News Round Up 2016

I don't like the idea of the cabanas, but I don't really have an argument against it. If you want to pay for it and you find a value in the idea, then go ahead. For me real problem is that when people pay for this kind of stuff, Disney feels encouraged to make more and more of these decisions, and I fear the day they'll be charging a premium for using the FP system or even for using the toilets. No, perhaps that will never happen, but there's evidence of some questionable recent decisions.

I do think a lot of what these types of things do is creates a negative vibe around what "might" happen ... though, so far I'd say 99% of the extras really don't impact the regular park guest (or as I tend to call, the baseline experience)

Disney’s ‘Moana’ has already surpassed ‘Frozen’ in Pre-Thanksgiving Box Office sales. I doubt the trend holds (it would have to completely surprise to outlast Frozen) but this has the makings of yet another cash boon for Disney. I am sure the IP will soon be everywhere in the park.

It's actually now behind (about $1M) after counting Thursday BO sales...we'll see how it holds for the weekend.

From what's been said that will be the only AA of that caliber in the entire land. You'll see maybe a couple other simple AAs but the boat ride is only 4ish minutes so they are focusing a lot on projections and bioluminescence.

When I first read this my reaction was "ONLY 4 minutes?!" But then I realized Aretha Franklin turned 4 minutes into eternity on Thanksgiving so maybe 4 minutes is enough. I was expecting a boat ride more in line with Pirates (15 min) or at least IASW (8 min).

This probably makes me a hypocrite but I would totally consider paying for private bathrooms. :)

Have you never heard of Club 33 at Disneyland? Membership costs more than the purchase price of my car. This is nothing new. Just... tackier.

Yes, I've heard of it. I know this is nothing new. I've paid for Halloween parties and WOC dessert parties and Christmas parties and all the other stuff. I would put Club 33 in a different category than ugly white canvas tents in the middle of Tomorrowland, both practically and philosophically.

Such as? Go ahead, put words in my mouth.

Wealthy special needs guests? How is working 20 hours a week at minimum wage make someone wealthy?

Many special needs guests like my nephew have far fewer desires (like cars they can't drive and electronics they can't operate, expensive foods that dont impress them etc) in the real world, leaving extra money for making the few things in a shortened life expectancy they do request, more enhanced. This exactly one of those.

I don't understand the disagreement. 20 hrs/week at minimum wage is not going to get a Disney trip any time soon, let alone a $650 cabana. My point was that these kinds of should be available to anyone who needs them, not just those whose families can afford to pay for them. Perhaps I should have used the phrases special needs guests with wealthy families? The comment I replied to mentioned people who need to medicate, have sensory issues, etc - I included all those in my use of 'special needs'.

What you are not grasping is that many families that have a special needs (even handicap) family member are middle class, and can make a trip to WDW once a year or so a priority. Not only elite folks can afford a WDW trip.

So I assume we can agree on that correct?

Now you have the large population of special needs individuals that indeed do work as well. They often have far fewer needs and expensive desires to spend that money on.

So a lot of their money can be used for the few things they do desire, and should be IMO. Many probably hate crowds and noise and have no desire to visit WDW, but many do. Many can put up with some crowds and noise but need more breaks.

Further more, even special needs that do not work, often have middle class families that go to WDW. $650 will make the MK much better for the entire family, including siblings not having to go home early, taking turns with breaks/shots/feeding tubes/meds etc.

I assume we can agree $650 does not move a family from middle class to elite/wealthy. Even $10,000 won't. $100, 000?

Lastly, no not every special needs or handicapped individual should get a complimentary cabana (as nice as that would be) just because another family (with a special needs) can choose to save and budget for one. Those are not protected by law.

A deluxe resort walking distance (wheel chair) from MK is not complementary either.

One family might be staying off site saving $300 a week over value, or $650 a week over mod, or $2,000 a week over deluxe etc, some spend more on dining, or hoppers and shopping.

I feel like this is becoming circular and unproductive. Can we bury the horse we keep beating? It died several posts ago.

That tram has been sitting in the MK lot for close to three months now and hasn't moved. Acourding to the guys I've talked to in parking they didint know anything about its arrival yet alone even have keys for it.

News

The Lily Belle has officially returned to park operation at the Magic Kingdom.

Yes! And she looks beautiful!

Monorail Coral also came back online late last week and was loading guests on Sunday.

Sure, but you asked 2 posts b4, but sounds like you finally get it so that's good enough for me. Onwards.
