Princess Tiana

We are really excited since my DD's name is Tia. I think this is as close as we will ever get to having "anything" resembling her name! :cool1:

I named her "princess Tia" 7 years ago, after the sister of king Ramses.

I have a 17 year old son so I never got to do the whole princess thing.

I've worked hard to turn my nieces into princess freaks. It didn't work with the oldest one. However the youngest one is hooked.:cool1::cool1:

I call them Princess Aziza and Princess Atiya.princess:princess:

Never heard of her.

Is it a "Disney version" of Princess Diana? Or is it pronouned Tee-ah-nah?

I know thats a silly question....but Diana/Tiana......you see why I thought that.
yes its tee-ah-nah as someone mentioned before the name that rhymes with diana is spelled with a y ---Tyanna (just like my annoying neice:rotfl:)

I think it's great that we will have an African American princess! We'll definitely be on the look-out for Princess Tiana gear for our niece when we are at WDW in August! She would go crazy over it!

as but I too am totally and extremely happy about an african american princess and lets not forget the fairy Idrissa (sp???:dance3:)

Yes , my baby is 7 year old princess Sienna. My children are byracial. We were so happy when Iridessa came out! We are now very excited for the new princess. She always ask me why are all the people in Cinderella white? hmmmm... pirate:princess:

it's tee-ah-nuh.. just like the -na in diana is. the other syllables are different.

and the movie actually is being released in november in nyc and la, so she could very well show up in nov somewhere too. she'll actually probably be at the el capitan then i imagine. nyc wod stopped its character meet & greets but she might show up in nyc too i suppose.

I'm soooo excited. WE absolutely love Iridessa. My DD loves her. We cannot wait until we get the new princess. My daughter loves all of the princesses but it's nice to have one that will closely resemble my daughter. ;)

Well because it takes place in Europe a long long time ago, and they might not even have heard of the continent of Africa, and the continent of Africa may have never heard of Europe.

Iridessa? Who is that?

ETA: I can't wait for the movie! It sounds amazing. I'm seeing it opening weekend for sure!

let's face it.. the same reason why all of the folks in the original flintstones and jetsons were white, etc. there would have been nothing wrong with disney having people of color in the classics, they meddled around with enough of the storylines as it is. heck, the little mermaid killed herself in the original story.

and there is HBO's happily ever after series - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/index.html?curid=3960323

Disney did produce the tv live action version of Cinderella with Brandy and Whitney Houston, et al though.

as for iridessa she's the light fairy from the new pixie hollow series of movies. she does meet & greets at WDW and DLR

I guess its because Im a mom of 2 boys....but I never "got" why every main female Disney character had to become a princess. To me, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel.......they were princesses. Not Snow White, Ariel, or Pocohantas. Maybe its because Im not overly familiar with their stories? Did all of them marry a prince?

I love it that the little girls go crazy over them though. Its just my adult view I guess.

Snow White starts out as a princess AND ends up married to a prince, Ariel is the daughter of the sea king and marries prince Eric and Pocahontas is the daughter of a chief so I suppose that is a kind of princess.

Pretty much all cultures have Cinderella type folktales.

They didn't have to limit themselves to European folktales.

Yeah, but you can't find them in the parks or their merchandise in the gift shops.
My youngest niece was 5 when here family went to WDW. (My sister and BIL are NOT Disney fans) When she saw Cinderella in the Magic Kingdom, she was not impressed. When she came by on the float, my niece asked me who she was. I told her it was Cinderella and she said "No it isn't, Cinderella has braids just like me!":rotfl2::lmao:

She also pointed out later in the trip that none of the princesses looked like her.

I dont get it.

I've never once thought Pocahontas "wasn't like me".

Do little girls say that about Pocahontas? About Jasmine?

It alway appears that the likes of Cinderella are singled out. Why is this?

I am totally thrilled that an afrcan-american princess has arrived, however I wont be thinking "she isn't like me".

i haven't heard of her!!!!!!
my DD3 would JUST LOVE another princess tho!!
can someone post a link of where i can see a pic?!?:confused3

are my pictures of tiana and the dress showing up?

I don't like that they are touting her as "the American Princess"

Why???

I dont get it.

My niece said that about all of the princesses because NONE of them looked like her.

The consumers want a bit more diversity. I hope they the next princess is Hispanic.

We are really excited about the new movie. We leave for our trip the day after the movie comes out but we won't get to see it before we leave. I wish there was a place at WDW that we could see the movie!
