DL Dress Code

I was at DL a few days ago. Now granted it was a pretty warm day, but something caught my attention that I wanted to ask...has anyone else noticed that a lot of people were wearing very thin or revealing clothing?
While I was waiting near the Carrousel, thats where I saw the majority of it but it was consistent throughout the day: a lot of see through yoga pants (men and women), women with tshirts only and no bras, and teenagers in really short shorts and the occisional booty shorts. Do or can CMs say anything to guests about this issue or is this just the new norm now?

Are you a DL regular?

Because it's California. In August. If bikini tops weren't against the dress code, you'd see those too.

But, uh, yoga pants are practically a uniform on the west coast. And I'd like to see a CM try to tell a woman to wear a bra. That would Not End Well.:rolleyes1

Actually, we saw quite a few women in just bikini tops, with their T-shirts tied around their waists last week. I figured a CM would see them eventually and ask them to put their shirts back on, but I don't know if it actually happened or not.

Do you live in southern California? I'm guessing not. Bralets are a thing. So are crop tops and see-through shirts. Yoga pants are acceptable attire for anything less than a michelin star restaurant. Short shorts, too. It's southern California in August. I've lived in So Cal for almost my entire life. It's culturally acceptable. While I don't think I would ever be so bold as to wear certain things, they aren't considered inappropriate unless you're straight-up wearing just a bra or bikini bottoms.

I think people dress like that everywhere in southern California. It's just normal clothing for summer.

Yep.

And there has been a huge dance convention in Long Beach (we've been at it because my son dances), and the girls just dress like that. Many of them could easily have gone to Anaheim as a break from the convention.

Agreed, I've lived here my whole life and that's just how we dress around here. Of course you should always dress for yourself and your body type , not for anyone else's comfort anywhoo.

I'm originally from LA, but I've only recently started settling back in LA for the last few months.

I've been living in Europe for 12 years and in AZ for the past 2. In that timespan, I've visities Euro Disney more than DL. In fact, this was actually my first time going to DL during the summer (seriously).
When I was in the AF, I only had one summer vacation my entire career. I dreaded summer to no end!! While everyone else on base was able to go on vacation during the summer, we (me and my co-workers) weren't able to because of our job. Summer always meant long hours for projects, construction escorts, and/or maintenance.

Winter was what I always looked forward to! By then everything was completed and we were finally able to go on vacation. So in this timeframe, I've only visited DL 3 times and Euro Disney 6-7 times all during the winter (okay maybe 1 spring time visit to Euro Disney).

To settle back, I took my family to DL to celebrate our accomplishments in life. Since we couldn't get our military discount tickets, we opted for the Prem AP.

So I might be a little out of touch with So. Cal dress culture but I'll get back to it, and its still weird not having a jacket or sweater in July and August (go to the UK, Germany, and France and you'll see what I mean).

And the yoga pants more recently has sheer parts to it but it only shows your leg not your butt of private parts. Typical CA attire. I live in Northern CA and its like that here as well.

Op, I think it is just going to take awhile to readjust to living in the US again. We lived in Italy for several years and there is just a different style of dress that is considered acceptable, especially for places like restaurants. Really, even across different states you'll find different styles of clothing acceptable. You'll get used to it.

It can be pretty eye-opening if you're from somewhere where the people don't dress like that ... I could have sworn I saw a woman last year who really WAS wearing a bra and underwear!

Obviously people can wear what they like, but I feel the same way about those who walk around DL subjecting others to the sight of half their booty hanging out of their shorts that I do about the people who don't use deodorant for days on end and subject people to smell of their BO. Sure, it may be natural, but there are things that really don't need to be imposed on others who have the misfortune to walk behind you. And I include the guys who for some reason think everyone wants to see half their underwear in that group as well. Dude, I do NOT need to see your underwear hanging off your backside!

It's not a moral issue at all, but I do think it's bad manners.

Um, no, because lack of deodorant impacts other people a whole lot more than the sight of girls in short shorts.

A theme park isn't exactly a high class place. It's pretty much the equivalent of a mall or beach. I don't know how you survive CA in general if the mere sight of skin bothers you so much.

I don't know how they do it though, because sunburn prevents me from wearing even a tank top.

Welcome to California!

Has anyone been a college campus or at a summer camp in a state other than CA? I promise you that there's nothing unique to CA about short shorts, thin leggings or bare midriffs.

I don't mind short shorts. I wore plenty of them back in the day and my kids wear them as well. Certainly there's a need to keep cool in CA and elsewhere. But there's a difference between short shorts and half of someone's booty cheek hanging out for all to see.

I just think it's funny that some people evidently have such a high opinion of their own derrieres to think every stranger from 3 to 83 they happen to encounter needs to take a look at it. :)

I've visited Marquette University, Norte Dame, and Brown...they have strict dress codes for everyone.

I've been to Notre Dame. I can't say I saw short shorts outside the chapel, but walk through a tailgate behind the chapel and you'll see plenty of skin. I've been to U of A and ASU too, and didn't notice anything different about the way students were dressed compared to CA public schools.

Well, first of all, you're talking about expensive, exclusive private schools. Which doesn't describe most universities in the US. Second of all, I bet the only time they enforce the dress code- if they enforce it at all- is in church or for sports teams.

Otherwise it's probably no shoes no shirt no service which is what Disney basically is.

I think whether or not you see short shorts and crop tops on campus is more due to climate than dress code. You don't see them much on the campus near my house but that's because it isn't booty shorts weather except maybe two weeks in July/August.
