Anniversary Dinner

We had a 6:35 p.m. ADR for Ohana’s. We arrived a little early so we took a little stroll around the resort. I wanted to get DD a flower pin for her hair but all they had were adult sizes. We made our way back towards Ohana’s. I told the family to wait in the lounge area while I went to check in. I wanted to confirm the cake I ordered to surprise DH with. I arrive at the podium and check in. I mention to her about the cake I had ordered, she looks around and finds the order. She then started to make a note of a birthday celebration on our reservation. I then told her that is was an Anniversary we were celebrating. She quickly changes it and then hands me a pager.

I head back to join the rest of the party. We decided to order some drinks. I ordered a Virgin Pina Colada to share with the kids and DH orders a diet coke. The waitress comes back shortly with our drinks. The Pina Colada is very yummy. Shortly after our pager goes off, so we head on up to the podium. We are then escorted to our seats. Our escort asks if we have been here before. We say yes we have but never with the new menu, the last time we came they added just the sausage to the menu. She then tells us what the new additions to the menu are. We are then seated. While sitting at our table I notice the paper with the cake order on it. It was on my side and was hoping DH did not pick it up to read it. Shortly after our waiter comes over and introduces himself. He picks up the cake order slip. I turn to him and whisper, “don’t mention that.” Ed takes our drink order.

Our appetizers come out very quickly. We are given the salad, wontons with the dipping sauces, chicken wings, and the sweet and sour shrimp. I start off with some salad. I thought it was very dry. I then had some shrimp, they were ok I just hated that I had to peel them so did not have many of them. DD did not want anything that was offered. The meats started to come around and DD kept saying no to the meats also. So I cut up some meat for her and put it in her plate and she still did not want it. We then asked Ed if she could get one of the alternative kid’s meals. He said sure, so we ordered her the chicken and French fries. Last year she ate the rice and some meat. She would not touch the potatoes because they looked weird to her. DS only had the meats, he also thought the potatoes were weird. DH had some chicken wings and the meats. We were very disappointed in the whole meal. The meats were very fatty. I missed my shrimp wontons. We did not ask for any more food like we have in the past. While eating they announced a couple of anniversary’s. DH said I hope they don’t know it’s ours. I giggled to myself when he said that. I knew that we still had the cake to look forward to.

Ed then cleaned up our table and brought us out some wash clothes to clean up with. We are then sitting there and waiting for few minutes. DH notices that the tables around us are getting there desserts served by Ed and here we sit still waiting. I told him to be patient. Minutes later I see Ed coming towards us with a cake. DH says “oh I wonder whose birthday it is?” Ed continues to walk towards us and starts to announce that we have an Anniversary celebration and he needed his cousins to help him sing. Then I see DH with a big smile on his face as Ed places the cake on our table. Ed and everyone around us sang a song. What they sang I am unsure of, I was too caught up in DH to notice. After we had our song sang to us a gentleman from two tables over comes up to us and says “Since we sang for you, you need to share your cake” Everyone laughs and then he walks back to his table. I take a few pictures of the cake. Ed takes it the tray behind us and cuts me and DH a huge piece each. He hands them to us and says two small slices for each of you. We then told him not to give the kids such a small slice as ours. It was chocolate cake with chocolate mouse filling and chocolate icing. Let me tell you that was a VERY delicious cake. It made up for the not so great meal. We could not finish our “small” pieces. We wanted but were too stuffed. Ed then says he will pack up the rest of the cake for us. We told him that we like to share with the gentleman that came up to us and the table next to us. Ed said sure no problem. So he sliced up the rest of the cake and divided it up between the two tables. Yes it was a very big cake!

The gentleman from the other table comes back up to us to thank us for the cake. He talked to us for few minutes. He was with his grandkids. The table next to us was leaving and thanked us again for the cake.

The delicious cake was $25.00 plus tax and tip. It came to $31.13. We thought Ed did very good job so we added in another five bucks for him.

Overall thoughts: We have been to Ohana’s about 4-5 times before. We always enjoyed it and always left stuffed! We were very disappointed this time and don’t think we will back again. We will give Kona Café a try next time. The cake was the highlight of the night. We used 4 TS credits

I forgot to take pics of the food but have pics of the cake and drinks.
