Us, Food, Drink, Friends, and Sledge (Hijack update Disney and Napa Rose 12/16)

OK! So after my Kouzinna breakfast it was time to head into Epcot and see the festival center! I love the festival center!! The air conditioning is always perfect, the bathrooms are clean and quiet and I can get a glass of wine at 9am! Sweet wonder that it Disney Food and Wine Festival!

A glass of prosecco and a box of popcorn is my usual Disney breakfast, but we had already eaten so no need for all those carbs!

Wine in hand we picked up our class tickets for the day from the Disney mis-information station (thank you Brenda!) and headed out to do some rides until the Rope Drop of the Food Booths!

A quick comment about rope drop and the 11 am Food Booth scramble.

1st, Thank you to Cork, New Zealand, Santiago, and Rio for opening up to 15 minutes early on somedays so we could get our food fun on.

2nd, For those who felt it necessary to run into the world showcase at rope drop ... What were you running to??? Just curious. Besides I can't run without spilling the wine sample from the previous booths!

The very definition of heaven. In fact, I believe that your report last year is what turned me on to the festival center and the economical glass of prosecco. Thank you!!

1st Booth of the trip - Mexico City! Always a Favorite but they had taken away one of our most bestest items from the past - would they disappoint?! WE SAY NO!

• Taco de Cochinita Pibil (Corn Tortilla filled with Shredded Pork and Purple Onions) $3.75

This was really good! Pork was plentiful and had a lot of flavor and I loved the pickled onions!

Next Booth Barcelona -

Red Snapper Escabeche $4.50

We loved this! The fish was cooked perfect and the "salsa" was capers and yummy veggie goodness!

How did we get to Poland so quick from Spain but here we are -

Braised Pork Shank with Cabbage and Fresh Herbs $3.50

This was good - not great but good! With all really good food at the festival this year we thought that this was just standard!

China -

Shrimp Rice Pancake $3.50
Happy Lychee $7.00

The Good News! The Happy Lychee lived up to it's name! It tasted like Lychee and made me HAPPY! Just enough liquid love to make the crying children from the Princess Breakfast fade into the background!

The Bad News! The Shrimp Pancake was more like the Flavorless Eraser! We did squirt some hot sauce to make it taste like something but it was not worth the effort!

New Delhi

Rice and Lentil Crepe with Potato and Onion Filling $3.25

Again - I thought this we good but not a good as others. They were making them to order but I swear they were using the pancake batter in a squirt can from Costco for the crepes!

Off to Tokyo -

Sukiyaki Beef Roll $4.00

This was fine - not sushi but fine. I get why they can't go to far out of the box but come on! This is the Hot Wing of Sushi rolls! Good for the masses, edible but I don't think I can go to Japan any time soon and ask for a beef sukiyaki roll without being thrown from the country!

Last stop before our 1st class - Morocco

Baklava $2.95

I thought this was ok but I am not a Baklava person so gues who you get to hear from again!

And then, I see a comment about pancake batter from Costco that squirts out of a can and I just lose it. I was at Costco a few hours ago. And I had never seen said squirty batter before. It looked like whipped cream cans, and yet, the concept seemed a bit scary. Just wanted to share how funny I found your reference to said batter.

My mom bought me the squirt can pancake stuff from Costco once because they were demo'ing it. Oh my, ick!!!! My 12 year old son wouldn't eat it, and you know they will eat about anything that isn't healthy!
