FINAL UPDTD 8/16 - The "Don't mess with the CMs/take less photos TR" Jun14 @ BWV

I am multiple updates behind. Ugh! I am so used to looking for an update date that I have completely overlooked your TR. Decided to check this morning on a whim and - oh crap - multiple updates that I can't even finish now because I have to go to work.
I need to start adding the update date!

Boo to the pink eye - but yeah for quick service and a quick pharmacy start.
We dodged a bullet that day. I just knew she was going to be down for the count and not able to do anything all week!

Fun pic of you guys outside ToT - well except for your pinch. :rotfl2: Definitely not the look!

The ToT ride pics are hysterical. You look like you are going to puke on the second one and those people on the first one are hysterical.
That 2nd ToT ride was great!

Room view - not bad. You were pretty close to the main entrance, but at least you didn't have mega hallways to walk through. Maybe you posted room pics, but I didn't get that far yet with my power reading.
I'm not big on room view because a) it costs more DVC points and b) we don't spend much time in the room.

Love the food rating system.
Thank you ma'am...it works for me! :lmao:

Same thing happened to me with BWV checkin. I swear they don't text.
This is my biggest pet peeve about Disney. If you're not going to do it, don't offer! Others have received their text but I guess they take one look at me and say, "He's that guy that messes with my fellow CM's so I'm gonna get him back!" :sad2: Maybe I need to send DW in to check-in from now on!

shout our to Todd & Paul! :rotfl2:
I thought you might appreciate those pics. I have another one for you in Morocco later. Can you guess what it is? :rotfl:

Dinner looks really relish. I'm sort of sorry to see it turn Italian. I don't really get that unless its to cater to people who aren't going into the park and just want to enjoy the Boardwalk. I'd rather keep it the way it was. Breakfast there was always delish!
Now that we finally got around to trying Kouzzina, I'm sad to see it go. I guess Greek/Med food is not for everyone but we liked it.

Not sure what I think about that party. The desserts look good, but I tend to agree with you that the price is high. But I think Disney will charge what they think you will pay and there certainly wasn't a shortage of people attending. We went to the Star Wars breakfast in May and I felt that was priced a little high as well. It was fun, but it was pricey. I can't imagine paying for an entire family.
The joys of taking kids...they run the cost up! :scared1:

:offtopic:
It is now official what will be replacing Kouzzina's...

Trattoria al Forno to replace Cat Cora's Kouzzina at Disney World

With opening planned for December, we’re sharing the first details for Trattoria al Forno, the new restaurant for Disney’s BoardWalk.

A “trattoria” is an Italian restaurant serving simple food, and “al forno” is Italian for “food baked in an oven,” and this new spot will showcase Old World techniques, including handcrafted mozzarella made daily, cavatelli (small dumpling-shaped pasta) and a variety of Neopolitan-style pizzas baked in wood-burning ovens. Neopolitan pizzas, by the way, are pizzas in the classic style of Naples, Italy, with simple tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella.

A beautiful Italian flywheel slicer slices paper-thin Italian meats, served with a variety of olives and caponata. Satisfying pastas, velvety seasonal risottos and fresh seafood and vegetables will celebrate the delectable diversity of Italian cuisine with authentic ingredients and recipes from Italy’s various regions.

Italy is just half the size of Texas but has wonderfully diverse cuisine, and Trattoria al Forno will showcase dishes from Italy’s various regions – for instance, braised beef Bolognese with house-made cavatelli from Bologna, semolina tagliatelli carbonara from Latium (more specifically Rome), pork chop alla Milanese named after the city of Milano. And you’ll find classic Italian favorites: chicken breast alla Parmagiana with tagliatelle pasta; shrimp with garlic, capers and anchovy butter with polenta; whole roasted fish with roasted vegetables; baked lasagna; grilled steak; slow-cooked lamb shank with polenta; and eggplant rollatini.

A seasonal risotto will always be on the menu, and vegetarians will appreciate the ruffled campanelle pasta with green beans, roasted potatoes and Genovese pesto.

Add a classic Italian dessert with an after-dinner cappuccino for a perfect ending. Look for tiramisù, lemon panna cotta with almond crunch and berries, gelatos, and the signature bomboloni (Italian donut holes) with dark chocolate and vanilla gelato.

Wines will be 100 percent Italian from historic wine regions including Tuscany, Veneto and Piedmont, with over 60 offerings by the bottle and more than 25 wines by the glass – Chiantis, Super Tuscans and fine Italian white wines such as Prosecco, Pinot Grigio and Moscato. Signature cocktails and Italian beers and sodas round out the drink menu, with a signature-blend Italian coffee roasted just for Trattoria al forno.

I am kinda eh on this announcement. It sounds like so many of the other Italian places on site and Keith pretty much nixes Italian unless it is Via Napoli. I had been seeing the rumors for weeks but secretly hoped they would have a new innovative concept come in. But I will wait and see to form a real opinion!!
Maybe Keith will like it since they have the wood fired ovens like they do at Via Napoli plus, if you get him over to the Boardwalk, maybe he'll start thinking about DVC? Devious, aren't I? :cool1:

I am kinda with you... seems like an odd addition when there is already so many Italian style restaurants on property. Does this make 5 or 6?
Way too many IMO but I have no doubt that someone spent umpteen hours doing a survey to see what they could make the most $'s on!!! :rotfl2:

So glad to have found your report. I can't wait for more. You all seem to have such a wonderful time. I am waiting patiently for my solo trip in October. I hate to wish the summer away. I agree with everyone, another Italian restaurant so close to EPCOT and DHS is too bad. I have only eaten at Kouzzina's once but the Greek/Mediterranean is a great option.
Glad you could join us! We typically have a blast with a blow-up or two along the way to make things interesting! :lmao: When are you going in October? We will be there from 10/05-10/11.

I would love to go to WDW in May to see the Star Tours events but not sure $54/adult would be worth it either. Great pics of the event and fireworks!
It was a bit pricey but like most things at Disney, you gotta try it at least once!

I cant' believe that Kouzzina's is closing down for another restaurant. Although I love Italian restaurants and still haven't eaten at the Tutto Italia yet, I love Kouzzina's. We always stay at BWV and love the atmosphere of the boardwalk and the restaurants.
That area is the main reason we sold our DVC at OKW and VWL and bought at BWV and BCV. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with any of the DVC resorts but we just like the location and the activities at the EPCOT resorts.

Hope your daughter's eye feels better by her second day! Good call on her part - glad she went to get meds for it.

Looking forward to reading about Day 2!
We were lucky that's all it was and it didn't slow her down a bit. Stay tuned...there's an update coming real soon!!

It's time for another update! I really need to finish this TR before we leave on our next trip...more on that later.

Monday – June 2, 2014

Today is kind of two-faced. We start off going pretty strong by returning to DHS where we have all our FP+ reservations and an ADR at Sci-Fi Drive-In all before 1pm. With DHS having the tiered system for FP+, we could not get TSM and RnR Coaster on the same day. DD and DSiL like RnR so we are returning to DHS this morning. Afterwards we go back to the room because I have a surprise mother-daughter massage at Mandara Spa scheduled for this afternoon followed by dinner at Shula’s. We’re going strong in the a.m. and chillin’ in the p.m.! It wasn’t a complete surprise for the massage because I had to tell them the night before so they could be sure and “prepare” themselves for their respective masseuses. You ladies reading know what I’m talking about and you men, well, take my word for it, don’t surprise a female with a massage unless she has “smoothed” her legs beforehand!! She will appreciate the gesture more if given a heads up, or is that legs up....no...that just doesn't sound right, does it? :rolleyes1

We start off with breakfast at Starring Rolls Cafe. DW and I found this little gem a few years ago and now it our go-to breakfast place at DHS. We had a cinnamon bun, croissant, ham sandwiches, juice, water and iced coffee.

For QS, this place is really good. The only complaint is there is no room inside and few seats outside but for food quality alone, it rates a

B

Since we were able to ride this twice yesterday

We changed our FP+ reservations to add the Great Movie Ride that we did not get to yesterday and then headed to our first FP+ ride

And of course we have the ride pic

My back was not feeling so great this morning so I passed on Rock-n-Roller and as you can see, DW just can’t control herself when I’m not around! :sad2:
I’ve tried to tell y’all I was the sane, stoic one in the bunch! Trust me…I am!

Next up was the Great Movie Ride. It’s been a LONG time since we rode this one. I still need to learn how to take ride pics

My hero….the Duke

I like the GMR but they definitely need to upgrade it. There are rumors it will close but I hope it will be refurbished instead.

Up next was something DW & I tried for the first time last October – Animation Academy. As we were waiting, DD had to make a pit stop and as our luck would have it, they opened the doors to let us in while she was away. We saved two seats for her and DSiL but by the time they arrived, the class was half over. The CM told her that her grandparents were saving her a seat but they decided to not go in. GRANDPARENTS?!?!?! Geez.
I might have to rethink this whole attempt to “Don’t harass the Cast Member’s” this trip!! :sad2:
I enjoy this class but the animator CM let the class choose Elsa to draw and he had to go way too fast in his instructions in order to stay on schedule. Mine wasn’t that great but here it is

We had time before our ADR and the line at TSM wasn’t too long so we decided to visit this guy

And as usual…not a very good score but I did win (not that I would rub it in to DW or anything like that)

While walking around, we took advantage of the Memory Maker package again

Next up was or ADR here

This was a first for us and we were not disappointed. We had fried dill pickles to start off with (maybe that’s a Southern thing but we love ‘em!). We had burgers and a reuben sandwich and we shared a turtle cheesecake for dessert. I have no idea why I didn’t take a picture but the food was really good. The rating here

B+

Great food and a decent atmosphere. The movies are a throwback to the 50’s and if you’re too young to have seen them, please don’t judge that generation by them alone! It’s a bit pricey for burgers but it is also Disney. After your meal, you are given a Driver’s License. I have no idea why but here it is

(Continued in next post 2)

(Continued from previous post 2)

Our next FP+ was for Star Tours.

Again, I did not ride but I did get to watch the future saviors of the universe in training against the man in black

Then I had to embarrass DW & DD by getting my pic taken

I was going so fast on the racer that the brim of my hat turned up! That ended up being a running joke all week if I wanted to embarrass DW or DD…just turn my brim up, look my normal goofy self and speak with a bit (wee bit) of an exaggerated redneck accent! I don’t understand why anyone would run away from me when I did that?! As you can tell, I don't take myself too seriously...let's just say that work is rarely dull...especially around April Fool's day!! :woohoo: That's another story for another time though! :rolleyes1

As we headed back to our room, another MM pic

(Continued in next post 3)

(Continued from previous post 3)

A few pics on the boat ride back to BWV

Now honestly, does anyone think that looks like a dolphin? Here is a pic of dolphins from our trip a few years ago to Discovery Cove

That thing on top of the Dolphin resort looks more like a deformed goldfish!

More pics on the trip back to BWV

This is where we will be in October!

For those that have not been to the EPCOT resort area, in the preceeding pic you can see how close the resorts are to EPCOT with that great big silver ball in the background.

Even after 32 years, I kinda like that view of DW! It's worth it to embarrass her or get her ticked off just so she'll walk away...but don't tell her I said that! :worship:

(Continued in next post 4)

Great updates...keep them coming! You're making me excited to stay at BWV! Our 180 day mark is a week away :)

(Continued from previous post 4)

Once back in our room, DW and DD got ready for their massage and DSiL and I decided to walk around the World Showcase since it’s only a few minutes walk from the room. Have I mentioned how much I like staying at BWV or BCV? :thumbsup2

The King Arthur Holy Grail troupe entertaining in UK

We decided to get some water as we passed the Refreshment Port. To my surprise, they also offered...for your snacking pleasure…a Croissant Donut or more lovingly know as a CroNut! OMG!!! They were fresh and warm and oh so good!!! I didn't get a pic because that thing was consumed faster than a hot knife thru butter so I stole one from the internet

People, people, people…you have got to try this. It is right up there with a Mickey Bar or a Dole Whip! Yup…it’s that good!

DSiL and I continued our trek around the WS. At some point DW and DD caught up with us and we told them about the cronut so they had to try one. Back at the Refreshment Port they each got a caramel coffee and a cronut. They screwed up on DW’s coffee so they gave her the correct one for free. pixiedust:

(Continued from previous post 5)

Next up was our ADR here

As most of you know, Shula’s is located in the Dolphin resort. It is a chain started by the former Miami Dolphin’s head coach Don Shula. In addition, as is usually the case at either the Swan or Dolphin, there is some kind of convention staying here. As a result, the place was packed and very, very loud. I’m sure the adult beverages on expense accounts had nothing to do with that either. :drinking1

A few tips about eating here – bring your appetite. The steaks range from 12oz to 48oz. There isn’t a petite 6oz or 8oz entrée here. They take TIW but a better deal is to register online for their birthday club. It was DSiL’s birthday that week so I registered him and as a result, you get a free entrée. That’s a better deal than the TIW 20% off unless one check is paying for 5 or more in your party. The Swan & Dolphin at this time do not allow you to charge anything (meal, spa, souvenirs) to your Magic Bands so make sure you take a different form of payment. I’d hate to see you washing dishes! :scared:

Now for the meal. They bring out a meat display cart before your meal to show you each cut of meat and the size in order to assist in your selection. There are numerous staff working each table so you will get all the attention you desire. We didn’t feel rushed at all and the wait staff was not intrusive at all. They were top notch. I was off my game that night because I only took two pics of the meal. The first is what’s left of my 22oz Cowboy cut steak

The next is a pic of DW’s 24oz Prime Rib

DSiL had a 24oz Porterhouse and DD had the 16oz Chicken Breast. No pics but REALLY...Chicken at a Steak place?!?! :sad2:

Now for the review. The prices are a bit more than Le Cellier or Yachtsman Steakhouse but you also don’t get such a large cut of beef at either of those places. The atmosphere would have been very nice had it not been for the noisy convention goers present but it still was as upscale as any place in WDW except V&A. As I said earlier, the wait staff were really good. The food was also very good. I’m a bit of a steak snob because I have yet to find any restaurant that can cook a steak as well as we do at home. Some have come close but only one has ever exceeded those cooked on our grill and unfortunately that restaurant was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. With that said, I would have to give Shula’s an

A-

It was really that good but the noise level keeps this from getting a higher rating. A more extensive wine/beer list would have definitely helped as well. The adult beverage selection was obviously enough for others and what we had was a decent pairing but a larger selection would have been nice.

And that was that for us on this day. The leisurely walk back to our room was nice. We crawled into bed about 10:30. Next up for us tomorrow is Animal Kingdom.

We have fried pickles here in Canada too! I love them so much! :goodvibes I'm seriously considering changing my ADR from Mama Melrose to Sci-Fi now for those. Shulu's looks really good too. We've been to Le Cellier (I was not impressed but DH was) and Yachtsman which we both really enjoy. I don't think they do but I just thought I'd ask, does Shulu's take the DDP?

Just joining in and loving it! I have not added the Cronut to my MUST eat foods for our next trip.

I was hopelessly behind because I have been away from the DIS for awhile. But then I saw your doppleganger this weekend (unless you happened to be at the Bass Pro in Baton Rouge :lmao:) and it reminded me to come check it out!

What a sucky start, having to go straight to an urgent care! It really sucks when you know exactly what's wrong, and you also know you can't treat it on your own. :sad2:

We have never gotten a text about our room being ready. Ever. I have to imagine they don't actually do it. :rotfl:

Too bad about the rain at the dessert party. That can definitely put a damper on an event you paid a lot for.

Holy moly, those are some gigantic steaks!!! :faint: I feel stuffed just thinking about that many ounces of meat.

Buahahahahaha! You are quite right about women prepping for their massages! Need to ask if that is something you learned the hard way or if you are just that observant!?

Hmm those drivers license at the SciFi must be new, or you're just special! Have never seen them before! Happy that you liked it! Surprised you had never been before! Food is not the best sometimes but you really can't beat that atmosphere!

Hee! Love your SW pic! You look like you mean serious business!

Another great update!! :cool1:

We have fried pickles here in Canada too! I love them so much! :goodvibes I'm seriously considering changing my ADR from Mama Melrose to Sci-Fi now for those.
We ate at Mama Melrose several years ago and loved it. The choices are so different between it and Sci-Fi but both are very good.

Shulu's looks really good too. We've been to Le Cellier (I was not impressed but DH was) and Yachtsman which we both really enjoy. I don't think they do but I just thought I'd ask, does Shulu's take the DDP?
I don't think any of the restaurants at the Swan & Dolphin participate in the DDP. Check to make sure though. We haven't used the DDP in 4 years. We found that TIW works better for us and the restaurants at Swan & Dolphin do take TIW.

Just joining in and loving it! I have not added the Cronut to my MUST eat foods for our next trip.
Thanks for joining in! The cronut is as much a "must have" item as a Dole whip or a Mickey bar!

I was hopelessly behind because I have been away from the DIS for awhile. But then I saw your doppleganger this weekend (unless you happened to be at the Bass Pro in Baton Rouge :lmao:) and it reminded me to come check it out!
Uh oh...someone else walking around that looks like me?!?! Poor guy. We weren't in BR but we were in NOLA Saturday! Those summer Coolinary menus at many of the better restaurants keep luring DW and I down there! :thumbsup2

What a sucky start, having to go straight to an urgent care! It really sucks when you know exactly what's wrong, and you also know you can't treat it on your own. :sad2:
It could have been much, much worse but as it turned out, it was just a minor blip on the radar screen for our trip!

We have never gotten a text about our room being ready. Ever. I have to imagine they don't actually do it. :rotfl:
It might be an evil plan to keep you out of your room so you'll go somewhere and spend money! It's a conspiracy I tell you...a conspiracy!!! :lmao:

Too bad about the rain at the dessert party. That can definitely put a damper on an event you paid a lot for.
I'm surprised the Department of Health will allow them to have the food outside uncovered.

Holy moly, those are some gigantic steaks!!! :faint: I feel stuffed just thinking about that many ounces of meat.
It was a lot and yes we did take some back to the room. DSiL is not much of a veggie eater so he snacked on the leftovers!

Buahahahahaha! You are quite right about women prepping for their massages! Need to ask if that is something you learned the hard way or if you are just that observant!?
I could lie and say I was observant but like most men...we learn the hard way! :rolleyes1

Hmm those drivers license at the SciFi must be new, or you're just special! Have never seen them before! Happy that you liked it! Surprised you had never been before! Food is not the best sometimes but you really can't beat that atmosphere!
Sci-Fi is definitely on our list to return when we have tried most everything else!

Hee! Love your SW pic! You look like you mean serious business!
I gotta be me...even if it does embarrass those around me! :cool1:

Another great update!! :cool1:
Thanks so much. I've got to kick this TR up a notch. We can start making reservations for F&W 7/31 so I need to get a move on and start prepping for the next trip!

Next trip? More on that later? I thought you were going in October? Is there something we don't know.

OK, I am super rushed because I have to get to the state fair tonight and I am not in my uniform yet, but this update was freaking hysterical.

Your picture was LOL funny! you know the one I'm talking about!

GRANDPARENTS?????? OMG! I would have died! Some old man thought I was Cynthia's mother when we were walking to the bus over at OKW. I'm really not sure which is worse.

Back with more comments but gotta go! :moped:

I will be arriving just as you leave. Oct 11 - Oct 17. Too bad. It would have been fun to say hello. When my sister and I go together, we call our one blow-out a Disney snit. Just the one and then it's back to having fun. We have a small farm and a few elderly pets (both house and barn) and we have recently taken to going solo leaving the other sister at home. It helps with the stress levels from when we are both away. We have a great house sitter, but with all the furry and feathered crew, it is a lot to leave. Especially when they are older. Anyway, we don't mind a break from each other too. ;)

I'm playing catch up again (and it will get worse as we are going to Vegas next Thursday for a long weekend and I am NOT taking my computer).

Back to your update:

We love Starring Rolls; and the portions are big enough that you can usually share.

Sorry that your back was bothering you and you missed Rock & Roll. If I had been there, I would have kept you company...but then I don't do that ride ever!

You got great shots in the Great Movie Ride. I'm with you...a major update of some kind is needed.

That's a pretty darn good drawing of Elsa.

We have NEVER gotten a Drivers License at Sci Fi and we've been numerous times. Did you not get the onion rings? BEST THING ON THE MENU!

I can't do Star Tours...makes my tummy feel funny.

Great photopass pictures.

Congrats on 32 years (we celebrated 31 in May). I promise I won't tell your wife about the picture. :)

Nice of you to treat the gals to a massage. And yes...we definitely need to know ahead of time. ;)

I have the CRONUT at the top of my list for September; we totally forgot in June.

We have a Shula's in Chicago and one or two of the suburbs. Friends took us for my DH's 60th birthday in 2013. It was up to that time the best steak we'd ever had (then we went to Morton's Steakhouse for our anniversary in May with the same friends and Shula's comes in second now). Fabulous service, great food. I think since we have two here that is why we've not done the one in Disney.

Can't wait to hear all about the Animal Kingdom. I recall how you are with the CM's there from your last TR!

Next trip? More on that later? I thought you were going in October? Is there something we don't know.
No...that is the next trip...so far! ;)

OK, I am super rushed because I have to get to the state fair tonight and I am not in my uniform yet, but this update was freaking hysterical.
What can I say...I gotta be me! Wait a minute...state fair...uniform...what are going to be?!?! (I am withholding comment for fear of flying objects coming my way!)

Your picture was LOL funny! you know the one I'm talking about!
See previous response.

GRANDPARENTS?????? OMG! I would have died! Some old man thought I was Cynthia's mother when we were walking to the bus over at OKW. I'm really not sure which is worse.
It's bad enough that everyone calls me Mister but now grandpa?!?! Considering the fact that DS1 is married but both he and his wife swear they're never having kids; DS2 will probably never marry much less have kids and DD is in medical school so she better NOT get pregnant any time soon...I can't see any grandchildren in my near future! I think you have me beat though...at least I'm old enough to be a grandpa...there's no way you could be thought of as Cynthia's mother...I think that CM was on drugs that day!! :headache:

I will be arriving just as you leave. Oct 11 - Oct 17. Too bad. It would have been fun to say hello.
Awww...I'm always up for a meet but we'll be leaving by auto on the 11th about 8:00am. I'll wave at you up in the sky as you're flying in! :)

I'm playing catch up again (and it will get worse as we are going to Vegas next Thursday for a long weekend and I am NOT taking my computer).
Put a nickel in for me on the progressive slots and if we win, we'll build a house at Disney's Golden Oak! :lmao:

We love Starring Rolls; and the portions are big enough that you can usually share.
It has become our "go to" breakfast place at DHS.

Sorry that your back was bothering you and you missed Rock & Roll. If I had been there, I would have kept you company...but then I don't do that ride ever!
The woes of age but it would have been worth it to sit out and chat with you! :thumbsup2

You got great shots in the Great Movie Ride. I'm with you...a major update of some kind is needed.
Thanks but I still need major practice on the dark rides and if they're not going to update the GMR, then close it.

That's a pretty darn good drawing of Elsa.
Thanks again but I wasn't pleased with it. I had to draw too fast and I was constantly looking for DD and DSiL to come in so I could show them the seats we were saving. I'll do better next time.

We have NEVER gotten a Drivers License at Sci Fi and we've been numerous times. Did you not get the onion rings? BEST THING ON THE MENU!
I wanted the onion rings but I got out voted for the fried dill pickles. They were very good but next time it's onion rings!

I can't do Star Tours...makes my tummy feel funny.
Ditto...I haven't been on Star Tours in a LONG time because it did me that way at that time. It might be different now but I didn't want to risk it. Besides, I can sit for hours people watching and taking pics and be perfectly happy!

Great photopass pictures.
Each time we go I say we are not going to get the PhotoPass package or now the Memory Maker but each time I get it and I'm glad we did.

Congrats on 32 years (we celebrated 31 in May). I promise I won't tell your wife about the picture. :)
She should be used to it by now. The big difference this time is she didn't see me taking a picture so I didn't get the obligatory rolling of the eyes afterwards! :lmao:

Nice of you to treat the gals to a massage. And yes...we definitely need to know ahead of time. ;)
I aims to please ma'am!

I have the CRONUT at the top of my list for September; we totally forgot in June.
It is definitely one of the top 3 snacks for me. Too bad you will be leaving in September a week or so before we arrive.

We've heard that Morton's was that good. Our little burg is not big enough for the higher end restaurants but New Orleans is less than 2 hours away and there is a Morton's there. We have it on our list to go this year before a Saints home game!

Can't wait to hear all about the Animal Kingdom. I recall how you are with the CM's there from your last TR!
GULP!! That's the problem with these TRs...things like that are now out there for eternity and for everyone to remember! :lmao: I promised I wouldn't mess with the CMs this trip and so far I've been good....so far!
