Disappointed

Me again. I know I made a plea for calm a few days back, and I realize I may be coming across as a pseudo-Jiminy Cricket by now, but I have another plea…

Please…PLEASE…think before you type

Think of what your end goal is. We have people that are really hurting right now. Dustin himself came on here, after relating his most recent discoveries to us (which he absolutely did not have to do), and he requested that we please focus our anger towards one person. He entrusted us with his own pain and anguish and has made a reasonable request. This man deserves peace. It has to start from somewhere

If you feel that the responses so far are inadequate or are off putting, make your decisions on spending with your wallet. If you feel like you want to know more information, I’m pretty sure every question in the book is out there. John has provided his e-mail for questions. Speculation is just that. People will come forward when they are ready.

Announcements will be forthcoming. That much has been said. There is a victim hurting out there right now who is being affected further by his friends being hurt. This does matter…a lot more than us needing to know everything right now. I know that everyone has the best of intentions and is trying to look out for others, but all of this could come at the expense of something else…and we don’t need any more damage right now

Just please…think before you type. Love to all❤️
I’m not going to give enablers a pass cause it “hurt” their feelings.

On the topic of media credentials, Len Testa posted this on another board last year:

The DIS' Dreams Unlimited is one of the 2 or 3 largest Disney-specific travel agencies in the world. They bring at least $25 million in business to Disney every year. And if you told me it was $40 million or $60 million or more, I'd believe it. They are enormous.

I spoke with Pete Werner when we started our travel agency, because I value his experience and counsel. And Pete will tell you exactly what he's thinking. I wanted to know how to deal with Disney. Pete's advice, which I'll paraphrase here, was "Generate enough revenue for them, and Disney won't care what you say about them."

So yeah, $25 to $60 million in business per year (plus a mandatory 10% increase year-over-year) buys you a lot of free speech. Credit Pete for everything he and his team did to get to that point.
Disney is not going to miss out on $60 million if DUT or any, heck all of the travel companies folded. People coming to Disney no matter what. The website as clunky as it is, is easy to book and you can still call in and they will book for you. Some travel agencies provided additional services such as on board credit for dcl and fantastic customer service (I got a great experience from a DUT agent, thanks Tracey!) but no one is going to not go to Disney because they cant find an agent. Disney probably would make more money as they don't need to pay out commission but then would need to spend on customer service,

As a DIS stock holder, the company has many problems and losing money on just about every front, the parks (and AbD, cruise line) are not amongst them. Disney the company is struggling right now at just about all fronts, last thing they need is something as horrible as this associated with them.

So I've been chatting with Pete Scheidle (who was discussed earlier in this thread and was on the DVC show for a little while). I've been trying to get him to come on and post. He said he's been following along with news but he doesn't really want to come back to the boards. I asked him if I could share this that he wrote to me:

"I just don't feel comfortable going back on there. My conflicts with Pete W were not of a severity of what's coming out from his employees, though he did treat me badly. But the part that really hurt me is he and the moderators actively worked to not just ban me from using the site but wipe me from existence there. I had made a lot of friends on the DISboards from 2007-2019 and was cut off, and it really hurt at the time. I know some folks have come back with accounts recently but I just don't see coming back and feeling like the Sword of Damocles is hanging over me waiting to fall. I have found a new Disney/DVC family and my focus is there."

I will say he's not hard to find. His website is also banned here so I won't try to mention that, but if you google Peter Scheidle you'll find where he podcasts and also his site. I know from talking to him, the dude only ever really wanted to help the community and wasn't in it for payday. From what he told me, He was never paid by the DIS and never asked to be.
Pete S is one of the friends I made on the boards and was lucky enough to meet in real life! The info on his site has been super helpful to us in planning two trips using DVC points now, and the fact that he was banned just for trying to share all of the tireless work he had done for the DVC community because PW is greedy is just ridiculous.

Completely understood. None of us should.

I am only asking that we consider a reasonable request right now. The extent of enabling can only be assumed on our part. There are a lot of facts and memories being processed right now. Off the cuff responses to us may not be initially correct, and then we could be led to believe that there was dishonesty where none was intended.

Emotions are high. Time has been requested. It is not unreasonable

Sorry to hear that he won't return but I get it. The way some people have been erased from history here is problematic and the people who carried out those actions should be ashamed of themselves.

I really hope as part of "the new way forward" the extreme use of filters here is reexamined. It hurts the community to not be able to talk about websites like Pete Scheidle's as it contains valuable information.

That's the one. Before they changed sponsors, the content seemed like a genuine discussion of DVC and the resorts and it was how we first learned of and ended up joining DVC. If we started watching now, we probably would've never bought because their shows now comes across as more advertising and informercials for the resale market.
Agree 100%. The last few episodes prior to this week were extremely sales pitchy and that needs to be corrected. Going back to the episodes a couple years ago it seemed like Jerry couldn't care less if you bought DVC, he just wanted to share info on it.

This week's episode lacked the sales pitch issue but had a whole host of other issues... but I'm an Engineer so people excluding data from their calculations will always bother me. :lmao:

I wonder if Pete's divestiture of his considerable number of DVC points will flood the resale market and create a DVC buyers market.

Certainly, paying off his Monera loans will create quite a dent in that company's revenue.*

Ripple effect and all that. 😊

*Yes, I know those loans are subsequently sold to lenders.

Ironically, I started reading this stuff right before a doc appointment Tuesday morning. My blood pressure was through the roof. I tried to explain, but my doc was still concerned. So now I have to check it and go back to have them check it. Hopefully it is just due to this.

They use conscious sedation for colonoscopies. I’ve had 3. The feeling is really strange, surreal, and dream like, if you actually remember anything from the procedure.

This is so disgusting😭 People can be such garbage.
what...? are you saying I was actually awake during my colonoscopy? Please no!

This is what got me turned off completely. I fully understand that WODVC was/is the primary sponsor for DVC Fan, but when you have a room filled with people who have skin in the game, including a panel entirely populated by WODVC employees, a producer (Panda for a time) who owns DVC, and a host who is not only up to his eyeballs in DVC points, but knows exactly where to cash comes from, the objectivity of the discussion falls off the table.

I think the final straw for me was a show, shortly after the DL tower went on sale and DVC really started pushing the whole Magical Beginnings program. Kathy was on there, arguing that buying resale (through DVC Resale Market) and then renting your points (through DVC Rental Store) was still a much better proposition. She conveniently failed to mention that DVC is giving you $22 per point, whereas Rental Store had just reduced their payouts down to $12 or $14 per point, or that if you bought the right UY, you could sell back your "prior" UY points to DVC, and still get your "current" UY points, so the Magical Beginnings rebate really is free money.

Obviously, that still wouldn't make a direct contact equal in cost to a resale one, but it certainly closed the gap much further than she would want you to believe (and again, I get that the whole point of the show is to be an infomercial, but that was pushing it too far). It was just too much used car salesman for me

I think it varies. I was definitely out, but it was not as deep anesthesia as surgery is. Came to much faster and without all the after effects.

OR was I? Hmmm.

Holy cow. It is so creepy to think I have no memory of what I did but could have responded in some way.

First, it will be helpful to define the various levels of sedation that are possible.

  • None. That means that no medications are given. ‘Nuf said. Very few people choose this option.
  • Light sedation. This is just what it sounds like. Although one is sleepy, the patient can still respond to verbal commands and can feel pain. There is no effect on breathing or cardiovascular function.
  • Moderate sedation (also called Conscious Sedation). This is a little deeper than light sedation, yet the patient can respond purposefully to verbal or physical stimulation. There is usually little or no effect on ventilation or cardiovascular function (low risk). Most patients will have no memory of the procedure while under moderate sedation.
  • Deep sedation. This is deeper still, and patients will respond to repeated painful stimulation, but usually non-purposefully. Breathing may be impaired, as may cardiovascular function. The patient will have no memory of what happened while under deep sedation (amnesia).
  • General anesthesia. In this case, the patient does not respond to painful stimulation at all. Breathing is usually impaired, and airways support and ventilation are usually needed (e.g., a tube placed in the lungs and a ventilator machine providing air). Cardiovascular function may be impaired as well.

At this point shouldn’t we all just start directing our energy towards Disney & wait to see what they do?

Not to go too far down that (figurative) rabbit hole, but I had the first general anesthesia surgery in my life earlier this year at 58 years of age. I have been fortunate enough that screening tests have allowed me to avoid getting scoped, but after that surgery I'd rather avoid going under any more times than absolutely necessary.

IMO: I think if the team wants to keep going, they are going to have to rebrand across the board, even change the name of the business. There is just too much bad history here.

Coming soon: The NEY Boards and NEYUnplugged podcast

Or perhaps, and I am just throwing this out there … maybe a Women’s Shelter needs some help, a community drug rehabilitation program, local church, a mental health assistance network, or maybe check in on a family member that’s been disconnected for a while.

Lots of hurting people out there that could use time, energy, and resource especially with a lot of expertise and experience being represented on these threads. Perhaps, a good way to respect those indirectly/directly involved in this situation as they also decide their next steps and let us know what they actually need.

I know DVC is a lot of "depends on your situation" but you were describing a situation where it is almost blatantly a slam dunk yet they still pushed that angle. A lot of people disagree with me on my take on what is currently the "best" value if you are a new buyer or a returning buyer but that episode you are referencing was the worst....until the latest one where they are trying to convince you break even with financing is like 7 years. Just don't include dues!

Currently the best value is to not buy a DVC period.
