Disney Resorts to start charging parking fees....

You know the resorts on the gondola are going to get price hikes when it’s finished

YUP, just thinking about POP Century over $200 a night .................. really have no words. Stayed there over 30 times, kinda sad that I probably won't go back again. But I just demand more for my money.

PS - We really don't know much about the gondolas, Disney is being coy and have said very little. The big posters on the walls and renderings make them look small, single cable with multiple stations that you likely have to change. The number of rooms at POP, AOA, CBR, Riveria and the guests at both ends trying to use them ................ I'm not believing anything folks are conjecturing about on this. We'll just have to wait and see particularly when it comes to - weather, lightning, air conditioning, W/C friendly and placing strangers in them together ............. let alone my big issue; Disney's poor evacuation record.

Capacity is estimated at 4000-5000 people per hour. A bus holds 60 or so.

...But what is the hourly capacity for buses in comparison?

Like HopperFan, I can see some not wanting to ride the gondolas, especially in bad weather. Also, as HopperFan mentioned, all the changes may impact. Will Guests have to wait in line at each station, how will the connections between stations work? ...Sorry, Krandor, I'm thinking of you as the expert here! :-)... I can see long lines to get on them at all, at least to begin with. Buses aren't so exciting!!

Yes... same or better usually than what you get at a value resort for $10-$15, and it's all you can eat.
If your comparing to a sit down breakfast in a deluxe, then yes, there is a difference.

I agree! We have stayed at holiday inns and Marriotts/Spring Hill suites with free breakfast and free parking outside of Boston and southern VT as well as other places...a Hilton in OCMd was free parking on the beach!

I have to say the breakfasts were fine for me, cereal, toast, bagels, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, bacon...mmm...bacon, sausage, different styles of eggs-hard boiled, scrambled, some kind of wrap, muffins, make your own pancakes. Milk, juices, water, coffee, tea oh and fresh fruit-bananas, apples, oranges, cinnamon rolls.... Free, well paid for by my room rate which is typically under $200.

I don't get their logic. Not all families fly to Orlando for whatever reason. If the cost to stay on site is too high they will chose to stay off site. They will save quite a bit and many have a free breakfast (Industry Standard). If you are driving to Orlando, you are not using Magical Express obviously. And once you are in the parks you can use the Disney Buses & Monorail.

The only perk for anyone to stay on site at this point us FP's. (that I can see)

I don't think they thought this through. They may have eliminated the car rentals but those families who drive may drive on to another resort that is cheaper and usually has transportation to the parks.

A little OT, but I gotta ask—which is the hotter topic? Dog friendly resort rooms? Or this one—free parking going away? :rotfl2:

Hmmm...I’m guessing the parking.

I’m not a huge fan of the dog policy, but it isn’t a deal-breaker for me. And, it is a benefit for some guests.

The parking thing is plain and simply a money grab, and while it doesn’t affect everyone, I think a lot of folks are wondering what they’re going to charge for next...

i see a lot of people is this thread wondering if they will be charged for parking at the parks.... they are already charging for parking at the parks and have been for some years now.

I think people are talking about on-site guests, who currently do not have to pay to park at the parks.

Yes, but not charging everyone (like resort guests and AP holders). That is what people are wondering might change.

HATE the dog policy, poorly thought out, lax rules that are not good for guests or the dogs and zero enforcement of what they do have ..... BUT at least for now folks can choose to stay away from them. A few resorts are connected so need to think twice on those as the dogs have been on the move. NOTE: I have two very spoiled very much my children dogs. One would hate being at Disney, one would love it ... neither will get to go because I'm there to go to the parks and I'm not leaving a dog in the room that long.

But this ............. not optional, no way to avoid and cash money out your pocket. 47 years that parking spot was included ........... now the cash grab .... for something required by law. Not discussed or announced, just slid in there to hit in a week's time ... on top of climbing rates that are obscene.

Just hate that this is like the final straw to the slow de-Disney-fying of the resorts - for me. I am sure there will be some more changes that are "industry standards" and that is too bad because Disney was always that special place unlike all the others.

One version of the Parking section on the WDW website today had eliminated the line that said Disney Resorts get parking at parks for free. It was a question folks had if it had been another eliminated perk. But it seems to be back again.

So what about FW cabins and parking? Do they fall under the umbrella of FW campsites that is exempt from imposing this fee? It looks like it is classified as a moderate.
