Something I have never understood.

If an individual has a mind that is so UTTERLY DEPRAVED that they seek out the unspeakable exploitation of children,why is their punishment not either Death or Life Imprisonment?

Why do we EVER release them back into Society?

It’s doubtful he is capable of changing that. Some states have made it harder to release sex offenders. We do need to change those laws for sure.

As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I really don't care about an offender 'bettering his life'. There are some things that are so heinous that the person doesn't deserve a 'second chance'. Anything that involves a child, IMO, falls under that category.

I hope he gets the full 20 years. No chance at parole or probation + a lifetime ban from all children.

I followed the case, and read the trial transcripts. What he did to his sisters was truly horrific, and the videos and images he downloaded and watched were what detectives called 'the worst of the worst,' involving children as young as six months old. It followed a pattern throughout his life of escalation. I think they should throw away the key.

I’d rather not read such letters. But I wouldn’t be surprised if his supporters blame the sisters for “tempting” him.

I read the one his mother wrote. Just gross. They really don't care about their daughters who he abused.

Thankfully at least one mother of the CSA victims wrote a letter with quotes from her daughter. So some victim impact there.
All the support letters read like he's some kind of boy scout.

From the neighbour's letter regarding Josh. Sounds like person is a little off their rocker.

"This hardened criminal stated that he and the other men knew that Joshua was innocent," the neighbor reportedly continued. "As inmates, they recognized that sometimes innocent men are in prison and they were so stunned by Joshua’s character that they were convinced of his innocence."

And not one word in any of the letters in regards to the victim, helping him to change his ways, etc.

Clearly his actions illustrate that he is open to repeating again. Not only did his crimes against his sisters get swept under the rug by whisking him away to religious counseling, but he has moved onto child pornography. Hopefully he serves the full sentence. He has already had his second chance.

That's how the law works. A group of people once decided 'for theft you get punishment X, for murder punishment Y'. The process of changing laws goes incredibly slow and is only done in reaction to cases. When there is a certain case where a person gets the punishment that on paper fits the crime, but over time our perception about the crime has changed, only then the group of people are looking into it 'maybe we should change the punishment'. That hardly ever happens on forehand.

It's not that long ago that spousal rape didn't exist. It was only considered rape when it happened outside the marriage.
And only in recent years there are countries where it's a topic to change laws to make non-verbal protest or freezing when being attacked also a valid way to protest. Or that explicit consent is necessary. That's also quite new.

With the internet and the dark web we've come to realize how evil humans can get. And before that it was all underground and you just didn't hear about this. It's not that it didn't exist, but when people do not talk about it, laws do not get changed either.
So hopefully with these cases out in the open and the disgust and abhorrence people feel about these cases will lead to a change in law one day.

I hope he gets the maximum prison time. His crimes are heinous and he apparently still shows no remorse. He does not deserve leniency. I feel sorry for his seven children, but they are certainly better off without him.

Jim Bob and Michelle have their head's completely in the sand. They are so completely out of touch with EVERYTHING here.

I truly do not know how anybody can write a letter like that and actually be serious about it. It's absurd. As a SA victim I am so insulted about this letter that it's actually been a bit of a trigger. I am spending way too much time on this.

He has a tender heart and is compassionate towards others. If someone is having a difficult time, he is one of the first to encourage or try and help them in a tangible way.

Well good for him. I can totally see how that COMPLETELY erases the fact that he is a Pedophile and he must be released from prison immediately because his tender heart might be in jeopardy.

Completely out of touch. Tender heart my *** Michelle he's just trying to get closer to people so he has access to more victims.
