Disneyland Half Marathon 2024

I don't think the other DLHalf threads did this, and I didn't want to step on the Marathon thread's toes, so that's why I didn't do that. There was also some call in that thread about moving SAFD to its own thread, away from the MW talk.

I'm good either way, but I'll leave it to you guys.

Some of them did! I think in Tink we would do Fairy Fridays or something like that 😂. Was usually a question prompt of some sort.

Count 1 vote against SAFD. I find it difficult to scroll through all of the SAFD responses to get to actual questions, insights, and information about the race weekend. Sorry, I just think it belongs in it's own thread.
Thank you! There's a reason it's against forum policy. (In other forums with active moderators, those posts would just be deleted as off topic.) And it's so very easy to start (and follow, if you're interested) a SAFD thread. By volume, most posts in the MW threads are not about MW at all, making it a pain to follow.

I’m all for a weekly question as long as it’s DL based. I know NOTHING in regards to DL and their races so I would find it helpful. If all someone wants to do is click on these threads and get race only updates maybe this isn’t the place for you 🤷‍♀️ There are other social media sites that will do just that for you! That’s what makes the internet so great. If all that was posted was race info updates, this would be dead for months on end waiting for Disney to release something. This is a great thread to get to know other runners through chit chat and questions and keeps everyone excited over the long months until race day. I have made some GREAT friends with the chit chat and questions. I’ve even learned things through SAFD questions even though I’ve lived locally for 9 years.

I've yet to hear any downside to keeping a weekly question, sure, but in its own thread. Is the objection really just that interested people would have to subscribe to 2 threads instead of 1? It's true, this thread might be dead for months, but the other would still have the SAFD content, so the overall volume would be the same. And when actual MW news happens, it would stand out, where it belongs, in the MW thread. I can point out this forum's rule that says those posts don't belong in this thread, if you'd like.

If we're going to argue that SAFD shouldn't happen because it doesn't pertain strictly to race updates and info, that would also mean we shouldn't have costume updates, training updates, corny jokes and all the other posts that keep the thread alive and make the disboard rundisney forums special.

If I want news updates, I go to the rundisney site.

Well actually, one thing I agree on, the DL thread shouldn't have SAFD because that's so intertwined with the Marathon Weekend thread.

How about we either call it WAFD (Wednesday's Are For Disney), TAFD (Tuesday/Thursday's are for Disney) or SAFDL? (Saturday/Sunday's are for Disneyland)?

Arguments for or against any of the name options (or nominations of other ones!) could be this week's debate. :)

Personally, I vote WAFD. As someone who participates in both MW and this thread, I'd be nice to have a new topic to look forward to in the middle of the week as well as the weekend.

I wouldn't go that far. I think it makes perfect sense that anything race-weekend related is fair game for this thread, whether updates or questions, including costumes, training, best places for spectators, anything like that. It should be a community of people interested for any reason in the event, ready to provide answers, support, and camaraderie.

And I would subscribe to a SAFD thread if one existed. I just wouldn't have email updates turned on for it, like I would for a race weekend-focused thread.

I'm a Disney fan. "Which ride that no longer exists do you miss the most" is an interesting discussion topic. It just doesn't have any relation to the race event.

Of course, this current discussion I've been continuing isn't related to the event either, so apparently I'm just as guilty! ;-)

I don’t subscribe to any threads anywhere on the Dis. Maybe unsubscribe so your email isn’t cluttered or choose not to get emailed 🤷‍♀️ Unread threads are clearly bolded if there are new posts since your last visit. Maybe if you tried participating you might find you enjoy it!

A simple name change of the thread title could fix the rule you are so stuck on if “and general chit chat” is added. Anything DL, DL races, race weekend planning (flights, lodging, transportation, etc) or costumes for example seems on topic to me.

RunDisney has multiple platforms you can use if you don’t like the chit chat. Any news you find here is reposted from their social media and emails.

The SAFD questions sometimes has to go a little bit off the running path just because there aren't enough running related questions to fill 52 weeks. So, sometimes, the questions have to go a little more into general Disney. Like the CoP question this week.

Like a general question would be, for me, is how would a WDW vet tackle Disneyland, which is some place I've never been?

This sounds like the first WAFDL question to me :)

What would you do?

I got registered for the DL half on registration day. I was looking for Dumbo, but got shut out. I talked to a charity today and they don't have any Dumbo bibs (they literally got 5 of them total), but have a bunch of 10K bibs.

The priority for the trip is to experience Disneyland with running being an excuse to make the trip. My friend is doing her first half that weekend and isn't interested in doing the 10K.

Do I 1) be happy with "just" the half, 2) grab the 10K from the charity and hope that a Dumbo bib becomes available (knowing that is extremely unlikely), or 3) hope that I am lucky to grab a Dumbo bib on a random runDisney opening?

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Unless you really want to run the 10k and are okay very likely missing out on the challenge medal despite running the races for it, I wouldn't go the charity route. This seems like the least likely chance to get a DDD bib if they only got five.

I would say 1 and 3. Be happy with what you were able to get, but keep trying to get what you want. We've still got many months left to go so who knows what might pop up in the upcoming months.

This sounds like the first WAFDL question to me :)

The person running the MW2024 thread has spoken! :) So let's just try it, and see where this goes.

WAFDL (waffle!)

I've been to WDW 9 times total, including 8 in the 5 years. So I think I know how to get around there, and know where most things are. But the closest I've ever been to DL is Oakland. And that's like saying the closest someone has been to WDW is Atlanta (read: not close). So this would be basically two questions, pick one, depending on your situation:

1) For the people who have been to both DL and WDW: what should WDW vets who are DL newbies be looking out for? What can we do differently than someone going to any Disney park for the first time?

2) For the people who are new to DL: what activities interest you in and around Disneyland?

For me, I want to see how things are different between the rides at WDW and DL. I've heard Pirates in DL is better, Space Mountain's cars are much different. Galaxy's Edge is sitting just past Frontierland. What the heck is Critter Country? :) There's also all the different rides that DL and DCA have that don't exist in WDW. I also want to try a QS hamburger! I heard they're so much better in The Happiest Place on Earth than at The Most Magical Place on Earth.

And if the schedule works out, maybe see if there would be a Ducks game that I can sneak into. I almost snuck out a couple months ago to a Tampa Bay Lightning game, but I had an ADR that I couldn't shake off, and I wanted to do that more.

Everything...

I was set to go to Disneyland June 2020 and we all know how that went. I never got a chance to make it to Disneyland races. I am so excited to finally be doing both.

Its the OG park. I know its smaller but the charm is a draw. They also have so many attractions WDW doesn't or at least doesn't have anymore. WDW will always be home to me but I am excited for something new.

Hm I’m sort of in the middle, been to DL a couple of times so I have a bit of experience but not too much that I would know any tricks. A couple of things off the top of my head though:

- I see a lot of people say you should book 2 or even 3 days to experience DL and I’ll just say you can hit the highlights of both parks in one if you want. Obv you have to prioritize what you want out of the visit but it’s doable. If you’re a completist, want to see everything? 2-3 days.
- THE BLUE BAYOU RESTAURANT. I don’t know if it’s a crap restaurant but I love the idea of eating in Pirates, wish I knew before my first visit bc when we passed by and saw the tables I was like “THERES A RESTAURANT HERE??????” I imagine it’s going to be near impossible to get a reservation for race weekend.

Not DL related but the Uni backlot tour is really great, neat part of that park and wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did.

Smaller also means everything is closer together and able to be seen without long bus rides or other transfers between major parks. That’s my favorite thing about DL - how easy it is to see everything and walk everywhere.
