Official 2017 HHN-27 Thread

I have been watching AHS: The Asylum.

What a great series. Can't wait to see the house. For those who haven't watched it: It is well worth your time. Complete series on Hulu.

Happy Horror Nights Opening Day! I'm so envious of people that get to be there on opening night. Have an amazing time!

Academy Of Villains report:

They were on a smaller stage across from a larger stage where they were last year. A TM told me that the stage was damaged by Irma and they had to retool the show for the smaller stage.

Show was otherwise great with high energy. Highlight was the contortionist guy.

They opened with some visual gags blaming the fact they had to have a shortened show on the smaller stage on Irma. The show was shorter than last year with no background to project against and no multi-level stage to perform on. Not their fault, I just hope they had planned a fuller show for when they get back on the larger stage.

I couldn't agree more with you! I happened to pass by on my way out of the park and thought I would stop and watch. After having LOVED last year's show...this one was underwhelming but I hope they have a full scale show when the stage is fixed!

I went to HHN last night! Usually, I do the stay and scream since I have APs for both UOR and HHN. I got caught up at work so I didn't make it in time and it makes SUCH a difference! When I got in at 6:30pm, the houses were all mostly at 40+ mins. Usually you can do S&S and have a few done before the park even opens! I didn't make it to Bill and Ted because I was headed that way via Men in Black path and this year they have it blocked so you have to take the bridge or come in by WWOHP. AoV was shortened like the PP said and felt very underwhelming compared to last year's amazing show! Hopefully they get a full scale show soon but there was still a HUGE crowd watching! I was was able to do The Shining, AHS, Fallen, and Scarecrow and then left (wasn't feeling well,) but heading back tonight to do the APH holding area so hopefully I will get a few other houses done and see Bill and Ted! It seemed unusually crowded for the first night but then again it could be because I didn't do S&S and I heard Bill and Ted shows were packed which is to be expected!

We went last night and are headed back tonight and tomorrow. We had made reservations at the APH early entry but ended up going to the Finnegan's area stay and scream instead. At 5:45 we were escorted from that area to The Shining queue, and they started letting us in right at 6. We went straight from there to Dead Waters, then from there to The Fallen, finishing up those three houses right as the main entrance crowd started making their way in.

From there we rode The Mummy, then caught the first showing of Bill and Ted, which was awesome--it was the best B&T show we've seen at HHN, which makes it all the more sad that it's leaving after this year.

After that we used our express passes to make our way through the other 6 houses and briefly passed through each scare zone, before going through The Shining a 2nd time with express pass right before closing time.

Early impressions of the nine houses (best to worst):

1a. (Tie) American Horror Story -- best IP house for 2nd straight year. I think last year's was a little better and more evenly spaced between the seasons (this felt like 1/2 Asylum, 1/3 Coven, and 1/6 Roanoke), but we will go through multiple more times this trip.

1b & 1c. Dead Waters and The Hive (best original houses). Incredible set design, effects, and well-timed scareactors. I loved the 80s synth vibe of The Hive. *Note: The Hive is a sprung tent and very dark, so it's essential to visit this house after dark or else your eyes won't adjust and you won't be able to see hardly anything.

4. Ash vs. Evil Dead - I don't know how much people who haven't watched the series will enjoy it, but it was great. We binged the 2 seasons for HHN homework, and it really paid off. Not super scary, but a lot of fun and well done.

5. The Shining - OK/decent. I think it was hurt by the fact that I had VERY high expectations for the house. This movie was made to be a HHN house. Fans of the movie will be satisfied by the homages, but I felt like they really blew it with the twins/bleeding elevator scenes - won't go into detail and spoil it, but I was expecting something far more amazing. The bathroom scene and labyrinth scenes were well done.

6/7. Saw/Scarecrow. Both were decent, but didn't blow me away and I felt were a step below the top 5. Of note, EVERYONE seems to have loved Scarecrow -- I keep hearing others in the crowds praising it, and everyone on the Facebook HHN group seems to think it was the best. Maybe we just had bad timing with the scares -- will see if we have a better experience tonight.

8. Blumhouse. Felt rushed: Sinister and Purge are literally two small rooms apiece, then you move into Insidious, which was better, but basically a shorter and inferior version of the Insidious house they did 2-3 years ago (one of my all time favorite HHN houses). Would have been much better if they'd just focused on one series, or made it a longer house (like AHS).

9. The Fallen. Not impressed at all. Cheesy, cheap fake looking monster outfits, and the "amazing" aerial stunts were 2 actors at the end of the house--won't spoil anything. Maybe the house will improve with time and tweaking as the season progresses.

1-7 were all good-to-great, only the last 2 do I think were below par.

Tonight we plan to revisit our favorites and give Scarecrow another shot, but overall take a slower pace and really take in the event and scare zones.

No schumigirl sightings yet this year, but we'll keep an eye out for you!

We're in the middle of the Unmasking the Horror tour right now (we've gone through Blumhouse and Hive, and will hit AHS/Shining/Fallen/Dead Waters after this break). It's our first time doing this, and it's really neat to see the houses slowly and up close to appreciate all the tiny details you could never catch at night during the event.

So this is our second early entry day. Yesterday they kept us boiling in the Simpsons area. Today, the same, but they set up an area between Transformers and The Christmas Shop. As we tried to enter that area, labeled 'stay and scream' they mentioned that we were not allowed to be there, even if we had early entry + annual pass. Does anyone know how it works in that area

We decided to ditch the APH area and go to Finnegan's...it's much better to wait in the ac with food and drinks :cool1:

thanks to everyone doing early reports - great info to have for our trip next month.

I went tonight as well...It didn't seem as busy to me but it could be because I did the APH event which began around 5:30pm. In the end, I did all the houses and Bill and Ted, was at my car by 11:45pm. We did in this order: Hive, Blumhouse, Scarecrow, Ash/Evil, (took a break for Butterbeer,) Bill and Ted, Dead Waters, Fallen, Shining, AHS, and Saw.

Bill and Ted was amazing this year! I enjoy going multiple times because you catch a lot of jokes you missed the first time. They managed to temporarily break the phone booth in my show which made it even more funny! I enjoyed the show 2 years ago, not so much last years and only saw it twice. This one was great!

Houses...Saw is my least favorite with The Shining, AHS, and Blumhouse as my top 3..maybe even Dead Waters too somewhere in there. The shining was much better tonight. I missed A LOT of elements the first night. I, like the PP agree that the shining feels a littler underwhelming for such a great movie and expectations are a little higher because of that!

Debating if I want to go tomorrow or wait till next weekend (Fri and Sat)

Hey, everyone!

Hey all! Just have a couple quick questions.

This is our second time going, and we're planning on going for the very last week of Oct. this year. We were thinking of going on Halloween night since it's a Tuesday and I've heard that Halloween isn't usually too busy, but I was wondering what everyone on here thought.

Also, and I have a feeling that the answer will be no, but do you think it's possible to go to most or all of the houses without Express if we do Stay and Scream and figure out a good route through to the houses? Or will that just be too much for one night? Express is just pretty expensive so we're trying to make sure if we absolutely should get it or not.

Anytime you go to hhn and find the wait lines are too long, the ep can be purchased in the park that night

Not sure if the half price ep will be sold after 10 (or is it 11? ) during hhn

HHN newbie here.

I've been reading about the different passes to buy but am seeing different terms being used. RIP is Front of the Line Access for the Mazes. Are Mazes the same as the Houses?

RIP tour would not include FOL access to the Terror Tram or Walking Dead Attraction (or are those more like the scare zones that you walk through).

So much information to absorb. Our planned date 10/25.

Thanks.

HHN has houses and scare zones.

House lines have regular lines and the ep lines.
EP can be purchased separately or have it included in the HHN passes. (single or multi days)

Hhn ep is valid for one time through the houses and the rides.
There are 6 rides that will be open during hhn.

Bill and Teds show usually only honors the ep for the first show of the night.
That is how it has been the past years and just assuming the same for this year.
I have not gone to hhn yet this season

Public RIP tours follows the tour guide.
You do each house once and Bill and Teds show.
You also walk through the scare zones.

Your tour guide will lead you to the front of the ep lines for the houses.

Maybe you are talking about Hhn at Ca?
no terror tram or walking dead at orlando hhn this year.
