioned both the wifi & data on their phones were slow at Poly?

I think it was 1/2 or 3, DS got BG 8 on his dinky wifi-only iPod while in the room. I was on AT&T cell service and he beat me.

As always - YMMV!

In room WiFi is often slow.
Data is going to vary by carrier. When we were in Disney in December, my phone was fine on data for ROtR, and my carrier is T mobile. My husband had terrible connection, and he runs on Sprint. Generally AT&T runs better than others.

To be honest, the WiFi is mediocre at best, in Disney. Before trying for a BG in Nov/Dec., I ran a speed test on Fast.com, and tested both the WiFi and LTE speeds, and went with whatever speed was faster. WiFi was better than LTE for me. Good luck! Hope you get one!

Ok so i wanna make sure I understand. The wifi was mediocre but still better than data? Did you get a boarding group from your room on the wifi even though it was mediocre? I guess Im wondering if I need to leave the room and be outside at 7 to get a BG. I have TMobile FWIW

Speed wise, (for me), Wifi was faster, but WiFi reliability is not so good in Disney. My phone never holds Disney WiFi. Always switches between WiFi and LTE!! It’s annoying, so I end up keeping it on LTE, especially when we are in the parks. I was not at Poly this trip, but right next door at GF, and got BG 8 (using Disney WiFi).
ETA: definitely run the speed test first, the one I mentioned above has been reliable for me. I have Verizon. Good luck!

It's going to be variable from person to person and situation to situation. For us at the Contemporary, data was faster and we got a BG. The best thing to do is about 20 minutes before BG run a speed test and see which one is running faster and go with that one. There's no hard and fast rule about which one to use, bc it changes.
I will say though that most people seem to go out onto balconies if using data. At the Contemporary you could hear everybody around you either celebrating or moaning depending on how it went.

Lol, when we were at CR end of Jan I finished my run around 6:40, and spent the next 15 minutes walking around the boat dock, pool, beach, deck area between CR/BLT running speed tests. I probably moved/adjusted my position like 5 times. I probably looked like a fool! :rotfl:

They’ve been putting in 5G towers around all the resorts. I wonder what kind of impact (if any) that will have when they fire those things up. I’m not a tech person so don’t even know if that kind of thing has an impact?
