I think dd is doing okay but the food situation sounds bad. Very limited selection, long lines, and they run out of food.

So is this a big deal all of the sudden? I know not comparing the same thing here, but I stopped in DD's school yesterday to drop something off and asked about the lunch menu since the district site has not put Sept's menu up yet and they generally do a week or two before the month... They said they won't be posting the menu at this time due to food shortages in hopes kids bring their own lunches or if they need to change it up. She gave me a paper copy but it only has three instead of five options per day.

Apparently it's a disaster at a lot of schools. Georgia Tech also brought dining in house this year so they are dealing with a transition, supply chain issues (cannot get enough food), and massive staff shortages. My best friend from college's daughter just started at UNC Wilmington and she also said it was a hot mess. GT seems to just have very few options (like everyone is having mahi mahi and pimento cheese rice for dinner) and some of the basic stuff they make like pasta is inedible.

Circling back to this. What is the policy if it was a 2 night reservation that was walked? The email the manager sent me said that my FNCs would be given back and they had set me up with accommodations at the new hotel. Exact wording. I thought that meant both nights were covered. Nowhere did the email say they only covered one night and I had to pay the 2nd night. And when I checked into 2nd hotel they didn’t mention it. I guess it makes sense they wouldn’t cover multiple nights but you think that would have been mentioned in the email somewhere. We only found out because we got locked out of our room while we were out today. The new manager was at first getting testy with us saying we couldn’t even retrieve our luggage without paying for the whole night. He then called the Marriott manager so we could both talk to her and I then asked her for my $100 lol. She said points and money would be sent to me later and the Marriott policy is to only cover one night. The new hotel manager was like I’m going to stop accepting their overflow because another room came in earlier and was arguing with the guy and not nice to him. We tried to be nice. He was appreciative that we were not hostile towards him but the Fairfield is definitely not communicating properly with what is expected of their walks. He said they requested 17 overflows this week and he wasn’t looking forward it. So is the policy only one night?

Replying again to say I tweeted Bonvoy and they say their policy is to only cover one night of a multi night reservation. Kind of sucks. I guess I was lucky to get a room. We were in the middle of seemed like nowhere New Mexico but there was an AFB there and I think the sudden overbooking had to do with that somehow. She just said some contractors terms were extended and needed their rooms longer. There was also a Hampton and a HIE and there’s seemed to booked up all of a sudden also. We were moved to a one off motel. Not the best but it was cheap and mostly clean. MyFNCs are back in my account but I don’t see any points yet.

DH has a CIP on which the annual fee just posted. I'd like to downgrade it. I'm leaning to the CIC to take advantage of staples gift card deals at 5x. It would be his only chase business card. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? This card would still keep his points, right? Even though it's nominally a cash card?

Yep. I love my CIC and Staples 5x :)

Next weekend is my trip to ATL for DD's 18th birthday. Ds isn't coming which is probably for the best. I changed my sw ticket so I'm arriving early on Saturday and leaving late Sunday (hopefully with better luck than last time).

I think dd is doing okay but the food situation sounds bad. Very limited selection, long lines, and they run out of food. So I want to make sure she gets some good meals. If any ATL peeps want to weigh in, that would be great.

My current plan is Atlanta Breakfast Club Saturday followed by a trip to Lenox Square. Dinner at the Ritz Carlton. Then a late breakfast at the Ritz Carlton on Sunday and a trip to the Yard Milkshake bar. We'll do an early dinner (Sunday is her birthday) before I head to the airport. I know she has at least one test the following week so I'm making sure she has time to herself to study or relax.

The food at my school was terrible, the meat things except for bad pizza which I stopped eating and deli sandwiches where the only meet things I could eat without getting sick. I had the opposite problem of thr freshman 15. I was eating a lot of grilled cheese, cheese quesadillas ans cereal. I didn't generally eat breakfast in college either. The 2 years I was in the dorms I had a 10 meal/week plan. I used all 10 once.

My stepdad was a truck driver and his route in college brought him outside Sacramento. So a few times I was able to get up early on a Sunday and go meet him for breakfast and to get stuff from home. After the first time mom started sending me food care packages. I lose weight in my face first and my clothes never got loose so I never noticed.

All this to say, especially bow vs over 20 years ago, there's a lot of stuff she could cook in the microwave if she has one in her room. I ate a lot of soup and mac and cheese. Even just having some good snacks would help. It sucks when you have a meal plan to have to do it but it would probably help until they get things sorted out.

Well poop. I had lowered that limit to 2K and I don't want to risk a hard pull for an increase.

I could give the CIU one more try maybe since I haven't applied for anything since May. They just don't like my apps for some reason.
I’d call and try to PC to the CIU and see what they say…also Do you have another chase business card you could move CL from

Questions for my mom. She hit her spend on the CSP and got the 100k URs (she did in branch, so she did get the 80 + 20). Part of her spend was $1400 for an AirBNB she's cancelling. She's gotten the points. She's going to keep spending on the card, so she's hopefully she'll be over the $4k spend, but if she's not, does Chase claw back? I've told her to run to OD/OM and grab some giftcards, LOL. I don't know exactly when her 90 days are up, and how close she'll be.

Gotta love that yesterday I took the kids (and BF) to Cedar Point. I warned them if I saw a FD I was stopping, and I did, LOL. The one closest to me always is at it's max when I show up to unload my VGC. So I was happy to find one I could unload $500. Only $300 more of the VGC that hate WM. For now I'm only going to do the OD/OM offers and get the ones WM does like and let me load $200/pop! Unless I know I'm going to be near a bunch of FD it's not worth it!

I just received my $2k AMEX credit for refinancing with Better Mortgage. We signed the papers on Aug 20 and the credit hit my account on Sept 2. A simple call is all that is needed to have them send the credit to your bank account. Very easy process if you have an AMEX and are thinking of refinancing.

I'm upset. My current lender offered me a better rate and Better is willing to match it. But my current lender won't give me the paperwork I need to get the rate matched! Going back and forth.....I think it's not worth it if I can't get the better rate.....IDK.

Yes--a friend suggested she get those barrila microwavable pasta pouches. She has a microwave and fridge in her room and on her floor there is a regular fridge, stove, micorowave, etc plus she can walk to two Publixes and a Target.. She'll sort this out but it definitely is frustrating given what meal plans cost. And I know a lot of stuff is so out of everyone's control right now.

I changed my CIU into a CIC for the 5%. It gets 5UR's at Staples/OD/OM.

It will hold his points but doesn't transfer like the CIP/CSR/CSP. So, if you foresee a need to do a transfer in the near future (to airlines, hotels) you might want to do that before you change it. That would be if you are sure that you are going to use the transferred points. I am keeping a few nights worth of points in my Hyatt account for summer use. I wouldn't personally transfer UR's to the other 2 hotel partners though.

Can I transfer the points to my csp before I downgrade the card?

not strictly CC related, but I am thinking of buying a new car. I know some of you have been able to put a few thousand on a credit card (seems to be highly dealership-dependent)... for those who've been successful, do you just ask at signing if you can do that?

And,

Has anyone bought a new car recently? Is this a terrible time (low supply) to do so, do you think? It's not critical to have a new one right now. I just paid off both motorcycles so gosh, I feel like I need another vehicle payment...

we put $2k on a card the last time we bought one, that was the max they allowed. They just ran a news story last night, that now is about the worst possible time to buy a new car. Low inventory, and few discounts because of supply issues.

Yes, I've bought a new car and a used car in the last two years and both times I just asked what the maximum I could put on a card with. Both were Honda dealers and I think it was $3,000 for one and $2,500 for the other.

And I would wait if you want negotiating power and don't have to buy now. But I guess wait how long is the question. These supply chain issues are just not seeming to improve.

If you can wait it's best to wait. If you're wanting something very particular, you'll want to wait. My friend needs to replace her van very soon. She's narrowed down to 2 vehicles she likes, worked out the features that are must haves (we are both very picky about what we want lol). She can not just go buy, must be ordered. One is not even taking orders, the other if she puts money down now she should have it early December. She had narrowed down to Atlas and Traverse, sounds like she's ordering the Traverse this week.

I bought 2 cars this year, LOL. Well bought one and leased one. I used a CC for the downpayment/first payment on both. I bought my 16yo a 2020 (new) Trax in March and then I flipped my lease in July (traded in early). I got great deals on both. But I am in like the "mecca" of buying new cars, LOL. My uncles worked for GM, so I got employee pricing on the Trax. I pulled a Chrysler discount (got it by asking on FB, lol....otherwise a former student was going to get me one) for the Jeep. I joke in SE MI everyone is in a new car every 2-3 years because we all have discounts or connections.

Inventories are low, but I guess I got lucky. And like I said, great deals on both. My DD's trax is $211/mo (we're buying it, 0%) and my Jeep is $388/mo (leasing 15k miles).

I agree with the others, if you can wait do, but be mindful that if it would come to the point you NEED a car you'll get what you get.

I ordered mine in April and got it in July. No incentives and paid what it was. But I also didn't want to have to need a car right now and be stuck with something I didn't want.

GM also shut their plants down again for 2 weeks cause of the semiconductor shortage. It's going to take awhile before inventory to buy and for rentals gets back to normal.

WWYD?

I have $2700 in taxes to pay. I am working on a MSR for the new IHG card I have. I've got about $1500 more to spend by 11/14. In other words, I will EASILY meet this spend. The fee to use a card is $74.

Does it make sense to use the IHG card and hit the spend? I'm sitting at 4/24. I am thinking of maybe trying the MDD next. I just got the IHG card in August, so I'm waiting a few till I apply for the CSR/CSP. Just adding this, as I don't have any other cards I'm looking at very soon. Hopefully I can had a MDD MSR to work on when I have to pay my winter taxes, LOL.

I have the CIU which gets the 1.5x. I'm thinking that doesn't make sense, as the points I get, don't offset the fee I have to pay.

Does it only make sense to use a CC when you're meeting a MSR? They charge for using a debit as well, so doing something like using VGC won't help me avoid the fees.
