what phone does he have?

Related question- if the ride doesnt happen (we are BG 15), can we as for a FP on a specific date? We return to HS on the 26th. We have base tickets

The top 3 days all occurred in the last 9 days! Hopefully we’ll be setting more records soon!!

As a reminder, I am heading to WDW on Saturday morning so my chart time has 4 days left. I’d be willing to fill it in when I get back if people keep track while I’m gone. I’m out until Sunday 2/2 though.
Don’t get too excited- one of the very worse days was also 1/17- just four days ago while I was there. Down most of day!

A number of folks in this thread have said they "close completely out" or something similar, to resolve an issue when they are unable to get a BG. I *think* they mean they are closing the MDE App and re-opening it - is that correct?

Yes, this is what I understand them to mean when they say that.

My first day is Jan. 29th. They are showing 8 a.m. for park opening. And on the following Sunday, they are showing 9 a.m. opening. Do you think they might change the 8 a.m. opening to 7 a.m.?

Yes, I think its likely but who really knows?

We will be visiting the first week of Feb when the opening time is 9am. If we are arriving with bags and a stroller, would you recommend arriving earlier than 8am (1 hour early)?
This thread has been helpful in terms of planning but also incredibly nerve racking!

I doubt the opening time will stay at 9 AM, but in any case if you have bags and a stroller, you will want to be at least an hour early. It’s MOBBED at park opening and it will take a while to get through security. If everyone has bags opened, unzipped, etc, it will go faster but sometimes it goes much slower than you’d anticipate.

I used Verizon (iPhone Xs) while I was solo, and the group next to me all had various devices and wifi/carriers. They saw the “join boarding group” about 20 seconds before me, and encouraging yelled at me, “refresh, refresh!” to help out. I got boarding group 45 I believe, while they were in the 60s. They got their BG about 15 seconds sooner than I did. No rhyme or reason to that but it worked.

Hi everyone, we're boarding group 48 and as of 11:41am they still haven't started boarding. At what time of the day do we start to figure that even if they get the ride running, we still won't get to board? I read that they do about 10 groups per hour and the park closes at 8pm so I'm guessing that we should give up hope at around 3pm?

If we don't get to board, will they provide any kind of compensation? This is the only day we have at Hollywood Studios so we're not going to get another chance.

In the meantime we've come back to our hotel to rest (sounds like we're not the only ones). It was an early start for us and it's a chilly day.
This happened to me Friday as BG61. Someone in line with a boarding group 80’s received a notification in the afternoon letting them know their boarding group would not be called. I did not receive such a notification at BG 61. At 5:45 pm- a vested cast member told us that at 6:00 they would decide what they were doing. The ride opened up- we had hope. 25 minutes later- they escorted everyone back off. Spoke with cast member in plaid vest who took my and my groups info after verifying we had a “guaranteed” boarding group for the day. They filled out a white slip with our info (which I photo’d) and said we could come back on a day of our choosing for any anytime FP for the ride- we just had to go to guest service. When we went on Sunday- we went right to guest services and they looked up our info, scanned a FP to our bands and we could ride anytime of day. We rode ASAP because we were afraid it would be down again. Because we have AP’s they did not have to do anything other than give us the FP. If you have regular tickets- they will also give you a free ticket back into the park on another day.

We have a 8am ADR at H&V. Current opening time is 9am. Let's say they move the opening up to 8am on the day we have that ADR at 8am. Will they still have the separate ADR line to enter the park? (So, we could plan to arrive by 7:30 for the 8am ADR.)
Or will we have to get there super super early and use the same line as everyone else trying to enter the park?

You would go in with everyone else.

So happy you got a boarding group! Did you get it on your phone, or did your husband get it from home? Curious because I also have an older phone and wanted to see if it made a significant difference.

I got it on my phone! Which made me feel better as DH is always getting on my case and wanting me to upgrade to a fancy android. He was actually right next to me in the park - I think I must have just refreshed a bit faster than him.

For me, these situations have always been so frustrating because nobody will tell you what's up. If they don't expect the ride to be open till later this afternoon, just tell people. Now one could make the argument that they actually have no idea how long the delay will last. I totally get that. However, what one Universal employee said to me about Hagrid's really stuck. He said that if a ride has downtime, 90% of the time they generally know how long it will last.

Yes- they ask you what day you would like to come back.
eddited to add: that is what they did for us Friday. They were able to get through about 70 boarding groups that day and the groups that were loaded were told it was as “standby” after 6:30 as they were not sure it would actually be working or not. At 6:30 we were given the option to hope it stays Up or take a FP for another day. After waiting 12 plus hours we chose the FP.

Well when you talk to a frontline CM they often don't know what is going on. Management and engineering/maintenance doesn't relay that info to them and if they do and they are wrong the guest is still upset. For example, today the ride was expected to be running within the last two hours but had a setback causing it to still be down.
