Disney Changes Vaccination Requirement

CDC guidelines for cruise passengers recommend following the same protocols as traveling on public transportation. On the public transportation page, they recommend wearing a mask in all public areas. There is a note at the top that says the page is being reviewed for updates, but those are the current guidelines, anyway. No need to spread misinformation.

Seriously! Japan is being very silly now. I had a trip all planned out for the fall of 2020 and here we are two years later and they're still closed.

Summer in Japan is rough, though. It's so hot and humid, plus the rain in June/July!
Japan is amazing. I would go in a heartbeat. Not silly at all imo. I’d love to be in Japan.

I believe that NCL, Princess, Carnival, and Royal Caribbean are all allowing unvaccinated travelers with proof of a negative test. If I’m not mistaken, DCL is the only major US cruise line that will continue to deny boarding to any unvaccinated passengers over age 11.
Royal Caribbean is allowing unvaccinated on sailings from California, Louisiana and Texas after September 5th. Vaccinated do not need to test, unvaccinated do. Florida ports are still old policy.

Norwegian is allowing everyone, but all guests (12 and older), regardless of vaccination status will need to test within 72 hours.

Carnival allows everyone, does not require vaccinated to test. Unvaccinated needs to test.

Personally, I think they should drop testing requirements but still require everyone to be vaccinated. Covid has been spreading even with testing, and vaccinations remain the best way to lower the chance of severe illness onboard. If they do allow unvaccinated adults to travel eventually, I hope the testing protocol remains in place.

People aren’t happy with Disney these days. It just hasn’t caught up with them yet. In fairness they were the first and only ones to require vaccines for under 12’s…no one followed them.

No carnival and NCL required under 12 also just they didn’t jump as fast on it. NCL has been the second strictest but the first to make changes this time.

But now it’s only disney that has strict rules.

The risk of a severe outcome on board is so small though, especially on shorter cruises. And it’s not like if they remove the vax rules they are sailing 100% non vax cruises. The group the highest risk as the highest rate of vaccination.

Disney doesn't really care what you think, or what I think, or what anyone thinks. They will do whatever they can to get the most money while not opening themselves to litigation. If they act against CDC advice they are opening themselves up to potential lawsuits, that's all this whole thing is about. They are going to play the part for a bit longer for good measure and then it's all going away, much like it has in every sane person's life.

Personally, I think they should allow all unvaccinated people to sail with testing, and not set an arbitrary age limit of 11 for unvaccinated.

While I do agree with you that vaccinations provide protection against severe illness and death, although previous infection does provide this as well, that doesn’t explain having any children(12-17) or even younger adults having a vaccination requirement. Those ages are not statistically at risk.

They aren't even following CDC anymore, and they have since the beginning picked and choose what to follow anyway. Sorry, this is on Disney and Disney alone. Whatever reason they are doing it who knows, but they have to be aware that this current decision has not been a positive reaction.

I agree. This is clearly lawyers making COVID policy decisions for Disney Cruise Line. Their decisions are not based on science or the CDC.

Why are you not quoting everyone else on this thread that Disney doesn't care what they think? Everyone else is inputting their opinions, so I input mine.

Good to have confirmation I'm insane, though.

Not insane at all I know others who feel the same as you. Personally as someone who has a autoimmune disease. I’m fine with vaccines. If they drop tests I’ll jump for joy 🤩 🤣💯

I just do what’s best for me. With this moved cruises in August to February to hopefully to safer 💯

Sane persons life here. Good to know I’m sane. Got vaccinated boosted and cruises moved from August to February 2023 because it’s the right thing for me at this time 💯. No hopefully they remove testing by then, but I’d not I’ll enjoy

They are always the last ones to drop requirements, as seen in the parks. It’s definitely on Disney alone, I never meant to imply otherwise. I just believe it’s fear of a lawsuit that is driving it. I just want to book a cruise.

Denmark just banned the vaccinations for children under 18 - BANNED. Going forward, then only children under 18 who can get a vax will require a medical necessity. Whether DCL likes it or not, at this point they're fighting an uphill battle. Also, the 11th circuit court of appeals has yet to rule on the Florida law that doesn't allow cruises to discriminate against people based on vaccine status. Once they release the ruling, things will change quickly at least out of Florida.

And DCL most likely feels they are ok playing it safe. If Disney felt they were drowning in expenses, I am sure they would have taken a different approach. Disney isn't the ONLY cruise doing it. There is a reason Royal Caribbean has kept the same old policy for Florida Ports (their most popular ports). All Royal has is cruising, but obviously they had a reason to not change policy for Florida ports: whether it be because of Caribbean island rules or safety or whatever.

I think that most people are fine with individuals taking precautions based on their individual risks. Or even people taking precautions based on the fact that they are risk averse in general! My policy is “you do you”. What I think many people have an issue with is companies making decisions that not only don’t align with the CDC but don’t align with science in general. Or making arbitrary “red lines” whether that be age or vaccination status that don’t seem to have any rationale behind it.

I didn't know NCL and Carnival went that route too. Nice to see they dropped it.

That headline was actually very misleading with the word "banned." Denmark has been vaccinating that age group, they just won't make it standard going forward. However it is still available to that population for medical necessity, and it will continue to be possible to get vaccinated for non-medical reasons (such as travel).
