Disappointed

Or perhaps, and I am just throwing this out there … maybe a Women’s Shelter needs some help, a community drug rehabilitation program, local church, a mental health assistance network, or maybe check in on a family member that’s been disconnected for a while.

Lots of hurting people out there that could use time, energy, and resource especially with a lot of expertise and experience being represented on these threads. Perhaps, a good way to respect those indirectly/directly involved in this situation as they also decide their next steps and let us know what they actually need.
Perhaps I should have expanded my comments. I was implying that we should stop with wasting energy on further speculation in regards to what’s happening.

At the end of the Day it’s Disney is who is ultimately in control of deciding if they want to continue the relationship. They are the ones who have the ability to really deep dive and decide if there’s merits to keep the relationship or not.

I know DVC is a lot of "depends on your situation" but you were describing a situation where it is almost blatantly a slam dunk yet they still pushed that angle. A lot of people disagree with me on my take on what is currently the "best" value if you are a new buyer or a returning buyer but that episode you are referencing was the worst....until the latest one where they are trying to convince you break even with financing is like 7 years. Just don't include dues!
Another fallacy is that they were using the rack rates for those villas. I never would’ve paid those rack rates. Comparing to value/moderate rates (or even rental prices) would’ve been more realistic to me.

I forgot to mention that there was also no mention of the fact that the rental income through DVC Rental store is, in the broadest terms, taxable income (I know there are exceptions and calculations, but in general terms), whereas the DVC direct contract clearly defines Magical Beginnings as a "rebate" and therefore non-taxable (even if they do issue you a check after closing).

Why do you suggest this? What is their responsibility here? (I know I can't accurately express my tone in this message, but I am not arguing with you; I want to know your reasoning.)
I think we’re wasting a lot of energy speculating about what’s happened or what’s going on. At the end of the day I think Disney really holds the power in deciding the future of the travel agency and the DIS. We will have to just wait quietly and see if they decide to keep it or not. If they don’t then that’s the answer

what...? are you saying I was actually awake during my colonoscopy? Please no!
I remember running my mouth and talking about this and that while the anesthesia was taking effect. I don't remember anything after that. I always wonder what I was doing during a colonoscopy if I wasn't really sleeping. Was I looking around the room? Was I talking about my last trip to WDW? What was I doing?

I think the final straw for me was a show, shortly after the DL tower went on sale and DVC really started pushing the whole Magical Beginnings program. Kathy was on there, arguing that buying resale (through DVC Resale Market) and then renting your points (through DVC Rental Store) was still a much better proposition. She conveniently failed to mention that DVC is giving you $22 per point, whereas Rental Store had just reduced their payouts down to $12 or $14 per point, or that if you bought the right UY, you could sell back your "prior" UY points to DVC, and still get your "current" UY points, so the Magical Beginnings rebate really is free money.

Obviously, that still wouldn't make a direct contact equal in cost to a resale one, but it certainly closed the gap much further than she would want you to believe (and again, I get that the whole point of the show is to be an infomercial, but that was pushing it too far). It was just too much used car salesman for me
I found that entire segment to be incredibly cringey and misleading. They were trying to explain why purchasing resale was still better than purchasing direct, and were also using numbers that were designed to make resale look as attractive as possible. I lost a lot of respect for the entire show and team to be honest, but then again, it is just a business and they are trying to make World of DVC happy in their sponsorship, which has been reported as being a significant $15,000 per month and much higher than the previous sponsor. Maybe my expectations were too high.

This whole mess is sad and disturbing. I joined the Disboards in 2002 where I discovered the Swan/Dolphin thread. I haven’t been on the boards for quite some time. Through there I became “friends” with several posters. I even met a few of them in person. Great people! We had fun posting and giving advice on the S/D to other posters. Such a sad time for all posters of the Dis boards.

At this point shouldn’t we all just start directing our energy towards Disney & wait to see what they do?

Disney? Disney does nothing here. This isn't out in the general population and the fact is while Pete W. was a big fish in the Disney pond that didn't make him national news. Disney at most bans him from the parks but likely not even that - probably just pulls any press credentials. As long as it doesn't blow up publicly I don't think they cut off Dreams either, they are a big source of revenue.

I am not sure the DIS podcast can survive this though - as I suspect a lot of THAT group of listeners will know about it.

Any word on what's going on at the meetup? I would love someone to post as a fly on the wall as to what is happening.

I thought it was the best nap of my life. I woke up refreshed and felt great.

This is true, but Charles has said Pete told him about it. Others on the team have commented about how abusive the work environment was and Tyler has straight up said in his opinion Dreams enabled Pete to do what he did.

I think many here are finding it difficult to believe that the team didn't at least know Pete ran a horrible and abusive work environment even if they didn't know anything criminal was going on. And for many that's enough to want to no longer support Dreams as a company, and that sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

I think it's more that a lot of people here feel like people are blaming people who were also victims of that horrible and abusive environment.

Moving back on topic, I kind of want to assess what has happened in the past few days. As a community, do we feel we have made an impact in our support for the victims? What now can be done to continue to support the victims? I'm more than happy to direct my rage at Pete Werner, but what is the best way to focus it that will have any kind of penalty for him? I want to help Sean and Dustin and I want to know the best way to directly help them.

How do you know people are not already doing these things? It doesn't have to be an "either/or," it can be a "both/and." Trauma is trauma, and there's a lot of it around now, including secondary trauma and vicarious trauma (in addition to primary trauma). As I learned in a training there are no trauma Olympics. People should be allowed to feel what they are feeling; we don't need to redirect them because somehow others out there have it worse. It's not really any of our places to say one type of trauma/struggle is more deserving of energy than another.

Not to say those areas you noted aren't all deserving of our help, but you assume that people aren't already putting attention on them, and suggesting that what's been expressed here isn't as deserving as people in those situations. It can be a both/and-people can feel their feelings here and also give attention to those other areas (if they choose).

How in the world did this thread move to colonoscopies and conscious sedation?! 🤣 (I've read through this whole thread and I cannot for the life of me remember how it started . . .)
it started w a legitimate comparison relative to Dustin’s drugging to help explain how someone could be drugged and remember nothing. I think then some of us needed a little levity break from this darkness …

My therapist said this week that trauma is anything that happens to you that you do not have the skills to process. Not the victim's fault, just either because you were never taught those skills, or the thing was so unimaginable to you that of course you'd have had no reason to have those skills in the first place, or the processing skills for that thing just can't be taught. I thought it was an interesting take on it, and a subtle reminder of the impressive and lifelong/ongoing personal work that trauma survivors have to put in just TO survive and move through their trauma.
