Do you display US flags or have red, white and blue out?

Nope. I know myself well enough to know I'm not going to follow flag etiquette and I refuse to become just another of the performative patriots I see all around feeling superior to those who don't "stand with their country". I'm also, frankly, not willing to lump myself in with the type of people who do wrap themselves in the US flag in my community (literally, at times - stars-and-stripes clothing being a huge thing around here) without giving a single thought to the ideas of respect or responsibility that should accompany the flying of the flag. Because my town, especially around patriotic holidays, is a veritable "what not to do" with the US flag according to flag code; people around me do everything from flying ideological/candidate (one in particular) flags above the US flag, flying desecrated versions that are contradictory to the meaning of the real thing, and of course, leaving their flags out 24/7 until they're flying patriotic rags.
Flag-patterned clothing is not a flag and is not subject to the flag code.

Yes I do. I do it because I love my country, I do it to thank my family members who have served, and all others who have as well. I do it to honor their sacrifices, including their lives to fight for and protect our freedoms and that of other countries around the world. Proudly flying my flag is the least I can do.

I have a 2 maybe 3 garden flags with it somewhere on the design and do bring them out over time. More people do big flags for sporting teams IME saving the flag for smaller ones or for other decor. In our neighborhood a large flag will be seen only on the flag pole attached to a house (per HOA rules no free standing poles allowed).

As of yet I don't get the vibe that there's some sort of hush hush factor with flags as in it means a specific political statement in our area. You're more likely to get someone riled up if you put a college or professional team them fightin' words lol. But yeah don't really live in a neighborhood where people get upset one way or another but I've heard more upsetness in other neighborhoods located elsewhere in my metro related to other flags though.

I fly one during patriotic holidays, and have a little one out most days. For Memorial Day I would like to start the poppy tradition in my own home.

I support remote sites at our work, and we fly the US flag all the time. I get notifications when flag is half-staffed, so whenever I'm away and see a flag at half-staff I always look up what happened to cause it. (I know - off-topic, but there you go.)

We bought our current house in 2007 and my father gave us a flag to mount on our front porch. We put it up and replaced in after 4-5 years. After that second one passed it’s prime, we didn’t replace it. In my town…we’re not alone. My gut tells me about 20% have flags out. So I just went down a street in my town, and there are 32 houses…and six flags. So a bit under 20%.

When I was a kid…flags were everywhere… not anymore.

I think when people say "when I was younger"..it does really depend on when that was such as the time period of our country.

For instance you probably saw a gap in high amount of flags flown..until 9/11 in which case that skyrocket for several years then dropped down again.

Depending on someone's age they could have been around for a longer period of high flag usage just due to the subsequent events over the time.

If I look at it that way people who flew the flag on a more frequent basis may have grown up during a time where that was full of events to necessitate that.

I also think we've broadened what we support in general, such that we have a variety of flags or ways to express our support for something that which may have been less prevalent years ago.

LOL. We are in a drought. But no, not a rainy area in normal years.
I know you are in a drought but that is not the question. You answered it, if it doesn't rain much guessing they may make the choice to lower it when it actually does.

It just rained for like 3 days straight last week in my area, it's been raining almost nonstop since last night in my area, and we broke a record for rain by a certain time of day. Sure by July and August it'll be dry but in spring it's usually pretty rainy. I don't think I've seen them lower the flags just for rain. We were under a tornado watch the other night, I'm not even sure someone done that then. And we've had like 3 days of high winds with a wind advisory. Then again I'm guessing that the cities here have purchased flags made of some tough stuff but I can't say I've seen them lowered anytime there's rain.

Slavery, basically.

Most Americans believe that America is a great nation, founded on idealistic principles, and that slavery was our greatest failure to live up to those principles. I believe this is the majority opinion among all political affiliations. But another group argues that slavery is so engrained in our founding that America itself is illegitimate at its core. Slavery and Jim Crow, they argue, were not failures to live up to our principles, they are our principles.

I don't think that's it....why some people don't fly the flag. Yes, slavery is our original sin, but we are cleaved in two.....hopelessly unable to agree on even the most basic of things....facts. And I believe flying the flag is also performative these days in some way...it's a become a signal, sadly. Freedom is a term that we talk about a lot, something we hold so dearly as Americans. It's what our forefathers fought, and in many cases died for. But, I believe we're going sideways a bit now...losing our footing on a slippery slope. And I'm not sure we have the fortitude to find our way back.

Not related to US flags as we live in the UK, but here it is very rare to see people fly flags at all. A few people do across my local area but it’s really something that people don’t do. We definitely don’t. That said, quite a few houses in my village have put out red white and blue bunting for the Queen’s jubilee this weekend! It feels strange to see such a show of patriotism! We would have put some up if we’d have been organised enough to buy some!
