Oh it's a Jolly Holiday with Masseys, a Pre Trip Report

Not sure if it’s the same in your neck of the woods but I always find the glow necklaces are cheap as chips just after Halloween is over so that might be a good time to snag a bargain :thumbsup2
Oh that's a good idea! We normally just go to the dollar store, but it's not exactly the most high end stuff, and half the time our glow stuff doesn't glow by the time we open it at the park. HAHA!

My sons used to love themed pjs when we did our evening meal at WDW Mostly Buzz or Woody. They were comfy and still felt dressed up as a character. I loved them because if they fell asleep on the way home from a park it was easy to slip them into bed without waking them :)
THIS IS THE GREATEST IDEA! We can just plan for morning baths.

Peter Pan! You can get cute pics with Peter Pan and Tinker Bell! And maybe the movie if he hasn't seen that one.
He's watched a little Peter Pan, but hasn't really gotten into it. Now we LOVE Jake and the Neverland Pirates. I saw where a father and son were Peter Pan and the shadow for Halloween and we loved that idea. Gia wants to be Tink and I could be Wendy. But I think he might like Captain Hook more than Peter. However, he saw his shadow the other day and legit told me he thought it was a ghost. I thought... oh, the irony.

I fell ya JP... I feel ya...
right?! same.

We haven’t had a Disney Store in Baton Rouge for many years now. Sad, I know.

You have no idea how much I miss our Disney Store! We've been deprived for years now.

When we finally got in the store, homeboy went nuts.

He was everywhere! And wanted everything. Here he is trying to carry as much as he can and still looking for more.

Disney Store.jpg

He was happy to sit with his new cars and watch Disney.

Disney Store 2.jpg

ALL went to go see THE LION KING that Sunday

It was so great to have everyone together. Danielle was with us too but she had worked that morning and did get a chance to dress cute so she took our group picture.

My parents are a little more structured. My dad, in particular, has low patience or tolerance for disobedience. HE HAS MELLOWED OUT SO MUCH OVER THE YEARS.

He is so much more mellow.

All-in-all I’m thankful for my Dad and his structure, and it was a good experience for both of them to test each others’ patience before learning the hard way in Disney LOL!

We have lots of time to practice before Disney.

The one thing that I found out on our last trip was that it's very time consuming. Much more so than I'd planned for. So, that was a bummer. But still a good thing, for sure.

We're going to doing things at a much slower pace on this trip. I think we'll save rider swap for those rides we just can't miss. I'm trying to get everyone to put together a list of must dos for each park.

We've planned a Dec. trip for NEXT year, so I'm looking forward to all your details!

I'm so excited for you! You have lots of time to plan.

My sons used to love themed pjs when we did our evening meal at WDW Mostly Buzz or Woody. They were comfy and still felt dressed up as a character. I loved them because if they fell asleep on the way home from a park it was easy to slip them into bed without waking them :)

We have taken this suggestion very seriously. We may have overdone the pjs a little.

I’m excited to see JP in all his character pjs. He’s getting so big but he’s still such a wee dote  Your trip is going to be here in no time especially when school starts up again. Bet you can’t wait 😊

I can't wait to see him in his Disney pjs too! He definitely has lots of personality. Time is beginning to speed up. Gia started the 4th grade on Wednesday. Danielle will start her junior year @ LSU in a few weeks. We're big LSU fans especially football so that will take up a lot of time. The restaurant that Dennis works out is right outside the gates of LSU so his business revolves around how busy LSU is. We also have some small trips planned for the fall so things are really starting to steamroll.

Planning update!

The thing about planning a trip so far in advance is that it gives you too much time to make changes. We can add plans, take away plans and change plans. I booked the package way back in December of 2018 for just Dennis, John Paul and me. Since then we added Danielle and Michelle. Originally we had 7 park ticket days at Pop in the standard pool area. I was really hoping for the 50s section. I've always wanted to stay in the Tramp or Lady building.
Lady.JPGTramp.JPG

I've already done the jukebox.

Jukebox.JPG

But when free dining was announced I just had to jump on that. It gave us the counter service dining for free so we paid the difference for the regular dining plan. We also got hopping included and now we're in the "preferred" section and we even saved money. So now I've had to rethink where I would like to stay and what we can add now that we can hop and have some more money to spend (you know that "fuzzy Disney math"). Can't just bank that savings.

So now we have some changes!

Current plans!

We're still flying in early Saturday morning. We'll be taking the Magical Express to Pop and hoping for a fast turnaround so we can hit DHS hopefully for some lunch @ Woody's Toy Box or if we're really lucky @ Ronto Roasters. If we're too hungry we'll just grab some lunch @ Pop before heading to the park. So do we take the Skyway or bus? We have an ADR for Mama Melrose's for diner but may cancel this. I have no idea what fast passes we're going to have and I really don't like thinking about how limited we will be on choices since they're moving so many rides to tier 1. I know Dennis and Danielle would like to do the Galaxy Edge rides but since we're coming in late and this is our first park day I don't expect much. I just really want to ride Slinky Dog Dash. I would also like to see Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM since we'll be doing Fantasmic later in the trip. Of course Danielle would like to see Fantasmic every chance she gets. We would like to at least walk through Galaxy Edge and I can't wait to see all the Christmas decoration all over the park. I'm planning on taking sooooo many pictures, just hope I follow through.

On Sunday we're headed to Epcot. Hopefully we'll make rope drop. I would like to get a fast pass for Test Track or Soarin' and will need to use rider swap, fingers crossed this works ok cause I'm really worried about how much time this will take. There really won't be much to do in Future World once they close everything down. I'm thinking we'll try to do Spaceship Earth and Seas with Nemo. I think JP would like Journey to Imagination and we all love Living with the Land. I'm looking forward to seeing the Christmas decorations here too. Dennis like to do Mission Space but no one else likes it. :crazy2: My priority once World Showcase opens is the holiday entertainment in the different countries and holiday kitchens. We might not even need to get lunch this day. We have a diner ADR @ Coral Reef for now but if the Space restaurant opens I would love to eat there. This is our only night @ Epcot so we would like to see the new night time show with the holiday tag. I'm thinking we're going to need a rest back at Pop this day for at least JP and I.

On Monday we have our first visit to the Magic Kingdom and our first sighting of the Castle this trip. :cloud9:. This is my FAVORITE park. Of course we're going to shoot for rope drop and will most likely need a break. No idea what fast passes yet, but I want to soak up the Christmas magic here. We have a lunch ADR @ the Skipper Canteen. This was one of the places Danielle really wanted to try. We have a diner ADR with the Beast. I can't wait to see JP's reaction to the Beast, right now he loves him but we'll see how he reacts when he sees him up close and person. I would like to see the castle lighting but we can also do this on our party night. We won't make plans to stake out a spot for HEA since we'll be doing that another night.

Tuesday we're back to Epcot for an early morning breakfast @ Akershus. JP has to see his princesses. I'm starting to stress about getting there in time. I'm waiting to see how the Skyway runs for timing. I know for now the buses are running early for this purpose but I think it would be neat to enter from the Skyway at International Gateway and walk over to Norway. But now that I think about it I would miss those empty park pictures in Future World but then again what is there going to be to see since they're closing so much? Empty World Showcase or empty Future World? We still have over 100 days to make that choice. Since we have the 8:05 adr @ Akershus we're planning on hitting Frozen as soon as we can. I would like to take JP to meet Elsa and Anna since he really likes Frozen. I would like to get a FP for either Test Track or Soarin' depending on which one we didn't get on Sunday. I don't plan on being here long since Michelle will be arriving around 11. We'll head out once I know she's on the Magical Express bus. I'll have to drag Dennis and Danielle out of the park, but we will all need a rest cause we're headed to MVMCP this night! Our first party experience and we're all excited. Originally we were going to shoot for entering @ 4 but now since we have hopping we can enter earlier if we want. Michelle already went over what we're thinking about for the party. I know we can't do it all but hopefully we'll see the castle lighting, castle show, parade, fireworks and snow on Main Street and get some Christmas snacks.

Wednesday is our only Animal Kingdom day and riding FOP is a goal for us. I hoping since it's later in our trip I will have some luck getting FPs. Dennis & Danielle want to rope drop but after the party I don't know. Michelle and JP have an adr for Tusker House for breakfast right before park opening so they will HAVE to get there early. JP really enjoyed this meal last year and I think this will be good for him to get some Mom only time after being away from her. Dennis wants to eat a meal in Pandora and we all want to see it at night lit up. I'm the only one who has seen it at night so far. I'm looking forward to seeing the Christmas decorations and the show on the Tree of Life. We won't be staying too late since we need to hop on back to MK because I booked us the After Fireworks Dessert Party with Plaza Garden Viewing! Michelle and I really enjoyed this last year and I can't wait to share it with Dennis & Danielle. One of the perks of having tickets with hoping and saving some money on our package.

Thursday is back to DHS for some Galaxy Edge fun.:darth: This will be a rope drop must day. Yesterday was a very busy day at work and I did not get a chance to read any Disney news until I was back home after 5. I missed the announcement that reservations for all things Galaxy Edge had opened. OMG! I got on the computer as quick as I could to see what was left. Luckily I was able to get Dennis the Savi's Workshop for 10:10. He's being saying he wants to do this but we'll see if he actually goes through with it. I did give him a Disney gift card for his birthday last week to go towards this. He can bring one person in with him so it will be Danielle. I tried to get an Oga's adr but nothing was showing available for our 2 days. I did not give up and tried early this morning. Guess what? I got an adr for 11 booked it then modified it to 3:00. We'll be enjoying a nice drink between lunch and diner, perfect timing right? We have a diner adr @ Minnie's Seasonal Dine w/Fantasmic package. :smickey: I'm really hoping we get to spend some time in Toy Story Land too. Hopefully we'll get a FP for at least one of the attractions in GE for Danielle and Dennis. I'm not interested in doing the rides since it sounds like they're motion type attractions and I don't do well on those. Danielle says Rise of the Resistance isn't but until I know more I'm not planning on trying to do it.

Friday is our last park day :(. We're back to MK and it's an Early entry day but also a party day so the park will be closing early. This will be the day to do the attractions we missed or just have to do again. We have a lunch adr at Be Our Guest. I'm really sorry Michelle won't be there for our diner but it will be great to see the Christmas decorations in there and be all together. We'll be leaving the park to head to Wilderness Lodge for diner @ Artist Point. We can't wait for Dennis to meet Grumpy. I'm looking forward to seeing the Christmas decoration here too. Now the rest of the night is up in the air. I want to head back to the monorail resorts to see the decorations. Danielle wants to go see Fantasmic again and Michelle might want to do the campfire @ Ft Wilderness.

Saturday is departure day.:sad2::sad1::sad: We're not flying out til late in the day so we're going to pack up and head to DS. We have a lunch @ TREX, Dennis' restaurant of choice. We'll have to let JP build a dino too. I'm hoping to see the Christmas tree trail and maybe get pictures with Santa. There is still so much in DS we haven't seen.

Still lots of time to plan more and make more changes. Any suggestions?

Your plans sound amazing. So much to see and do at Christmas time. I like the idea of seeing how all the resorts are decorated so maybe you could nip out through international gateway on an Epcot day (maybe the Sunday when you need a park break with JP) and visit the Yacht and Beach club to see their gingerbread carousels? There are some gorgeous places to relax in and around both resorts that don't require being a guest if JP fell asleep in his stroller that would save you going back to POP. The BC has the solarium with comfy sofas and you can bring a drink or snack in for yourself or the YC has some seating when you walk up the first flight of stairs from the main lobby that takes you away from all the hubbub. I do have to say that I've only ever been in June/July but these spots were definitely a quiet spot to escape to then. I'm not sure if that changes as Christmas approaches but it might be worth checking out :)

Yes, I completely agree! I keep reviewing our plans and wondering what I should add or change. I can't seem to just leave it alone

So do we take the Skyway or bus?

I am so excited about the Skyway! Hope it lives up to expectations.

since they're moving so many rides to tier 1.

Ugh, I know! Very frustrating. The FP situation just keeps getting worse. I preferred the days of paper fastpasses (though I'm guessing I'm in the minority on that!)

I know for now the buses are running early for this purpose but I think it would be neat to enter from the Skyway at International Gateway and walk over to Norway. I would go for the empty World Showcase - we stayed at the Beach Club for just a couple of days, years ago, and I thought it was really cool entering from the IG.

we need to hop on back to MK because I booked us the After Fireworks Dessert Party with Plaza Garden Viewing! Michelle and I really enjoyed this last year and I can't wait to share it with Dennis & Danielle.
Awesome!! I really think I'm going to book this for our last night in MK (12/23) - although I think I'll book the desserts before the fireworks. The show that night is at 10:00pm, and we have an early flight home on the 24th. I know it's pricey, but I think it will be really special at Christmastime :santa:

This is our first day in the parks! We're planning to hit SWGE at rope drop as well - I'm thinking the crowds will get heavier the closer we get to Christmas, so this will be our best day to try to get on the new ride. I was able to get an ADR for Oga's yesterday as well - at 11:40am. We're going to try to hop over to AK by mid-afternoon.

I may be wrong, but I don't think there are going to be FPs for the SWGE rides?? At least not for a while...

Danielle wants to go see Fantasmic again and Michelle might want to do the campfire @ Ft Wilderness.

I really wanted to eat at Artist Point, but the menu is a little limited, and a couple members of my party are picky eaters :sad2: But it looks so cool, I'm sure you'll love it! All of those evening plans sound great - I'd like to do a monorail resort/Christmas decoration tour too. In fact, I'd love to see all the Epcot resorts' decorations as well, but my boys tend to get bored with that - they enjoy park time more.

Still lots of time to plan more and make more changes. Any suggestions?

All of your plans sound fantastic! I think it's going to be such a beautiful time of year to be in the parks - I just hope they end up extending the park hours as we get closer. Then we can spend more time tweaking our plans to fit the new hours :rotfl2:

It's gotta be faster than the unpredictable buses, right???
Empty World Showcase or empty Future World?
Tough call... I'd say it depends what is still there in Future World. Getting a last chance to enjoy the fountain and get some pictures without a crowd would be worthwhile if they haven't started working on that part and have construction walls everywhere yet. Honestly don't know what the construction schedule is for all that work. If the walls are up and construction's going on, World Showcase.

Can't do it all, but I think you have your priorities right. I just hope that they don't "oversell" it an control the crowds a bit better this year than they did last year so that you guys can really enjoy as much as possible. Our problem doing MVMCP in the past has been that with kids in tow, we've never made it to the end.
One of the perks of having tickets with hoping and saving some money on our package.
::yes::
Thursday is back to DHS for some Galaxy Edge fun.:darth: This will be a rope drop must day.
Correction... this will be a PRE-rope drop must day. :lmao:

I will admit that I skimmed the plans (I always do. I like to read about what people did) so can't be of much help to you.
But... it was a long list so I'm sure you've got tons of great things lined up.

I like the idea of seeing how all the resorts are decorated so maybe you could nip out through international gateway on an Epcot day (maybe the Sunday when you need a park break with JP) and visit the Yacht and Beach club to see their gingerbread carousels? Yes, I completely agree! I keep reviewing our plans and wondering what I should add or change. I can't seem to just leave it alone

Me either!

I am so excited about the Skyway! Hope it lives up to expectations.

I do too. I really hope it's a faster way to get to those 2 parks.

Ugh, I know! Very frustrating. The FP situation just keeps getting worse. I preferred the days of paper fastpasses (though I'm guessing I'm in the minority on that!)

 Me too. I was the fast pass runner. You were rewarded for hitting the parks at rope drop.

I would go for the empty World Showcase - we stayed at the Beach Club for just a couple of days, years ago, and I thought it was really cool entering from the IG.

Since I've never entered through IG I really want to try it.

I was able to get an ADR for Oga's yesterday as well - at 11:40am. We're going to try to hop over to AK by mid-afternoon.

Maybe we'll see you in SWGE. I do think the crowds will only be growing from that point on. Have fun!

I may be wrong, but I don't think there are going to be FPs for the SWGE rides?? At least not for a while...

I think you're right. I forgot about reading that. We'll be with the masses trying to get in at rope drop. I hope they do the EMH for resort guests. It can't be any worse than opening day of Pandora, which we did. We were on a bus for 4:45 and yes we did both rides.

We're in MK this day too - great minds :-) From what I hear, MK party days are the best days to visit the park, since most people will choose another park due to the early closing. I was thinking we had BOG lunch ressies too, but they're on Sunday. This day we have lunch at Liberty Tree.

Notice I didn't mention Dennis doing any of the extras with us, it is working in my favor to have daughters. I've heard Fantasmic is better at DL too. Enjoy your trip.

All of your plans sound fantastic! I think it's going to be such a beautiful time of year to be in the parks - I just hope they end up extending the park hours as we get closer. Then we can spend more time tweaking our plans to fit the new hours :rotfl2:

I'm hoping the extend hours too. I would like to have some time to take break and come back to the parks.

Funny how it seems to always work that way.

:thumbsup2

SKYWAY!!!!!

I have a feeling we'll be hitting the SKYWAY to get to DHS on arrival day.

It's gotta be faster than the unpredictable buses, right???

I'm hoping it's faster I'm just wondering what time they will start running it?

Tough call... I'd say it depends what is still there in Future World. Getting a last chance to enjoy the fountain and get some pictures without a crowd would be worthwhile if they haven't started working on that part and have construction walls everywhere yet. Honestly don't know what the construction schedule is for all that work. If the walls are up and construction's going on, World Showcase.

I love empty pictures with the fountains but my concern it everything will be covered up with construction walls.

Can't do it all, but I think you have your priorities right. I just hope that they don't "oversell" it an control the crowds a bit better this year than they did last year so that you guys can really enjoy as much as possible. Our problem doing MVMCP in the past has been that with kids in tow, we've never made it to the end.

I'm hoping it won't be a sale out since it's a Tuesday. I do not expect to make it to the end at all.

Correction... this will be a PRE-rope drop must day. :lmao:

Yes it will. We did the opening day of Pandora so we can do this.

That's great!

I'm pretty proud of myself.

My favorite resort. And you will not be disappointed with the Christmas decorations there!!!

My dread is to stay here someday. I can't wait to see the decorations. I think Michelle may be throwing some coins in fountain here too.

 Ain't that the truth!

You too?

Nice! Glad that worked out so well. :)

I'm glad too. I hate when I have to pay full price for a trip.

I will admit that I skimmed the plans (I always do. I like to read about what people did) so can't be of much help to you.
But... it was a long list so I'm sure you've got tons of great things lined up.

Thanks for the confidence.

Oh yes. I just changed one plan yesterday.
I'm glad too. I hate when I have to pay full price for a trip.
And yet... we do anyways ;)
Thanks for the confidence.
Yeah, and then you probably wrote "We're not going to bother with FPs or ADRs and just wing it. And we're going to sleep in each day and get to the parks whenever we get there. We plan on riding FoP 4-5 times before walking over to DHS and riding Smuggler's Run a few times."

Disney math works every time!
We have a diner ADR @ Coral Reef for now but if the Space restaurant opens I would love to eat there

I can't wait to try that one!!

Nice!! I got mine too, but for 6:00. We are eating at Prime Time at 4:00, so ours will be after dinner drinks. Whatever works, right? LOL!

Danielle wants to go see Fantasmic again and Michelle might want to do the campfire @ Ft Wilderness.
The campfire is a fun one for little ones. We've done it several times and the kiddos loved it.

Oh yes. I just changed one plan yesterday.

:thumbsup2 I hope for the better.

And yet... we do anyways ;)

Not very often. I think I've gotten a discount on every trip but one.

Yeah, and then you probably wrote "We're not going to bother with FPs or ADRs and just wing it. And we're going to sleep in each day and get to the parks whenever we get there. We plan on riding FoP 4-5 times before walking over to DHS and riding Smuggler's Run a few times."

I hope you know me better than that.

Changing plans is half the fun :earboy2: . I can't wait to see how it all goes!
