In response to claims that credit sharing might be coming to an end, I am starting this thread with hopes that we can get feedback on whether or not this is happening.

So far the reports seem to have been localized to Hollywood and Vine. However there was a report that certain managers were suggesting that sharing will be ending in the New Year

Here’s to hoping that sharing can continue.

Regarding that post, I can see why using 2 A / 3 C Dlx credits to supplement 7 additional adults is being questioned. The way it was explained to us is: Disney reimburses participating restaurants a flat rate based on the credit type being redeemed. Therefore, the restaurant is losing money.

So I am hoping that (fair) sharing remains, and the child to adult loophole is closed.

We tend to share adult credits with a few extra adults and usually end up breaking even in the end. More for convenience, not savings. Sharing also comes in very handy when plans change.

I reached out to my TA about this issue for my late Feb trip and was told:

“After a couple of calls and touching base with Guest Services….here’s what I have for you..

While it is “technically the policy” that dining plans are not shared between reservations, it is up to the individual restaurant whether they allow sharing. While most restaurants do not care/mind, it is possible that a restaurant could deny the sharing of meal credits.

This is more likely to happen in non-Disney owned restaurants such as those in EPCOT. “

Watching this closely as we have a trip planned for October. We are doing a split stay, the first part of which we will be divided into two rooms, where one room could get the DxDP and share with the other room.

I will be watching as well.

We shared the DLX (adults) during all 4 of our trips in 2018 and never had one issue, the most recent being Nov 30 - Dec 8.

Joining in to watch as well. We have 2 rooms booked (2 adults in each). One has DxDP and we are planning on splitting the credits between us.

We are on the last day of our trip today.
Restaurants that had no problems with sharing credits, even using some child credits for adults were...
    Be Our Guest
    Ohana
    Coral Reef
    Homecomin
    Garden Grill
    Cape May
    Morimoto
    House of Blues
    Chef de France
    Planet Hollywood
    Boathouse
    Sci Fi
    Mama Melrose
    Yak and Yeti
    California Grill.

The one that did have a big problem with it was 50’s prime time cafe. We did not eat at Hollywood and Vine but I have heard they push back against it. The manager at 50’s did allow us to eventually but it was VERY evident he didn’t like it and I can see it not being allowed there very soon. Most of the other restaurants acted like no big deal at all with no reaction except when we were dining with six or more the servers seemed pretty pumped knowing they would be guaranteed a fat tip. We always tipped 20% or more even when less than 6 dined but their faces for sure light up when they saw deluxe dining.

Could you tell if it was just the sharing he didn't like or was it the use of childs' credits to purchase adult meals?

It's just very interesting to me that 50s and H&V, two very much Disney owned restaurants, are the ones pushing back on this.

Where did you dine today? Obviously much of your trip fell in 2018 prior to the “rumored” 2019 change. As has already noted in the previous reply H&V and 50’s (two physically connected restaurants) seem to be the problematic locations.

Also, ...Did 50’s manager mention any possible Disney wide change in share allowance ?

I’ve never used the dining plan before - how would a restaurant know if someone is sharing credits?

I also appreciate this thread being initiated and will watch closely. We have a family trip planned for May with 7 adults and 3 children and multiple rooms. We are planning on doing the DxDP and sharing. We will have 4 adults and 2 children on the plan.

Experts : Please help clarify use of Deluxe credits....Me, DH and three grandkids (8, 4, 3) will be staying on site with Deluxe DP. Grandkid's parents will be staying off site. If we have a table service reservation for 11, can we just use 11 of our credits to pay for the meal? Or, do we have to tell the waiter that only 5 are on dining plan and 6 have to pay separate? Last time we had the dining plan, there was absolutely no sharing of your meal credits with people that were not on your plan, but now I think I've read sharing is allowed.
Yes you can use your credit to pay for their meals now. Enjoy!
And since all credits are pooled, great use of the kids credits for adults. You can also pay cash for the kids and use their credits for adult meals
Back in May I had asked the question about sharing for our December trip and received two replies saying it was allowed. I kept reading about people sharing the deluxe plan and wanted to make sure it was okay. As you can see by my question we were prepared to pay the other 6 (later turned into 7) if it was not allowed. Had absolutely no problems at 6 out of 9 restaurants. It was never conveyed that we were trying to use child credits for adults, they only said that there were only 5 people on our hotel reservation/dining plan and “technically” we were only “allowed” to use 5 credits per meal.

I now understand how they know...

    This.

There seem to be two issues. Can credits be shared across reservations? that would seem to apply to all DPs.

And can child ‘TS’ credits be used for adults using the DxDP?

    And watch we shall!

Here is the dxdp info, highlighting thus section
    https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/disney-deluxe-dining-plan/

How to Use Your Dining Plan

    1. Present your valid Disney Resort ID (MagicBand or card) to your server or cashier at participating restaurants.
    2. Specify the number of meals or snacks being redeemed.

For special dietary requests, Guests should note them at the time of booking their dining reservations. Guests may also speak with a chef or manager upon arrival at the dining location.

If you’re dining with another party that’s also using a MagicBand or card to redeem meals, please notify the server which meals should be redeemed on each valid Disney Resort ID.

You can redeem your meals and snacks in any order during your stay, until the number of meals and snacks associated with your package has been depleted. All unused meals and snacks and the ability to use your refillable mug expire at midnight on your package reservation checkout date.

Since there has been no breakdown between child and adult credits, all credits can be used as desired. If you pay cash for the kiddos, I see no reason all credits can’t be used by adults. Disney created this and unless and until they fix it, use it anyway you like.

I would love to have a manager discussion. As in please show me in writing, on the Disney site, where it says I am limited. If it’s not in writing, it doesn’t exist.

This is the line that the managers have cited to those that had a hard time: "Disney dining plan meals and snacks may not be redeemed for cash in whole or in part, sold separately, transferred or refunded." It's at the very bottom of the link you shared and in the VERY fine print on the PDF you're given at the resorts. They are saying that using credits for people not on your plan is "transferring" them.

Personally, I would take exception with their definition of "transfer." I would not be transferring anything; I would simply be using my credits to pay for a meal, which I am allowed to do.

It was both. He made clear that there were only three on that room and wanted another band to be used and also noted that there was a child on the reservation but no child at that meal. He said that the credits were non transferrable and was very firm about it. He also asked where else we had done the sharing and asked where we were staying. He did not like it AT ALL

Today some of us dined at homecoming and some at house of blues and some at 1900 park fare just now and no problems with any of them!
