Thanksgiving Foods You Dislike

Honestly, I really dislike most Thanksgiving foods. I like mashed potatoes and gravy, some stuffings, cranberry sauce, and a couple types of rolls but that's about it. I really dislike turkey, but thankfully we aren't doing any of that this year as it is one of the few upsides to my husband having back surgery last month that we are doing a tiki restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner!

Green bean casserole
Turnips
Sweet potatoes with the marshmallow topping
Yams
I forgot to add pumpkin pie,,I can't stand the smell or taste of it!

I'm right there with you on this. My top list of Thanksgiving foods I don't like:

  • any sort of yam or sweet potato dish
  • butternut squash
  • anything with turnips in it
  • this disgusting pearl onion thing my mom would make every Thanksgiving. Gag me with a spoon!
  • green bean casserole in any form
  • pumpkin pie
  • homemade cranberry sauce. Give me the fake jellied stuff in the can!
  • this disgusting thing my MIL used to make (she retired from making it, thank goodness) that she calls "cranberry relish." It's in a Jello mold sort of format. But it has the following ingredients suspended in it: walnuts, almonds, celery, grapes, carrots, and uncooked bits of fresh cranberry. It's like nuts and twigs suspended in cranberry jello. MIL was the only one who used to eat it. LOL

I don't like drumsticks, but pretty much everything else Thanksgiving I love. I hate when my mom used to but the turkey giblets in the gravy. Gross! She's not allowed to make gravy anymore.

I love Thanksgiving dinner. It’s one meal I look forward to all year. I love the turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed or sweet potatoes (no sweet toppings though). I love apple, sweet and pumpkin pie. I make homemade turkey bone stock afterward and soup the next day.

I’m not crazy about the bean and onion casserole, but my husband loves it- so I make some for him to enjoy. I have tried a ‘healthy’ version of it and it was gross, so the regular Campbells mushroom soup version it is. I guess once a year is ok.

I sometimes make a root veggie mix- - turnips, carrots, sweet potatoes, rutabaga, raisins, honey, and lemon. We love it.

We have been doing actual Thanksgiving dinner someplace else the last several years, so we make our Thanksgiving dinner sometime in November or December.

Sweet potatoes or yams or winter squash of any kind, or pumpkin. YUCK!
green bean casserole (really any veggie on Thanksgiving is a waste of stomach space)
salad of any kind
I don’t like alcohol, so no wines or other adult beverages

just give me my turkey, stuffing, potatoes and gravy and I am happy.

Sweet potatoes and/or yams of any kind but especially with sickenly sweet syrup and marshmallows.

Green bean casserole and no, I won’t like your version either. I do not understand the appeal of dumping cream of whatever soup on perfectly lovely green beans.

Creamed veggies.

Ham with pineapple and/or a sweet glaze on it. In general any kind of meat with fruit/glaze on it.

Mystery jello salads or fruit salads made with cottage cheese like toppings.

Mincemeat and Pecan Pies.

There might be some items I give precious dish space to over others, but so far I am not coming up with any that I truly dislike. I’ll have to keep reading to see if someone else lists one that I have forgotten about!

I'm not overly fond of turkey unless it is well done, I like it DRY.

I don't really like my brother's homemade orange/cranberry sauce either. It is so sour.

But I DETEST this tomato juice, butter and onion gravy my husband's family makes for their turkey. The onions are semi cooked and the whole thing is just gross.

There are dishes I like more than others but the only thing I pass down without a single spoonful is anything cranberry.
