I love credit cards so much!

How do you use/redeem MRs? That's how I'd determine if this is truly something you're "missing out" on :)

We have used them in the past for tickets to Hawaii during xmas as well as first/business air to Europe. I'm mainly saving them for overseas travel at this point. We aren't willing to sit in coach for those long haul 10+ hour flights, and no way can we pay cash for those seats. No overseas trips are planned at the moment - we just got back from one and aren't the type of people to take a big trip like that every year. Our last college tuition payment will be this December, though, so perhaps we could travel more in the future.

The PRG would put DH at 5/24 in two months, when Amex gets around to reporting it to the bureaus, and it finally shows up on DH’s credit report for Chase to see whenever you apply for a card with them. Before then, Chase has no way of knowing DH has this new card.

So true. And I think one card will fall off in March or May (I'd have to check again to see). Also we don't have a particular Chase card in mind. This AMEX looks interesting since we spend quite a bit on food and it would be nice to get some extra MRs for that.

@SouthFayetteFan - So make that 10/24 now. I finally managed to get the PRG offer to pull up for 50,000 MR and was approved instantly!
I’d love to know how you managed, too. I tried the incognito with cleared cookies, etc all evening and couldn’t pull it up. :( I was hoping to get it before I fly to England tomorrow so it would be waiting for me when I got home. Maybe I’ll have better luck on a computer there.

It’s like a Tile, if you know what those are. Basically it’s a tag that you attach to your stuff, and acts as a kind of tracker if you can’t find your stuff. I haven’t used a Beagle, but there should be an app that goes with the tag and uses Bluetooth to find the tag and your stuff within a limited range.

It was a nice surprise getting a boxed gift in the mail. I saw the news about it, but didn’t expect one since I’ve never been picked to get any of the gifts that Amex sends out to their cardmembers.
I got mine Friday. I figured everyone would get one.

You can't add a business card to a personal account. I had to create a separate biz account, then call Chase and have them add my existing personal card to the biz account. It was super easy and only took about 5 minutes!

Thank you! Were you then able to transfer points earned from your business account to your personal ones?

Congrats! How did you get the offer to pull up? On card match I only get Chase and CapOne offers -- not any AmEx at all . . . is there another route?

It took multiple attempts over a couple of days before I could get it to pull up. Incognito on Chrome did not work and clearing cookies on explorer did not work, neither did any attempts on my iPhone or iPad. I did not try firefox but that was going to be next. Private browsing on IE finally worked.

Nice! My P2 really wanted to get this card, but it would put him at 5/24 so I told him to wait and think about it. Serious FOMO here, though. It must be very liberating not to have to worry about the x/24 number. Congrats!

I picked it up because I was able to pull it up at 50K which I've never been able to do before. It is liberating to not worry about the x/24 number to be honest. At the same time though, if Chase comes out with something new and exciting, I have to watch on the sidelines. Holding 10 Chases cards and being at 10-14/24 at any given moment means I don't churn Chase cards and I don't apply for Chase cards even the ones that aren't subject to 5/24 anymore. That boat has sailed for me.

Congratulations! Great bonus and first year benefits, and it looks like it’s going to be a keeper!

But how do you not already have, or have you never had the PRG?!

Thank you and yes it is! Once 4x on dining kicks in, assuming it goes as we all expect it will replace the CSR for dining. Fortunately, the majority of restaurants we frequent do take Amex. The CSR is always in the wallet so if we come across one that doesn't it isn't a big deal. DH was approved last night too. Each of us can also easily swing by a Cheesecake factory and/or a Ruth Chris to see about picking up a $10 GC each month. Heck, even if they don't sell at $10 denominations I'd be fine with a $20 GC each month. I'd let them pile up like we do with the AA gift cards and then go out to dinner. If I wind up with 1/2 off with stock piled GCs that would be great.

With the exception of the Everyday card and the BBP card which are no fee, I've never bothered with an Amex MR card unless I was getting 100K or better. The only exception was when I was able to get the personal platinum without the lifetime language for 60K a few months after I cancelled the one I'd picked up for 100K. The other Amex cards I've focused on were SPG, the old Hilton Surpass, and my new favorite, the Aspire.

I have to acknowledge that we were SUPER fortunate with how things worked out for us. We barely beat the 48 month rule and shutdown purge (and I'm still sweating that one). I hammered AMEX before their whole popup debacle started...Heck I'm probably part of the reason the popup exists. I went and hit 14 AMEX cards in 16 months without spending a dime over the MSR on each card, LOL!

I'd guess I could come up with a strategy now to make it work again but it would look different and be much less lucrative. I honestly can't even begin to ponder how I'd go about it as I'm so happy to be where I am now, LOL! It's hard to look back and think what that was like. My wife is now 2/24. I'm 13/24 but I have 7 cards dropping off in Oct/Nov so I will be 6/24 come December.

I'm still very excited for what we can do with this < 5/24 status in 2019 & 2020. My wife can still hit CIC, CIU, SW Biz, SW Personal and she'd still be at 3/24 after all of that. I've got designs of a CIP, CIC, CIU, CSR or CSP, SW Biz, SW Personal. We may even cross-refer CF and CFU. It could be a great run for the next 18 or so months!!

I couldn't in good conscience advise somebody who was sitting at 15/24 to attempt to go under 5/24 (even if they were in 2 player mode). I'm not saying it would be a bad decision, it's just with the way things seem to change on a moment's notice, I wouldn't want to responsible for that strategy. If somebody wants to go with it though and has a good plan then I'd say good for them!

I think it is awesome they way you have managed to stay in the game and navigate your way below 5/24.

I was just checking out the AwardHacker site thanks @Albort and saw the DoC post regarding Amex 40% transfer credit for British Air right now. Would it be stupid of me to transfer points to take advantage of the 40% even though I do not have a specific flight in mind? I saw possible awards for CHI to Orlando (15k r/t), which would be pretty easy for me to use and CHI to Dublin (40k r/t), which would work for a trip planned for 2020 if I didn't use the transferred points before then. I don't have a BA cc though so need to see when they would expire. Just seemed like a way to capitalize on the MR points not doing anything at this point.

I would not transfer to BA speculatively without checking to see what the award will cost you in taxes and fees on flights across the pond. I'm guessing by CHI you mean Chicago. If so, your flight to Dublin will cost you 49K Avios $492.25 RT in taxes and fees in economy, and 138K Avios plus $1,186.25 in taxes and fees in business on BA.

We have flown and will continue to fly BA to Europe but we generally try to do it with a travel together ticket so only one of us is using Avios for the flight and we use it for first class only. The taxes and fees cost the same in business as they do in first, so there isn't a point to going for a business class flight with a travel together ticket.

If you plan to use it on domestic short haul flights, then go for it.

So. Much. MR. Left. On. The. Table!

I think you advised me before about what to do when my Arrival + AF hits. I want to either drop to a no-AF card or cancel. I have 5000'ish points that are just sitting there. My AF should post next month. Is there a free card I can PC to? And then the Arrival + is churnable?

The Arrival+ used to be churnable, but who knows if Barclays has changed things since they relaunched the card.

Generally, the way to churn any Barclays cards is this: downgrade at 1 year when AF posts to no-AF option, put some spend on for about 6 months, and cancel the card. Reapply again in 6 months (so you'd be getting the card every 24 months).

There is a no-AF Arrival card. Barclays considers having cards in the same family to be the same product - meaning if you downgrade to the no-AF card, you cannot get another Arrival+. But, assuming the same churning rules still apply, you'd want to hold the no-AF Arrival for 6 months and put some spend on it, then close it, then wait another 6ish months and try to get the Arrival+. That's my plan.

I'll be doing this with the Wyndham soon. The AF is coming up in a few months.

Hmmm... our no fees Disney cards are 2 yrs old this month, this is tempting for our cruise...
Mine is over 2 years as well and the offer is tempting me to close and reopen...but since Ive had it since day 1...and it says DVC on it...I probably wouldn’t ...silly of me but oh well

The tiles came in handy this trip..had one in mine and DH luggage and golf bag traveling with my daughter and her husband...no tiles...used Magical Express...they delivered 6 of our 8 bags...

went to the bell hop since on the app it showed the luggage was at The Boardwalk.....they looked on the computer and tell me it’s at the airport....and I have to call SW.....o_O....I’m showing them..it’s within range of my phone so obviously in the storage room...after much back and forth they find the 2 suitcases.

Thank you for this info! Ugh. I downgraded to Arrival but still have it. Would like to get the arrival+. Might be worth using a */24 spot for P2 since he can’t get any sapphires now anyway...

I'm thinking of applying for the Arrival +. Would that be a big mistake? I'm currently 2/24.

I have:
Disney Visa (no AF) - just downgraded from the premier that I've had forever
CSR 1/18
JetBlue 1/18
SPG Biz 3/18
CIC 5/18
Biz Plat 7/18
Biz Green 8/18

I also plan on having DH refer me to the CIP at some point either later this year, or early next year. I'm still on the fence about whether or not I'll keep the CSR or PC it. I need to stay away from Amex for a while due to the pop-ups I've received.

At this point I'm focusing on our Disney park tickets for May which we will then bridge to DVC APs. Any advice is appreciated, as always!

So I still do not have the $300 Chase bonus in my checking account from doing a $25 transfer from my Fidelity account... wondering if I'm going to have to set up a direct deposit from my paycheck, which will be a real hassle.

I am shopping for new iPhones and a new service plan (UGH I’m hating it). I see sprint has a discount for “autopay.” Does anyone know if that can be set to charge my CC or does it have to be a bank account (possible deal breaker)? Anyone try Xfinity mobile or know of any other great deals? Of course I want to pay the bill with a CC but I remember reading that someone chose CIP over CIC but I don’t recall why.....

I think some people pay with the CIP because then it includes cell insurance, whereas the CIC does not.

So DH PC'd his Arrival+ a few months back and got a Barclay Rewards. I was a little frustrated because he didn't talk to me first, he just did it and I would have preferred he got an Arrival. Anyway, now that seems to be the better choice. Except I just realized that he never even activated the new card when it came let alone use it! Ugh. That could hurt his chances of getting approved for the Arrival+

In the mail today:

DH got the beagle tracker gift from AMEX
I got a Kroger cc offer
JK, more importantly I got my freedom letter, aka my employer contributions to my 401k are now MINE.

I don't think this has been properly celebrated yet - @amalone1013 can now leave her evil job if she wants to!!!!!!! That is so much better than any credit card news ever could be!

pixiedust::rockband:party:party:party::rockband:pixiedust:

Hope a new fantastic job comes your way soon.

Pretty sure that you need to do a real direct deposit for Chase. I've been thinking about doing it again (for DH this time) but the hassle of changing direct deposits has been holding me back. I don't think there is a minimum direct deposit, so maybe you could just divert part of your paycheck?

@amalone1013 You mentioned that your plan was to charge everything to your hotel at Universal and use your CSR travel credit. That is my plan as well so I was just wondering if that went alright, everything coded correctly and there weren't any surprises?

Also, did you get tickets via UR to upgrade at the parks? I can't remember if that was you or someone else. I am really looking for some good dps on that since we are hoping to do that in a few weeks!

Hope you had a great trip!
