How far/out of the way have you gone for something free/discounted?

Sometimes not even 10 steps at Costco to get a free sample! There is probably zero chance I would actually drive somewhere and stand in line to get something free. I won't even go to the store on Black Friday for a specific item because I am not going to fight with hordes of people for a $4 toaster. I do go out and shop, of course, because it's fun, but anything I happen to come across that's a good deal is just a bonus. I usually laugh at the mayhem that ensues in the electronics lines when it's JUST about midnight and breeze on by.

We stopped in at DQ for the first day of spring free ice cream cone. Have to pass DQ everyday on main road to get home, so we didn't go out of the way for a freebie. And there was no line either, lucky us.

I used to get JCPenney coupons save $10 on anything $10 or more. I would finagle my errands to hit the mall during the coupon time so I could use it. And yes, I would find something no more than $10 to get a freebie. (It was easy when my daughter was young to get pajamas). I miss getting those coupons. Haven't had them in quite some time.

Oh I miss those JCP coupons! Our mail is delivered to the PO and everytime those came out, I would check the trashcan there (with permission of course). People would just pitch their "junk" mail into the trashcan and I could always count on getting 5-6 from there.

California Pizza Kitchen is giving away free pizzas today through the Grubhub app but it's 20 minutes in the opposite direction from where I need to travel to go home. I'm conflicted with my desire to just go home versus a free pizza. So begs the question, what have you done because something was too good to pass up and what was it?

California Pizza Kitchen isn't genuine California pizza, and an insult to kitchens everywhere. In fact, it is debatable whether it's even a pizza. I wouldn't go out of my way for it even if they gave it to me and compensated me for gas and time.

im confused - Isn't grubhub a delivery service? why would you have to pick it up?

Depends on what it is and what kind of deal. Something like a free pizza, coffee, donut etc. nah, not worth my time. But something like a B1G1 or B1G% off yep if it’s a quality product. Last time I did this it was my DD’s conditioner that’s normally $30 a bottle. She has super thick hair and goes through conditioner like water. Target had a B2G1. Went to two different Targets and stocked up.

I get offers from casinos every week and rarely take them up. However, one time a casino I had never visited before sent me an offer for $100 free slot play. That’s not normally something that would entice me but one morning during the redemption period I happened to wake up earlier than normal and felt like going for a drive. I had somewhere to be but not until after noon so I hopped in my car, drove two hours to the casino, counted out exactly $100 in spins, walked around the property for 15 minutes, cashed out $87, and then drove 2 hours back to my home plus another 1 hour beyond to wherever it was I needed to be.

I don't know what brand your dd uses but you should check Ulta's website. They run sales where the big bottles (normally $30 and up) are 50% off. Right now the brand I use is B1G1 50% off.
My dd goes through conditioner like crazy so that is when I stock up for her too. I love that I don't have to leave the house to do it!

I remember when Target used to have pretty amazing clearance sales, especially after the holidays. I would travel to a few different ones to stock up on household stuff like hand soap, paper towels, tissues, foil, saran wrap etc. That was when you could find stuff at 90% off. It took me years to go through the "Christmas" garbage bags I got. Those were the good old days.

I've driven to Baltimore and New Jersey for a free cruise.

I used to go to Denny's on Veterans Day for a free breakfast, but decided it wasn't worth getting up early and standing in line for with dozens of other veterans. Nice of Denny's and other restaurants to do, but not worth the effort for me.

When we were young and struggling, DW and I traveled about 45 minutes to a timeshare tour in exchange for a box of ribeye steaks. Before we set out on the tour the guy said, "You're just here for the steaks, aren't you?" We said "Yep," so he gave us the abbreviated tour (about 20 minutes). The steaks might have been actual beef, or they might've been some other animal. It was tough to tell. We didn't eat them.

Yeah we hit that too. They don’t carry her conditioner but she stocks up on her shampoo when they have that sale.

We fly out of BWI on points from our Southwest credit card rather than flying out of Harrisburg. 90 miles vs. 10 miles.

I like the 20 minute reference. 20 minutes is like a quick trip to the corner store for a gallon of milk.

One time I happened to be in the Starbucks drive thru during happy hour when everything was buy one, get one, so I ended up going home with four coffees instead of two. (My DH and I saved the spares for the next day.) That’s about the extent of effort I’ll put into getting something for free — I was already there, I didn’t have to do or pay anything extra to get it, the product was identical to what I would normally buy, and I could make use of the extra item.
