We didn't take it. We were the second people in the terminal and there were four 1-bedroom suites available. We'd decided that if it was $1500 or less we'd do it but we felt this was more than it was worth to us. We like the room we'd picked already anyhow.

Any upgrades on the Magic recently? We sail in less than 2 weeks and would love to book snag a verandah for the first time (this will be cruise #10 for us).

I just found this thread, which could be the "worst" thing to happen to my planning adventure!

I'm currently booked into a Cat T one bedroom on the Magic. For our cruise, though, it seems that both of the 2 bedroom suites are still showing for sale, but the two Royal suites are booked. For a small family of 3, is there any real benefits to move up to a 2 Bed, if offered at the port during check-in? I haven't seen a detailed breakdown of square footage, but my gut feeling is that the additional space (all?) goes into the second bedroom area.

Any tips & insight would be appreciated!

For just three of you the 1BR should work just fine. That said, the 2BR is huge. A lot of space goes into the 2nd BR but the living space is big much larger than the 1BR, and the veranda is bigger. The bathrooms are enormous, especially the master (and you get the extra 1/2 bath). Another advantage to the 2nd BR is that someone isn't sleeping in the living area and that space is free for early risers to mosey around in. Additionally, with the 2BR you can order room service from Palo (something you can't do with the 1BR - not a huge perk, but it matters to some people). If you can bump to the 2BR for a reasonable amount at port then it might be worth it, but the 1BR should be ample for 3 of you.

Having been in them with your family size no benefit at all bar prestige.

Thanks arlopop, appreciate the insight. That seems to be along the lines of my expectations. I do put some value on the Palo in-room, but we would need to eat a few dinners each night for that alone to justify the upcharge :D. With this many sea days, the extra living space might come in handy to have an escape from the larger public spaces, so that's a consideration.

Thanks DISNEY FANTASY, I'm not too willing to pay for prestige alone. Space, certainly - that's the one thing that you pay dearly for on planes & ships.

With only two 2BR cabins on the ship, and months to go before our sail date, I doubt there will be a choice at check-in anyway. Now, if someone has to cancel one of the Royals...

Just came back from the EBTA.

#1 Was upgrade available? Yes. There was a one bedroom (Cat T) and a two bedroom (Cat S) suite available. I am pretty sure that there were lower categories available but I am not sure which ones.
#2. What category did you pay for? 4A
#3. Which Ship? Magic
#4. Number of Nights? 14
#5. Month/day/year of Sailing? May 15 2016
#6. What time did you check-in? We were on the first bus from MCO...so maybe 10:15. We went directly to check in, while others stopped to fill out customs forms, and we were the first at the supervisor desk. We took the Cat T and the family behind us took the Cat S.
#7. What category were you offered for upgrade? 1 or 2 bed concierge
#8. How much was the upgrade? Cat T was $2600. The upgrade to the Cat S was $4400.

As others have mentioned, there was a grid for the upgrade pricing. It said "Transatlantic, 7 day Alaska, Panama Canal" at the top, so hope this helps anyone looking at those cruises.

That's a pretty good deal for a Cat T!

this is probably a dumb question, but if there are no 1BR available before sailing, there is no chance for upgrade right? or do they hold any back for any reason?

The room that we upgraded into was not showing online as available prior to sailing, however the 2 BR suite also available DID show up available.

We thought so, too! The price difference prior to sailing, if I had not upgraded at port, would have been a little over $12,000.
