Price of the "extra bun" has soared!

I find it amazing of the extremes that people go to when they are on a vacation in WDW. Why not just go with the flow and accept things for what they are. Isn't Disney Exhausting enough? I'm sorry, but the only reason that people are splitting soda's and burgers is because they really did not have enough funds to go on this trip to begin with. I am by no means a rich person, but If I go on vacation I always have ample money saved so I don't need to worry about ridiculous stuff like this. If the money is not there, then I don't go. I read a quote one time in a disney guidebook that said "If you can crumple up a $100 bill and flush it down the toilet without flinching, then you are ready for a Disney Vacation".

Pretty funny. The wealthiest people I know personally (the ones that top out near the top of Forbes 400) are also the thriftiest! Money (or lack of it) has nothing to do with spending frivolously.

The point I was trying to make is that you are on Vacation. Why not try to enjoy yourself. 51 weeks a year at home I am all about clipping coupons and looking for sales, but for 1 week a year I put that aside and enjoy my vacation. I don't go with the attitude of "How can I save a buck" Again, If I don't have the money then I don't go.

But the wealthy people (that ones that can afford anything WDW has to offer) are thrifty 52 weeks out of the year.

I'm truly glad you enjoy your vacations without worrying about the cost. Personally, I can't stand to spend $2.50 on a bottle of Coke at WDW. To me it seems like a no-brainer (and not the least bit of trouble) to bring in my own drinks or be happy with a cup of free ice water.

I agree 100%!!! I'm not rich but when I'm at WDW I'm going to order what I want and not worry about "bun strategies" :rotfl2:

I also wouldn't go all the way to WDW and eat a PB & J or carry a warm bottle of water around with me all day - yeah I could save a dollar here and there but it's not worth the savings to me!

I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but If I have to go to Disney and worry about splitting a soda or buying an extra bun to save money then I would be rethinking a Disney Vacation. Why not wait another year to go, and save more money.

Exactly, or eat a decent breakfast before you come to the park, get a snack or bring some fruit and PB crackers with you, buy a drink and eat when you leave.

I seriously can not believe people have to do this, in order to go. It would not be a vacation for me.

Everyone is different of course, but I agree--for us when we're on vacation (and at WDW) it's not about getting by the cheapest way we can. Trying to figure out how to cut this ,that, or the other thing from what we're eating or drinking.
But as I said, everyone is different.

I see nothing gross about finishing my children's food as another poster commented. They are my children. They wash their hands before they eat. They do not play with the food. It isn't about being cheap as we are on the DDO, it is about using common sense for us and not wasting food.

I agree. No problem with sharing amongst our family to prevent waste, when dining out. I always make sure the kids and DW get fed first, and if something is left or I decided in advance to be the "clean up guy", the I finish it up. I also keep my most of my kids leftovers at home to take to work for lunch. No problems at all. Saving money, and teaching the kids not to waste. Win-win IMO.

DW and I fully intend to split CS meals when we go to WDW, and the kids may be splitting too once we see the size of the meals. We don't want to get stuffed before our TS meals, and I don't want anyone getting sick on a ride or in the heat. We will have CS dining credits, but still plan to split and eat less, but more often. If we use them all during our week or not, no biggie. No one will go hungry, but we want to eat smart and not have an unfortunate problem ruin our day.

But I will not force my wife or kids to make a meal at a condiment bar. I believe I would be removed of my DisDad status for that one.

Amen! People being cheap, you're not at home where you can buy a burger for a buck...realize it and live with it!:stir:

I guess I should cancel my upcoming trip. I try to save a buck here and there by doing TIW for the 20% discount, and eating late lunches instead of dinners. I always get ice water from the fountain serve food outlets. Let's not get elitist here - I can afford to disregard cost and value, but I choose to do other things with my savings (like another trip to WDW). For many people, a dollar may be worth much more than it is to you. It's personal finance and economics, not a character flaw. Sorry if I offend many of you, but this needed to be said.

I had no idea that watching how other families eat their meals is so entertaining. Maybe Disney doesn't need parades...we can watch each other eat. :rotfl:

We share food and drinks all the time, don't even think about it...I never knew we were creating a spectacle. :confused3

Order and eat what you want, pay what they charge.

Sounds like we both have the same financial advisor, Scrooge McDuck. :thumbsup2

Isn't it funny how we have a whole thread focused on a hamburger bun reportedly costing $3.15, but nobody has yet commented that two people have purchased the bun, in the past 2 days, for about 80 cents, which is what it "used" to cost?! Hmmmm.... wonder what's up??

And folks, "bringing your own buns" is a joke... we all ALWAYS bring our "buns" everywhere we go!! :lmao:
(perhaps the smilie should be called "lmbo")

I wondered when a "buns" joke would come up.

I'm picturing myself yelling out the door of Pecos Bill's...."Honey get your buns in here!"

Sorry, sometimes I have the sense of humor of a 7 year old....

It is all about choices. Our choices may not be the same, but no need to be snarky to each other

Play nice everyone :thumbsup2

What would really get snarky if if someone posted they had their kids hold the table while the parents bought the cs meal to be split 4 ways. :rotfl:

...and Cheshire Figment, I agree with you if I were looking at it from a business perspective. I see your point, but with the condiments it probably all works out even in the end. Some really use a lot of them, some don't at all. I'm sure the price of all of that is already figured into the equation, but your point is a valid one.

Yes, the price usually is considered......for each purchased item, not for those who "make salad" from the condiments. Even a bun at $1, is figured for a certain amount of toppings, but not a side serving of salad.

I have a great time on my WDW vacation even if I have to be wary of my spending.......I have had times when we go all out at WDW because the chef business has been really good; I have gone when things are on a tight budget when the chef business has been slow.....I can't recall either circumstance being anything less than wonderful for my whole family. I will go to a value resort instead of a deluxe, I will eat CS meals (and even share larger ones) instead of TS meals, and I will drink water not soda (for cost and weight loss) just so my family can enjoy a trip to WDW. If that is wrong, I don't want to be right!!! ;)

I wonder who appreciates a trip to WDW more, a person with limited resources who works hard to get their family a "trip of a lifetime" even if they have to watch their finances while there, or the person who has a the ability to go whenever they want, and spend whatever the want?? Just a question. Sssteele, I think you made your point very well......I too (at times) could go with concern, but there are times I don't!!

Agreed!!!!

What would really get snarky if if someone posted they had their kids hold the table while the parents bought the cs meal to be split 4 ways. :rotfl:

Oh, and mine will run around your table screaming while I am up making my condiment salad and splitting my double cheeseburger into 6 pieces to share just so your experience perfect too. ;):rotfl:

Again, nobody has addressed the two people who were there in the past week......they bought a bun for 80 cents plus tax. Kinda makes it seem like someone has effectively caused an uproar over nothing. As for the free Coke, that is ridiculous.....Yes, they sponsor and provide the international flavors at Club Cool, but I assure you the soda served in bottles or at fountains cost WDW something.

Ok, I'm done!!!:lmao:

:thumbsup2

I split doubles with my dd5 last trip 3 different times - we just cut it in half and there was still more than enough, especially with the fries, soda and dessert. Now my ds8 ate an entire double by himself at Electric Umbrella.

Depriving Disney of theirr profit? First of all a ticket sell of $90.00 just to get into the gate is profit. Second they pay 3 cents per coke. They have a deal where they buy their syurp from the food supplier. They buy their bottled drinks from the local coke distributor and then gets about a $13.00 dollar discount per case for being exclusive.
Hit the nail on the head with this post.

Now, really...anyone here would be diving after that $100 bill. Why, that can go towards my next Disney vacation!

The ticket price is not straight profit......they do have to pay employees, maintain the parks, and pay utilities you know.

Where did you get those numbers for the soda??? 3 cents per fountain soda is not realistic no matter how large the volume. Coke syrup sold in BIB systems is cheap, but not that cheap......it will run about 1.5 - 2 cents per ounce (I would even concede .8 - 1.5 cents for Disney) of finished soda based on volume. That makes cost on 20oz of soda about 15/20 cents to 40 cents each. Now figure another 10 cents for cup, lid, straw and you have about 25-50 cents per 20oz cup of soda. That is the way it works, WDW does get great pricing I assure you, but if you think it is free or nearly free you are mistaken. Same goes to the price of bottled soda....a case price is about $16 right now......by your figures, they would be getting those for $3 a case. Again, not a realistic figure even considering their volume. I bet they do get a good discount, but not an approximate 80% discount as you have stated.
