I believe it takes 24 hours for it to post to your Mileage Plus account but it has been a while since I last transferred to United.
United experts..... I see a flight I'm interested in booking on the United site- can I transfer UR straight to a United account and then book on points, same as with SWA? Never tried this before except with SWA,which was really simple-thanks!

I did this last week, and the transfer was complete in less than 5 minutes.

Does anyone know if the VentureX has the purchase eraser or do you have to use the capital one travel portal?
With the original Venture you could go to southwest book a flight and then erase the purchase.

Even though the bonus has dropped from 100K miles the card is still interesting to me but Southwest is not available on the Capital One Travel Portal and that is why I am asking.

Thanks!!

Yes - purchase eraser works with the Venture X just like it does with the regular venture card. Not the best redemption value, but so so easy!

Awesome. Yea sometimes I will just book on southwest and don't have enough points there so this helps!!

thanks! So this is just a domestic flight, my DS is traveling, and comparing the UR cost of SWA vs United, it's equal, plus United has a better time etc. When booking on United with points, can you change,or cancel without penalty? I need to go research, I'm totally unfamiliar with them.

Major churning success for our trip last week:

Flights: Redeemed roundtrip flight of four with Southwest points and CP by applying to Biz Performance and SW Plus cards earlier this year
Hotel: Redeemed a five night Swan Reserve stay with Marriott points I collected throughout the years. Achieved Titanium status last year with visits and mattress runs. Cashed in SNAs to upgrade to a signature suite which was clutch with two little kids. Complimentary continental breakfast room service for two with Titanium in the mornings.
Park Tickets: Had over 200K Chase UR. Applied to a CIP and started buying Disney GCs at several Staples locations in my area. Purchased four 4-day park tickets. Used PYB to cancel out GC purchases and used GC towards tickets and concessions.

Spent under $1000 out of pocket for a five night stay at four parks!

Do banks do a hard inquiry on your credit when you open a checking account?

I received another bonus offer to open a checking account. My savings is making almost nothing in interest. So I am considering putting $1500 into this bank to earn the $400 bonus. I do want to keep my credit score as high as possible, though.

I have never had them do this. Sometimes they will use Chex Systems but that will not affect your credit score. It is an old system that was used for people that bounce checks and have overdrafts etc not for Credit Cards or loans.

Update: Marriott customer service finally reached out to me - via email, rather than phone - with a curt, short email telling me there is nothing they can do to override the system and allow a points booking.

Their app/website still lists the rooms as available as points bookings for my dates, and there are still rooms available as cash bookings.

I replied that they need to find a way to override it or transfer my 50k in transferred points back to UR.

Not optimistic.

😡
This might be a long shot, but have you thought about using p2's bonvoy account to try to make the booking? If it works you could transfer the points to p2 and make the ressie.

I had MAJOR issues with my personal Bonvoy account (I mostly use dh's) -- I couldn't access it online. I had a ticket open with Marriott IT for over 6 months (with regular f/u) before I finally opened a new Bonvoy account. Then I had them transfer the points to my new account and close the old one. I don't have any issues with the new one. It was a total PITA, but at least it's over with.

Reminder that the Hyatt category changes are coming March 22 and Bonvoy is going dynamic pricing March 29. I used these lists to figure out what I should get booked:
Hyatt
Bonvoy

What has everyone been booking? I used Cat 1-4 FNC to book the Hyatt Place Santa Cruz, which is going up to Cat 5. Booked the Park Hyatt New York, which is going up to Cat 8 (10k increase!). For Bonvoy, I booked a couple speculative dates for the Ritz Half Moon Bay, which is potentially going up 30k! Also booked the Vespera Pismo Beach with a 50k FNC, that's potentially going up 10k.

Hilton had an unannounced deval. More properties are 120k standard room now. Doesn't affect FNC though. No way to plan for those, but glad I got in on the Conrad Bora Bora when it was 89k.

It depends on the bank. I recently opened a Salem Five account because of a bonus and my application was automatically denied because my credit was frozen. I had to unfreeze and then apply again to get it opened. You should be able to search for datapoints about the bank you're interested in to find out if they'll pull your credit. Had I done this, I would have known to unfreeze first. Lesson learned. :)

This is really well done. Smart way to use PYB. The signature suites at the Swan Reserve look awesome. I'm sure it was a wonderful trip. Congrats on a luxury trip on just $1000!!

Here is my CIC experience for a DP.

I applied for my first Chase business card on Friday and received a thank you we will let you know as soon as possible reply. I called on Monday to see if they needed any additional information and was told that it had been approved on Sunday with a $4k CL. I asked if it was possible to have the delivery expedited. They requested the expedited delivery and said it should arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday. The card arrived this morning via UPS.

I have a personal Chase account. The CSR said after I create the business account I could call back and have the two accounts linked. I am trying to decide if it would be better to link the accounts or keep them separate. Does anyone have any pros or cons for either option? Thank you.

If Chase is your primary bank that you pay your credit card bills with then it is easier to have the personal and business accounts linked.

Congrats party:
I have kept mine separate, but others here combine…..since you now have to call Chase to transfer points from business to personal cards if you don’t have it set up already to me that would be a reason to combine accounts

Is it ever possible to get the RCHMB on the Marriott FNC? I haven't seen it for 50k but if it's possible I should look again. We have something booked for this summer with the FHR credit from 2021, but free is always a better deal.

Also, good for you for being so proactive with all of this. I have no idea where/when I want to go (afraid to even think about it and then have to cancel again) so our points are just going be worth less next month. :( Love the PHNYC! Have fun there. They have a really nice pool/gym setup.

Hyatt-
I extended our Key West Hyatt Centric stay next Jan for another night and booked 3 rooms at the Park Hyatt NYC for Mother's Day weekend for DM, SIL/DN, me (did GoH for the 2 rooms I'm not in!) since it will be Mom's first Mother's Day/Dad's birthday since he died. Sadly, that wiped out the majority of my Hyatt points.

Bonvoy-
I booked St Regis Maldives for next Feb/Mar...we'll see if it actually happens but figured why not? Availability was wide open and I was able to book an overwater bungalow and still have almost 200K points in my account remaining which will likely go to boring stays for in law and DD visits lol.

We are mostly set for this year. For 2023, we are tentatively planning a couple of trips to Central and South America. Costa Rica for Spring Break and Peru for the summer. So far it seems like our stays will be unaffected by the upcoming changes. Actually for Peru it would be nice to acquire some additional Marriott FNCs since those can be topped off. Our Marriott cards are up for renewal in October and I recall the FNC posted exactly on the anniversary, so that might be a card to consider for churning, but also hate to waste a slot on it. Maybe the Amex biz version once I'm eligible, if I am not in pop up territory by then.

Off the top of my head, I think you have always been able to cancel an United award without penalty. I have certainly done it a couple of times even before anyone had even heard of Covid.

......but as always, best to check on this before committing to anything.
