AAA to Code

If I book a room only AAA discount now, can I convert to a code (if one comes out) later? Will I have to do a new reservations, or will they just change my current one?

They will apply your code to the current reservation, you don't have to book new.

Be careful if you booked a package of any type through AAA though. I did-Last August for May 2003 and when the codes came out we weren't able to use any of them (I specifically asked my AAA TA "Disney Specialist" this question back in August and she assured me it would be no problem but when it actually came time to do anything about we couldn't make the change (she did try at least a dozen times with various codes and nothing came out less than what we already had).

We book a room only ressie thru CRO, then call and apply AAA discount when available, then call back and apply codes when they come out. Didn't have a problem doing this in the past.

vicb, that is interesting because I was told only a AAA travel agent can book the room at the AAA rate, even if its 'room only'. It happened to me during my very first trip to WDW and I was so naive. I could cry when I think of the rates I paid for the room and airfare through AAA. When I later tried to apply the AP rate to the room, I was told I could not. My room and airfare were a package deal, so I am assuming that was the reason.

MEM, I think you are right about the AAA pkg. deals, we did that several years ago too and also felt ripped off once we found this board! But I believe it is still true (we did this one year ago and planned to do it again for our upcoming trip) that you can book a room only ressie thru CRO at rack rate then call to apply a AAA rate when they come out (usually late summer for the upcoming year), then later you can call and apply a code or AP if they come available. But pkgs. thru AAA can not be further discounted.

Maybe someone else who knows more can help us out.

As late as November 2002 I know for a fact that you could receive AAA "room only" discounts via CRO. I did it for our Jan 2003 stay.

And just to add: We were unable to book a AAA pkg directly. We had to go through a AAA TA-there is a special number (much like the DC #)-You can however, book a room only with the AAA rate. I did try calling myself 2x (because I didn't believe the first CM) and both times they told me that did not have access to AAA packages.

I just booked yesterday thru CRO with a AAA rate for late Nov./early Dec. The rate actually seemed a little better this year, but I don't know what it was exactly last year since we later ended up using a code. This year it was $118/night including tax for a mod.

Spartan, did you just call CRO, tell them you are a AAA member and then they gave you what the room discount is? Or did you have to know what the AAA discount was beforehand? I am glad to hear this can be done, because as I posted before, my AAA "Disney expert" was a fraud.

CRO will never volunteer discounts. You have to ask the questions or know the existence of the codes in advance. You'll need to ask "Are there any AAA discounts available for those dates?" Once you ask that, they'll open up with all the AAA discount info.

I realize they won't "volunteer" discounts and didn't mean to imply they would! My question was would CRO know what the AAA discount IS when you ask them or does the AAA member need to know in advance what to expect for a discount? I'm talking either percentage or dollars. Since one is not going through a AAA agent, it would help to be informed. Knowledge is power, as we have learned from each other on this board...

MEM,

I first checked availability on the dates I wanted, and once he told me rooms were available, I asked if there were AAA discounts available. I know they block off a certain amount for these discounts, so it is possible that not all would be available at the discount. They don't ask for a AAA member number, but you should have it available when you check in.

Something else I learned last year was that because we didn't decide on a date until much closer to the time we wanted to go, there were no AAA rates available - or so I thought. It turns out there were no discounts available for the entire stay of our trip. We checked in on a Saturday, and it turns out only Saturday wasn't available. When I checked for just Sun - Friday, there were discounts. I ended up having to make 2 separate reservations - one for Sat. at normal rates, and one for the rest of our trip at the AAA rate.

MEM,

Re-reading your question - I don't think I really answered it.

AAA is a percentage discount, and I think it also matters which class of resort you're staying at, but I'm not completely sure on that. I didn't ask about what the discount was because at this point I figure any discount is better than none, and I didn't want to chance missing out on at least a AAA discount in case no codes end up coming out later this year, especially since we're checking in on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, and I didn't want to have to separate the reservations like last year if I didn't have to.

Last year I made our ressie at rack rate and asked when AAA discounts would come out, I was told by CRO late summer. But people here on these boards said to keep calling and checking and sure enough they opened up in mid-July (we were going in Feb). I think mousesavers.com has more info on the % of discount, it is different for different seasons and level of resort (value, mod., deluxe) as Spartan stated.

My original ressie were at the AAA rate with CRO, we have since changed them to a lower code without a problem.

When I called CRO I said we were AAA members and I also had codes. She checked both rates and my rate with the code was better so she used that rate. Then when new codes came out I was able to apply that code. This was in Feb. so I know you could still get AAA code through CRO at that time.

I need some info...

I upgraded to WL from POFQ because of the closing...can you use a code after making the up-grade? Will they refund the difference or give a better room..etc..?

How do I find or use codes? I am going in June. I am a AAA member.

Thanks...

I booked room only AAA discount though CRO last month for our Dec. trip. I asked then if there were any better discounts out for that room. He checked and said not at this time. I did not expect any but will be watching late summer for a code. In fact the plan and hope is to change not only the discount but the resort aslo if
i get a good code on a deluxe.
