Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I can sympathize with people not wanting their kids to hear much “bad” language before they’re old enough to choose their own words rather than simply repeat them.

That said, the only “rights” in the situation are for them to speak, and for you to speak a reminder that there’s children present or a request they stop. There’s no “right” to not hear something you consider offensive, because that’s entirely in the eye of the beholder.
I grew up with a friend whose mom viewed the word crap as a curse word along with darn it, or dang-it was difficult for me honestly because those were not curse words in my family. Those were appropriate alternatives to curse words lol.

Profanity is something that people of all ages have issues with or don't have issues with. My husband's step-sister (no longer by marriage though not by blood in the first place), her husband and her brother all have zero issues cursing up a storm with their kids around. My family, who is not really a prim and proper type family, was shocked the first time they heard a curse word out of me (and it slipped out because I know they don't really curse). Aside from my 2 cousins (age 19 and 14) who weren't even there I was the youngest person there (aged 30 at that time). One time I was at a bar (where no one under the age of 21 was allowed admittence after X time) and I said a mild curse word at my table. This family glared at me with daggers in their eyes...they were in the bar after the time that kids were no longer allowed in--you could stay if you were there but no one under the age of 21 was allowed in after X time. I'm sure in their minds they were like "oh but the children". I didn't even see the children and it was adult time by that point so..

With the gondolas I wouldn't intervene. I would speak with my children afterwards but it's not something I would make something of it out and I'm not one to shy normally away from confrontation (I do know when it's not the time nor the place though). And like my above story sometimes people's definition of profanity varies though yes I do think there are a few words majority agree are considered profanity.

That's true - but I also have the right to not have to be subjected to that inappropriate and unacceptable behavior
There are so many things that I have the right to, that are denied to me by the reality of how the world is today. I can either let it affect me or not - my choice.

and have the right to speak up
Certainly, if you think that'll make your family vacation better.

I agree with your point on a logical level, but on the practical side, one never knows whether this action might incite a veritable thunderstorm of similar words hurled in your direction. So instead of hearing one word, you now are subjected to way more than you bargained for. You never know how strangers will react to being "scolded" in public.

But returning to the gondola topic, if one can ride monorails, boats and buses without encountering too many problems, I expect we will be able to ride the skyliner with similar results.

It's not just my kids - I don't want to be around it myself either

And Disney policies for being on Walt Disney World Property (not just in the parks but on property) state "Please show common courtesy to fellow guests and our Cast Members by refraining from using profanity" so it isn't really in their rights to use it on property. And I think good to show my kids to speak up for what you believe in

As I've said a few times, I don't think it is a huge deal but yeah, if my fellow passengers are cursing up a storm, I will say something - I have in the past in similar situations

Well if it is one word that slips I won't say anything but I'd they are cursing up a storm I will likely speak up - it is against Disney policies which I might mention or something but more likely just ask politely

I really don't think it will be much of an issue but at the same time it isn't ok to use profanity on Disney property so I am not going to ask like it is

Yup - and things that are withing or against the policies of where you are at (which use of profanity is against Disney's guidelines). If it is one word or something no big deal but I feel it isn't right to use profanity around people who don't want to hear it and speak up when I encounter it and not doing so would negatively impact my vacation if it was really bad

Again, I really don't think it will be a big deal but also not going to pretend it is ok

I still think you need to reframe in your mind what is a “right” and what isn’t.

It is in their rights to use profanity on property, Disney is asking politely that they don’t. And that’s fine, common courtesy and all.

Fine maybe wrong word.... clearly we disagree on the topic and clearly I have derailed the conversation so let's move on

We have had an experience when someone was dropping a ton of f-bombs while talking on the phone in line. He was a couple of people behind us and people kept asking him to stop talking like that because of the children and he told them to f-off. Some one went and got a cast member and security had to come and escort him out.

More video from Rob at Passport to the Parks

Interesting that he says he sees them stopping not just slowing down as they go through. Wonder if that is everyone has moments of stopping or more than the CMS will have ability to stop them while off the cable

If every one stops then I can see that making this leg of travel quite a bit longer than perhaps we thought as you have the slowdown at the Boardwalk Parking Lot turn and then slowdown and stop here as well

I don't see any cabins stopping in the video. Remember that Rob is prone to make statements based on his own view, which is not always accurate.

You're viewing the station from a distance, and on the Epcot side they're moving away from you at a high angle relative to your plane of view, which makes movement difficult to discern. If you focus on the pillars at the entrance to the station, you can see the cabins are moving very slowly past it.

The cabins are so close together in the station that there's no way to stop a single cabin without stopping all of them. And unless I'm missing something in my logic, cabins everywhere on the line need to be at the same time interval apart (someone please educate me if I'm wrong about that.)

Time to pass thru the BW turn station is only about 35 seconds. The cabins slow down, but not as much as they do through a load station. So that's probably only adding about 25 seconds to the trip time. And it's less on the inside of the curve.

I thought I heard him say he saw them stopped but maybe I misheard/misinterpreted

If they don't stop I wonder how they handle ECVs there then

He did say it, but things he says aren't always accurate. I think he thought they were stopping, when they were actually moving slowly.

There's been some discussion on another site about ecv handling, and it remains unresolved. A poster said he was on the team and that there's a procedure in the Operating Guide, but he was prohibited from sharing.
