No Masks Outdoors 5/15/21

My fear is actually the opposite.. My family will probably be ridiculed for wearing our masks during our July trip. We are all wearing for our son who is not yet eligible for vaccine.
I admire the ‘intent’ but I doubt in the end you will all wear a mask the same as if it were required. To quote Tyson ‘everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth’. In this case the punch would be coming from 95 degree humid weather. Not that you won’t wear one at all, I just think it will be too difficult when optional.

If you’re vaccinated, even that shouldn’t be a problem.
Regardless of vaccination status, all Guests are still required to properly wear masks in indoor locations, like restaurants and shops, as well as throughout attractions. Personal comfort level aside, those are the new rules. Anyone who doesn’t intend to comply shouldn’t intend to visit WDW at the current time. It’s really that simple.

Perhaps ppl shouldn’t have shamed anyone to start with & this wouldn’t be an issue. But, also, who cares?? Why would anyone care what anyone else thinks about what they’re wearing especially strangers you’ll never see again?
Two wrongs don’t make a right. And for what it’s worth, I’ve seen far more instances in FL over the last year of people being derided for wearing masks “unnecessarily” than people being scolded by strangers for not wearing one.

The poster you responded to never said their family would wear masks 100 percent of the time. I also will continue wearing my masks with my kids whenever it seems safer to do so. Maybe it's too difficult for you but not necessarily for everyone?

Being at the entrance of EPCOT right now is bringing a tear to my eye. So many happy families coming through the front gates, running to see Mickey and Minnie, maskless. There is light at the end of this tunnel.
Great example of the comments I like to read!! I look forward to seeing people smiling in WDW again...Missed that on our April trip and the smells of Disney too...

And it’s certainly not more difficult than it has been for the year and a half we’ve all been doing it…. Unless people were wearing them only if they saw somebody else with one to join the club and not at all for protection?

People care when kids are involved. When kids are old enough to hear and understand shaming comments - it matters. Me? I can brush it off. Who cares. But don’t talk like that with my kids around and make them feel uncomfortable.
Of course, then I would care, but are there really adults out there making fun of children wearing masks?

Of course, but the poster said this change was going to be a problem. Even if ppl don’t comply, if you’re vaccinated, it shouldn’t matter to you per the CDC recs. You should still be safe.
I have been in an area with pretty much 100% mask compliance so have not noticed any mask-shaming. I guess my point is ppl should have minded their business then as they should now. Who cares what someone else is doing. Worry about yourself!

I also think people who go with the intent of still wearing masks full time this summer, will also find themselves at least occasionally taking their masks off outdoors.

Someone posted a pic of Main Street USA with lots of smiling faces...that was enough to make me tear up! lol
I hope you have a great day. Enjoy a drink and a snack while walking around the world!!!

As long as indoor, queues and rides still require masks in WDW, I doubt there's going to be much if any mask shaming. Most people will probably just think you just got off a ride and hopping into the queue for the next ride and not bothering to take off the mask for those few minutes you don't have to wear it.

There is no advice or mandate to wear masks outside where I live, only in public indoor places like stores. Yet I see a lot of people walking outside in the shopping street wearing their masks and no one looks at them funny or shames them. People just assume they just exited a store and going into the next one, or just haven't bothered to take their mask off or whatever reason.

This is true. We never had to wear masks here outdoors & I never saw anyone making fun of anyone wearing outside.

I have a trip starting on May 26th and I am thrilled I can walk around Epcot with a drink in my hand.

This x100. I have been to Disney four times since reopening, and strolling around with a drink — be it a cocktail or beer, soft drink, or even a bottle of water — was what I missed the most. Followed closely by live entertainment, and hopefully more of that will be back soon too!

We get there Jun 28th, the festival at Epcot will be much more enjoyable now. Love those food tents.

So does this mean you can eat and drink while walking

I am certain some people can do things I can't. Did they say 100 percent - nope. Neither did I. I said wearing a mask as a sign of solidarity in the least desirable of times isn't as easy as when you are compelled to. I think it is admirable to want to not want to take any comfort that your kid won't have. Personally I have not been to Disney since COVID started, but yes I think it would be difficult for me and others (but not every person in the world) to wear a mask in 95 degrees when not required.

Everyone here was wrong.

That's the only true statement made about the whole last year and a half.

Until our son is fully vaccinated (got dose 1 today), we will continue to wear masks. I suspect we will wear them outside for our July trip too. Taking it off and on between transportation, attractions, food, and shops seems like a big hassle. Son and I wear behind the head masks for fit and less fogging with glasses. Anyone that wants to make fun of me or my family is perfectly welcome. They can't say anything that I haven't heard before. Also, I could give a rat's rear end about what others think. My son would probably just say that he feels sorry for anyone making fun of us, because they must really have low self-esteem to need to put others down. Do what you feel is necessary and to boo with everyone else.

I don't know if you are in the US or not, but things are much different here than Europe. Things even vary from city to city within the same state. We drove to Orlando from Texas in July and November. I had people asking me in the southern states why I was wearing a mask to use the restroom. We actually left Orlando early in November, because I was registering a temp. Luckily, it wasn't covid. However, if it had been, and I had been standing in line indoors for the bathroom shoulder-to-shoulder with people without a mask, I could have gotten some people sick. I didn't want to stop, but Texas-Orlando is a 16 hour drive, which I can't do without going to the bathroom. I waited in some of those lines for 10-15 minutes. I felt like telling people I had covid, and I was trying to protect them.
