This Is Us- Season two

Huge fan of the show, but one thing surprised me: Springsteen did not play the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh on Jan. 31, 1998. He did not tour that year, but did play a benefit concert for a slain police officer in Red Bank, NJ.

As a Springsteen fan originally from NJ who's lived in Pittsburgh for the last 32 years, I kept a close eye on the Boss. I googled a bit and found this:

I looked it up too. He was in the next town over from us on that night.

It was an interesting show. Wasn't expecting all of the time spent on the jeep though that has opened up many story lines for the future and not just those related to the car.
When he said he had a surprise for them on Saturday, that line caught me as I was thinking it will be a surprise they won't expect--his funeral. Then, for some reason I also thought about concert tickets like he mentioned to Kate.
Loved the scene with the OB and what he said to Kate. Also how Randall and Kevin seemed to come together towards the end in the car after all the animosity between them up until then.
Also, Rebecca's statement to Kate that Jack was a grown man and made his own decision to go back for the dog and her statements for them to be kids and that they would be fine. She now has to take over and become the rock for this family.
Looking forward to all of the shows to come, so many possibilities with the family , Jack (and his brother), the flash forwards.

Yeah, well, they seem to think that Pittsburgh is an easy drive from NYC/NJ, and it's more like a 6-8 hour one. It kind of bugs me, in that they could have picked a different home town way back when, that was a little more believable. Do they really think nobody knows where Pittsburgh actually is?

I'm not sure what you mean when you say a hometown that was more believable than Pittsburgh.

The concert tickets show a venue that actually exists in Pittsburgh; that makes sense. They should be seeing a concert in Pittsburgh, since that's where they live. It just surprised me that the concert they had tickets for in Pittsburgh at the Benedum Center on 1/31/98 never really happened. They've always done such a great job with accuracy.

Does it really matter if there was a real Springsteen concert on that day? Doesn't change the story line. The fictional father in a captivating story left his family concert tickets to see a performer who was very popular at the time of the setting of the story. To me, that's pretty darn good regardless of if Springsteen was in that venue on that day. Does not take away from the story.

It's not a documentary on real lives.

I agree. I don't understand the need to nit pick apart a fictional show about an event that doesn't change anything about the major plot line.

Not nit picking. Just making an observation that surprised me. This thread is filled with various observations.

I’m with you. I watch a lot of movies and afterward, I go on IMDB to read the trivia and errors. Some of the things pointed out make me thing ‘who really caaaaares?

I’m sure this episode has an entry that says..their Wagoneer has a turn signal that sounds like ‘click, click, click’ but on this episode it CLEARLY sounded like ‘click, click, clack’. Totally unrealistic and ruined the whole episode for me.

I thought the comment about "more believable hometown" was based more on the fact that the family seems to zip back and forth between NYC and Pittsburgh like they're right next to each other. If they wanted the present day family to be living in/near NYC, and they wanted to still go be able to visit the old neighborhood at will, why did they choose Pittsburgh? Or conversely, if Pittsburgh was an important starting point, why move the family to NYC as adults? I'm not trying to be nit-picky. I'm truly curious about the reason for the choices. It *is* fictional. They could have had them be anywhere.

Exactly! They could have been from any one of many suburbs or smaller cities within a drive to NYC. They could have even still been Steelers fans. I happen to like Pittsburgh--it's a much nicer, prettier city than most people seem to think. It's just closer to Ohio than Manhattan.

I finally got up the nerve to watch this morning. I knew it would be hard and it was. One of my best friends lost her husband just over a month ago and I'm still pretty affected by that.

Loved the scene with Dr. K.

And I loved seeing Rebecca summoning her inner strength, right up to driving over that bridge. I'm curious now to see how that strong woman becomes the seemingly meek wig wearing Rebecca in the more recent scenes.

I know, this bugs me as well. I think they mixed up Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

We're in NJ near the PA border. Pittsburgh is at least a 6 hour drive but Philadelphia is under an hour.

Well, since we can't see Sterling in the show for another couple of weeks, it sure was nice to see him in Black Panther! He did an excellent job, as expected.

I went to the NBC Experience store yesterday. They had a few pieces of merchandise but it didn't wow me. There were just tee shirts and coffee mugs that said "This Is Us"
