RP food too high: Please recommend close off site places to eat

Royal Pacifics food prices are way out of line. Please recommend food places very near the RP within easy driving distance - Driving directions??

How do the food prices at RP compare to the food prices at PB and HRH? Are they similar or is RP out of lilne with even its sister hotels?

There are several food places on Kirkman or I-Drive. To get to Kirkman, take a right out of the resort, turn left at the light where you could go into the general parking lot, follow that down to take a right towards the big twin hotels Radisson, turn left at that light and go from there. If you want to go to I-Drive, follow the same directions and substitute the last step for turn right and go toward I-4 East sign and you'll come out to I-Drive...

There's a lot more out there. International Drive seems to have every restaurant franchise, but I would stay away from that area if possible. Traffic can be terrible there.

You should check out Chapparals. It's about 4 miles from Universal. We love the steaks and bacon shrimp. The prices are very reasonable, even the drinks are relatively cheap. A 32 oz. margarita for about 7 bucks. Most of the golfers go there when they're in town for one of the tourneys. Our last trip, we ate there 3 times.

If you like Indian food, there are two good Indian places nearby, both near the intersection of Kirkman and International Drive:

Ponderosa is supposed to have a wonderful buffet for, I think, 3.99. Never tried it but next time it is on my list of musts.
I think it is breakfast but I am not sure. Maybe someone on here who has gone there can post. Can't beat the price though.
And Fridays is right across the street from the universal parking garage. We went in for lunch one day and it was empty. Food was good though. Too bad that the prices are so high at RPH, I wanted to go hotel hopping next trip and try out some of them.

We ate at the Ponderosa breakfast buffet during our last trip. It was around $23 for 3A and 1 ch breakfast (the $4.99 buffet price doesn't include drinks). It was pretty yucky but the kids liked having many choices.

Well, it seems to me that at PBH you can find it a bit more reasonable. Mama Dellas is a great family place so is Trattoria. Also you can just get a pizza or asomething at Sals market.
At HRH even the pool menu is better then RP's poolside menu.
The buffet at Islands restaurant at RP is great for kids at $3.99 but then they charge you $2.00 for a soda & the adult buffet is $24.50!

Great list Barry. This info should be added to the permanent threads. Hope the "insiders" see this and lower the prices. It's supposed to be a budget hotel. It would be cool if they had a food court like the All Star resorts at Disney.

Chapparal's is about 4 miles from universal, I think their web site is chapparalsteakhouse.com. They have directions and their menu. The steaks are very big and the prices are very reasonable. It's one of those places where you would normally just drive by it without noticing it. We had several friends reccomend it, and we love it. Our kids love it. I guess the professional golfers know food, their pictures are all over the wall from their visits.

It's supposed to be a budget hotel. It would be cool if they had a food court like the All Star resorts at Disney.

The great opening specials gives the wrong impression. The hotel is intended to be a 4 star hotel in the same category as the other 2 hotels (rack prices are a little lower but the rooms are smaller). If you look at the amenities of the hotel it's clear it's not intended to compete with the All Stars. It's true we have to give back some of the room savings (pay for parking and more expensive food options).

I think one of the reasons for the high prices (see above) I have seen posted is that this hotel is geared towards the convention market. If your company is footing the bill, who cares about the prices. It just doesn't sound like they really care about the family market in their pricing. It is a shame that people are forced to order in pizza and drive down the street to get an affordable meal when traveling with their children.

Budget minded companies consider all the costs when booking for conventions too (otherwise they would go broke) -

It's true that when traveling we generally expect to pay a little more for hotel food, but $24.95 for a buffet without even giving you a cola with that price is riduculous, and I think even those with the extra cash will tend to choose their dining options more wisely. I love a luxury hotel, but I'm not completely out of my mind. Fortunately, City Walk offers some reasonable dining choices - all within walking distance.
